1 ... who are we?

Teensoul magazine is the quarterly sister publication of colosoul magazine. They are two of the five publications part of the Colosoul Group Inc. Teensoul covers a range of topics, from social issues and life skills, to music, games and fashion. Very few publications exist within Australia that are truly in touch with teenagers. Teensoul is run by teenagers, with professional guidance and support, so our readers know that they are being spoken to by their own demographic.

Teensoul is designed by and for youths, who are given the opportunity to excel in the media and arts industries by producing a professional and innovative magazine. Teensoul is a unique venture - branched from successful Colosoul magazine (www.colosoul.com.au) - with its own style and creativity.

Teensoul is a free magazine. 2000 print copies every 3 months, and are distributed to the metropolitan and South to Margaret River.

teensoul believes in local community and overseas aid work. The Arts can bring a very loud voice by helping bring awareness about social and environmental issues, and Teensoul stands by this. We also believe youth have a very loud voice and its a great way for them to be able to express themselves creatively in a positive environment.

We encourage the youth to utilise their skills. We do this through the various events we hold to showcase their talents, and to collaborate with others, whilst advocating for good causes.

“Before I began organising the shoot, my photographer and I brainstormed ideas about what is happening in teenagers’ lives and what we at the magazine

feel is important for this next issue. We decided that Leavers was a great place to start with many year 12s finishing their exams and high school experience.

Taking in the current fashion trends and this idea of going away with friends to celebrate finishing school, we went for a road-trip theme with loose, bohemian, 70s fashions which are comfortable for travel. This includes maxi skirts and dresses, jeans, t-shirts and crop tops.

I then sorted the cooperation of online retailers and boutiques in Perth regarding their assistance with providing clothing for the shoot. Two boutiques we felt fit best were Beleza Boutique and Ruck Rover General Store.

Having the clothes, I hired models based on the size of the clothing acquired. My next step was to put out advertisements for hair and make-up artists interested in collaborating with me and the magazine.

Lastly, I hired an assistant to help me with the behind the scenes jobs such as ironing the apparel and the models clothing changes.”
