Social Change Model of Leadership Development (HERI 1996)
Created in 1996 for undergraduate college students by Helen and Alexander Astin through the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California aims to integrate already established leadership development concepts
bull Leadership as a purposeful collaborative values-basedprocess resulting in positive social change and social responsibility
bull ldquoLeader is anyone who is willing to work with other people to make a difference
bull Collaboration means trust and common goalsbull Group members act in consistence with their own

The CommunitySociety How does positive change in the Community stimulate group and individual development

bull Consciousness of self - developing awareness of own values attitudes and emotions motivating us to take action
bull Commitment -the psychical power and energy making the individual to serve the group and to contribute for the collective effort and outcome
bull Congruence - thinking feeling and behaving in a consistent and honest way towards others
bull Collaboration - to put common effort and to work effectively with other team members
bull Common Purpose - sharing aims and values and working for a grouprsquos purpose
bull Controversy with Civility ndash understanding that differences in viewpoint are natural and that a difference must be dealt with civility ndash respect and listening
bull Citizenship - understanding that members of communities are not independent but interdependent and individuals and groupshave responsibility for the common welfare

The Young Leaders Academy - EU experts from the project act as trainers and lecturers at the Academy

International Youth Festival Europe meets Africa at VUM
Through laughter and joy the students made many martenitsa bracelets out of white and red thread which were given away for charity

International Football Academy and the football team of FC Inter formed with international student players
Bulgarian and international students combine learning English in Dobrich with leisure time at Albena beach in summer
