Máximo Nivel is a family‐owned social enterprise dedicated to providing intercultural experiences, education, and opportunities for international work/study. Programs include our TEFL/TESOL Certification program, Native Spanish Program, Study Abroad, and International Volunteering & Service Learning.

Our TEFL/TESOL Certification program offers an intensive, university level program that professionally certifies you to teach English anywhere in the world. We are an internationally accredited institute and our TEFL/TESOL credentials are accepted all over the world.

Máximo Nivel was founded as a small, high‐quality language center in 2003. From our roots as a Spanish/English school in Cusco, Peru, we've grown our education programs and our client service model across 3 countries in Latin America. Today, we host more than 3,000 international clients, teachers, students, and volunteers every year.

Costa Rica literally means “the rich coast,” and it is indeed a tropical paradise. Pristine rainforests lead to white sand beaches and the "pura vida" (pure life) pace of life is relaxed. Costa Rica is a great place to begin your adventure.

Guatemala is known for its Mayan roots and vibrant culture. Timeless architecture, archeological ruins, and volcanoes loom overhead. The Mayan ruins of Tikal, Lake Atitilan, and the Pacific coast beaches are all must see places!

Peru was the center of the Inca civilization. Here, the Amazon River runs through the jungle, while the peaks of the Andes are covered in snow, and to the north there are beautiful beaches on the Pacific coast.

TEFL/TESOL PROGRAM OPTIONS

Teaching English internationally is a life‐changing experience and is an excellent way to build international credentials on your professional résumé/CV.

We put a lot into our TEFL/TESOL Certification program—making it fun, intense, and one of the best learning experiences of your life!

4 WEEK ONSITE/150 HOURSThis fun, intensive course is our flagship TEFL/TESOL program. The certification course is 4 weeks long, covering 150 hours of in‐class lecture and group work, independent study, and practical teaching.

ACCELERATED‐HYBRID The Accelerated‐Hybrid program combines components from the onsite and online programs. Participants self‐study the first half of the course with a tutor via email and 7 hours of included tutoring via Skype, then they join the regular onsite program for the final 2 weeks including the practical teaching module.

ONLINE ONLYThis is not your ordinary online TEFL program! With Máximo's online option, not only do you get all the theory, but you get to discuss and talk about it with your trainer via 15 hours of included tutoring via Skype. And most importantly, you teach six 1‐hour lessons with a live English student.

SPECIAL ADD‐ON CERTIFICATIONSWe offer two very unique add‐on programs: Certification in Teaching Business English and Certification in International Exam Preparation. These add‐on courses are for people who have completed a regular TEFL Certification and are looking to specialize in specific areas of ESL.

In the Certification in Teaching Business English program, participants learn to extend ESL theory and methodology to teach business specific English to executives, business people, and MBA students. Course modules include: Needs Assessment, Course Programming, Materials Creation, Task‐based Learning (TBL), and Running Simulations.

In the Certification in International Exam Preparation, participants learn how to coach and prepare ESL learners to successfully pass exams like the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, and Cambridge exams. Course modules include: Needs Assessment, Course Programming, Exam Structure, Exam Strategies, and Application of Strategies.

NATIVE SPANISH PROGRAMWe offer optional Spanish language classes in either general Spanish or specialized classes in Spanish for Business and Medical Spanish. Most people study 2 hours/day or 4 hours/day and you can choose from small group or private classes. As part of our Spanish immersion courses, we also offer our free Tandem Conversation Program—a conversation exchange program, where we match you with a native Spanish speaker for conversation practice.

VOLUNTEER/SERVICE LEARNINGGive back to the local community while immersing yourself even more deeply into the local culture and language. Máximo offers excellent international volunteer and service learning programs in

orphanage/childcare, conservation, construction, teaching, and medical/healthcare projects.

STUDY ABROADThrough our partnerships with universities and other educational organizations, you can take part in university level courses in Culture, Business, and Sustainability & Peace. These are available as individual classes or as full‐time Fall and Spring semester programs, as well as concentrated Summer and Winter semester options.

We also offer our special BridgeLevel programs throughout the year. These include Social Enterprise Startup, International Entrepreneurship, and our Bridge to Business Program.

