Term 2 ‘Learning for the Future ‘ 1st July 2015 Dear Parents & Caregivers, Tena koutou katoa On behalf of the staff I would like to say a big thank you for your support over Term 2, especially the assistance you have given us in classroom programmes, Home & School fundraising, and school trips. Our school cannot survive without your support, and we value your ideas, input and contribution. Just a reminder that Term 2 finishes this Friday at 3pm and Term 3 starts on Monday 20 th July. Staff Farewell Mrs. Rachael Henare will be on maternity leave from the end of this term and we wish Rachael and her family all the best for the birth of their new baby in the coming weeks. For those of you that don’t already know, Rachael is our specialist teacher who works across the school supporting students who need an extra boost with their literacy learning. This is a key role in our school and one, which Rachael does with dedication and hard work. We will miss your enthusiasm, passion and professionalism in assisting our students to achieve to their potential. Stepping in to this role in Rachael’s absence will be Mrs. Ann McRae. Ann takes over at the beginning of Term 3, and we are very lucky to have her skills and expertise to continue the great work Rachael has been doing. Welcome to the Kamo Primary School team Ann. School Reports and Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews Thank you to the large number of parents who have booked and attended our mid year interviews for 2015. It’s pleasing to see so many of you making the time to come in and discuss your child’s learning and progress. It’s also a really important time to review the goal setting that was done earlier in the year and formulate new goals based on current levels of achievement. After feedback from the reporting to parents survey done earlier in the year, a revised school report was introduced at these interviews, and we hope you like the layout and the information it provides you? If you have any feedback about the report please pass this on to either your child’s teacher or myself. We really appreciate your feedback and want to provide you with information about your child/ children that makes sense and is informative about their learning. Feedback can also be sent to [email protected] Children Arriving Late to School We have been noticing that more and more children are arriving late to school in the mornings, sometimes up to 15-20 minutes late, which is unacceptable. We understand that in some circumstances, which are often unavoidable, children may be late, but in many instances, students are regularly late with no apparent reason. This is not only disruptive to the child who is late, but to the entire class. We ask parents and caregivers to be more vigilant in ensuring that your children arrive prior to the 8.55am bell, thank you. If your child is late to school for any reason they must report to the office for a late pass. And the final word goes to the staff at KPS… A big thank you to all of you for your hard work this term, especially writing reports, meeting parents, and planning outstanding learning experiences for our tamariki. You are an amazing group of people to work with and your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata! What is the most important thing in the world? Starship Mobile Phone Schools Campaign

Three Good Reasons to Support This Campaign!

• Phones collected help raise funds to keep the Starship National Air Ambulance Service flying.

• Phones collected are counted towards our schools chosen rewards from the Starship Mobile Phone Schools Campaign i.e. cameras, sports packs, i-pads and book vouchers.

• Campaign helps to ensure NZ landfills are free of an array of hazardous toxic substances.

In just five years the Starship Mobile Phone Appeal has raised close to two and half million dollars to keep the Starship National Air Ambulance Service flying. Schools have participated by collecting unwanted mobile phones and swapping them for a wide range of rewards whilst at the same time raising funds for this worthy cause.

The campaign works like this: Most of us have old mobile phones lying around at home somewhere. We ask that each family in our school come on board and donate any unwanted old mobile phones.

Not only does every phone count towards our school’s preferred reward but they also help fund the Starship National Air Ambulance whilst also serving as a valuable recycling initiative.

Please drop phones in the collection box in the school office.

Me and my family are very clever at conservation. It is because we always look out for saplings. They are small. We can’t say

sorry when we stand on them. Because they are very little and forest litter is for the bugs.

They make the forest litter into soil.Olivia Parker Room 19
