Teens charged with assault after post hockey game fight inWatertown

WATERTOWN —A post hockey game altercation resulted in a Watertown teenager being hit in the head with
a baseball bat and another teen punching a police officer in the face outside the John A. RyanSkating Arena on Wednesday.
According to Watertown police, the fight escalated following a hockey game betweenWatertown and Cambridge Rindge and Latin on Dec. 29.
Police were dispatched to skating rink that night to assist with post-game traffic.Lieutenant Michael Lawn told the Watertown TAB & Press that officers watched Peter
Vasconcelos, 17, of 503 Medford St. in Malden, get out of a truck with a baseball bat and hitan 18-year-old Watertown man in the back of the head.
Police reportedly ordered Vasconcelos to drop the bat and held him back when he failed tofollow orders. During Vasconcelos’ apprehension, Tyler Bartley, 17, of 33 Robbins Road ranover to help a friend during the fight and reportedly punched a Watertown police officer inthe face.
Lawn said Bartley immediately apologized to the officer who was hit.According to TAB & Press sports correspondent Frank Santarpio, the fight originally
occurred in the stands and spilled into the street, but was unrelated to anything that happenedon the ice during the game.
Watertown boys ice hockey coach John Campbell said he didn’t see the fight, but heardabout it when police arrived. None of the team’s players were involved.
“From my understanding, after the game everyone was emptying out the arena. I don’tknow the specifics of it but I’m sure words were exchanged, a couple of kids were involved,baseball bats were involved; someone got hit in the head,” he said.
Vasconcelos was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weaponand disorderly conduct.
Bartley was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer and disorderlyconduct.
The 18-year-old Watertown man suffered minor injuries and has been summonsed toWaltham District Court for disorderly conduct. Police did not release his name since he wasnot charged with a crime.