TEFL TRAINERSOur TEFL instructors and teacher‐trainers are highly qualified ESL professionals with Masters degrees and years of experience teaching ESL and training ESL teachers. Our TEFL Trainers have all been teaching for a minimum of 5 years and have experience teaching English in multiple countries around the world. They work hard to make the course fun, dynamic, and intensive!

TEACHING METHODOLOGYThe program uses a variety of instructional methods including lecture, group work, and outside reading. The curriculum and the trainers place heavy emphasis on practical teaching and you will begin teaching and practicing the methodologies and techniques right from the first week of the course!

FACILITIESWe pride ourselves on offering a great home‐base. We think it's important you have a place to call home, a place to study, and a place to meet up with friends and to make new ones. Our centers range in size from 13 to 20 classrooms all furnished and outfitted for your comfort. Every location provides modern computer lounges, high‐speed internet, and office‐wide WiFi 7 days/week. We also have a great snack bar where the coffee and tea are always free.

BOOKS & MATERIALSThere are 3 required books. You can pre‐purchase your books before arriving or buy the books at Máximo. 1) How to Teach English, by Jeremy Harmer; 2) Understanding & Using English Grammar, by Betty Schrampfer Azar; 3) TEFL/TESOL Certification Manual (available only at Máximo Nivel).

CLASSESTEFL/TESOL Certification courses are offered every month except December. Classes are held Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. There is significant group work, lesson preparation, reading, and report writing that will be done outside of regular class time. The final week, during “practical teaching week” is especially busy.

CLIENT/TRAINEE PROFILESParticipants in our TEFL/TESOL Certification program range from 20 years old to 70 years old. Most are young professionals looking to teach, travel, and gain international work experience. Many choose to teach in Latin America while others move to Asia, Europe,

and even Africa for teaching work; still others teach back in their home‐country.

LIFETIME JOB FINDING ASSISTANCEUltimately, finding and getting a teaching job depends on the effort and professionalism that TEFLers put into their job search. Máximo Nivel does not guarantee work. That said, TEFLers who approach their job search professionally will generally have job offers within 1 to 30 days of finishing the program.

Our lifetime job finding assistance includes: ‐ Resume/CV workshop‐ Referrals to language institutes, ESL job websites,

and ESL headhunters ‐ Reference letter at the end of the TEFL course and

PROFESSIONAL STAFF Our team is a unique blend of ex‐pats and local professionals. The Máximo team is fully bi‐lingual and we come from a wide variety of backgrounds including business, education, social work, medicine, and anthropology. We all live locally in each country and are intimately familiar with the culture. The Máximo center is open 7 days/week and our staff is available 24/7.

All of our intercultural centers have an onsite travel partner so you can book additional tours, travel, and transportation independently.

ACCOMODATIONSA number of accommodation options are available. Many people like to stay in a with a local host family. Shared and private rooms are available, but private baths are available on a very limited basis. In Peru only, we offer a special guesthouse option called The Family Place. This is a similar to a family‐stay, but offers more independence in terms of schedules and meal times, and you're housed with 10 to 15 other international students.

We also offer private, furnished apartments with internet. Shared apartments are available on a limited basis.

Hotels and hostels are also available and can include a private or shared room.

TRANSPORTATIONThe nice thing about San Jose, Costa Rica; Antigua, Guatemala; and Cusco, Peru is they're all great walking cities. In the areas where our intercultural centers are located, it's very easy to make your way around on foot. There are also taxis and buses which are inexpensive and very accessible.

AIRPORT PICK‐UPDon't worry—we'll be there! Our professional drivers will meet you outside of baggage claim as you exit the airport. When you're picked up at the airport, you will receive a Welcome Folder detailing your accommodations, orientation time, and our Emergency contact numbers. Airport pick‐up is included in all of our programs. Please note that your return trip to the airport is not included.

STARTING DATESTEFL/TESOL programs are offered 11 months per year‐‐January through November. Classes begin in the 3rd week of each month, but dates vary slightly. Please email us at international@maximonivel.com for a list of speific TEFL course dates.

HOLIDAYSOur intercultural centers are open 7 days/week year‐round. The centers are closed to the public only on 25 December and 1 January. This ensures you always have a great home‐base at Máximo! Note that holidays do not apply to the TEFL/TESOL Certification program and classes are held Monday‐Friday regardless of holidays.
