2. PATTERNS.
a. Master Patterns. The DC IPT at Caversfield holds a Master Pattern for this product.Potential contractors may view the pattern on site by arrangement with the DC IPTCommercial Department.
b. Standard Patterns. A Standard Pattern may be obtained from the DC IPT TechnicalInformation Office and may be used to provide the criteria for all materials, componentsand manufacturing features not fully defined in this specification.
c. Painting A copy of the official approved water-colour paintings, supplied by theCollege of Arms, are obtainable from the DC-IPT and are to be used to provide thecriteria for the detailed design for colours.

PART 2
3. PRODUCT DESIGN
a. Product Description.
i. Queens Colour. An embroidered and appliqued design on a union flag background. Allelements of the embroidery and applique are to strictly match in colours and materials to theStandard Pattern 103C. The design is to follow the copy of the official approved water-colourpainting supplied by the College of Arms that is to be obtained from the DC-IPT.
i. Regimental Colour. An embroidered and appliquéd design on a midnight bluebackground. All elements of the embroidery and appliqué are to strictly match in colours andmaterials to the Standard Pattern 103C. The design is to follow the copy of the officialapproved watercolour painting supplied by the College of Arms that is to be obtained fromthe DC-IPT.
ii. Lion and Crown Mount Cast brass, Electro Gold plated
iii. Cords and Tassels Gold wire and crimson flecked cord with a gold and crimson fringedtassel on each end, fitted with a gold and crimson slider.
iv. Pike. One piece pike fitted with a brass shoe at the base and a brass ferrule with twobrass rings at the top to secure the cord.
v. Belt. White Buff leather carrying belt with gilded metal fittings to comply with PatternNo.1249, Nato stock No. 8345-99-973-3226
vi. Leather cover Black long grain hide leather with polished brass cone to comply withNato stock No. 8345-99-125-0989
vii. Box Wooden Box for transporting finished stand of colours, measuring:274.5cms. x 15cms. x 15cms. (9' x 6'' x 6'') internal measurements. Nailed constructionwith removable lid

5.8 Padding, Roses • 4 ply knitting yarn 100% acrylic colour any pale pink.

6.1 Lion and CrownMount
• Pressed, cast brass, Electro Gold plated and polished.
• 24 Carat Gold with Cobalt, 5 microns thick.

6.2 Cords and tassels • 6mm Gold wire and crimson silk flecked cord with crimsonand gold fringed tassel on each end. Fitted with a gold andcrimson slider.
• Pattern No. 22243, NATO Stock Number 8345-99-977-8814
• The tassel body is constructed from a wooden mould coveredin Cloth, Silk, Super lute, Crimson. Pattern No. 8292U,NATO stock Number 8305-99-973-0919, and netted withgold twist.
• All gold materials to comply with the requirements ofUK/SC/3933.
6.3 Wood for pike • European Ash (Fraxinus Excelsior) or Ramin (Gonystylus-spp), seasoned, of uniform colour, straight grained, free fromknots, worm holes and other imperfections. Pattern No.20164, Nato stock No. 8345-99-122-9124
• Colour stained Dark Brown to match the current regimentalpike.
6.4 Ferrule for pike • Polished Brass ferrule with two fixed and two loose rings totake cord and tassel. Threaded 3/8'' BSW hole to fit screwend of lion and crown mount. See figure 11.
6.5 Shoe for pike • Polished Brass shoe to fit bottom of pike. Screw throughcentre to fix to pole. See figure 11.
6.6 Belt • Belt, White buff leather with gilded metal fittings to complywith Pattern No. 12

6.7 Leather for case • Black long grain hide leather with polished brass cone. Tocomply with Nato.stock No.8345-99-125-0989 colour caseinfantry regiment. To comply with the requirements of Table13.

7.3 Fitting up. • A small hole is cut in the top left corner of the colour with a clearanceof approximately 25mm from the heading and top edge of the colour.
• The area around the hole is strengthened with a two patches of canvascovered in Cloth silk Super lute, crimsonPattern No. 8292U, Nato Stock No. 8305-99-973-0919
• The hole is further reinforced with a hand sewn grommet and a giltmetal two part threaded eyelet of 16mm internal diameter inserted . Tomatch Standard Pattern 103C.
7.4 Design • Cloth, Silk, Super lute , Crimson, Blue and WhitePattern No.8292U, Nato stock No.8305-99-973-0919, CrimsonPattern No.8292R, Nato stock No.8305-99-973-0916, BluePattern No.8292A, Nato stock No.8305-99-973-0931, White
• In the centre is a crimson circle bearing the battalion number IV.surrounded by the Regimental title.
• The crimson centres (see figure 4 )are worked off the Colour andappliqued to back and front.
• A St Edwards Crown (figure 4 ) completely worked through surmountsthe centre.
• Ten pairs of Battle Honour Scrolls (see figure 3 ) are worked off theColour and appliqued on, to read correct from both sides.
• The whole design is to be placed symmetrically and centrally on thebackground fabric.

• The crimson centres are worked off the Colour and appliquéd to backand front.
• A St Edwards Crown ( figure 4) completely worked through surmountsthe wreath and centre.
• All elements of floral wreath and crown are worked right through thecolour.
• A motto scroll worded '' UTRINQUE PARATUS '' ( see figure 5 ) isborne across the bottom of the floral wreath.
• One pair of Battle Honour Scrolls worded " FALKLAND ISLANDS1982 " (see figure 6 ) is borne centrally beneath the floral wreath. BattleHonour Scrolls are worked off the colour and appliquéd on, to readcorrect from both sides.

8.5 Designcontinued • The battalion number four in Roman Numerals is embroidered in gold
wire, positioned in the top left corner from the front below the cornerbadge, one set of numerals is added to each side of colour to allownumerals to read correct from both sides.

• It is a detachable item, screwed into the top of the pike.
• Length of screw 20mm below base on crown.
• Bottom of the Lion and Crown Mount to be marked with theContractors name.
• 152mm high from base of the crown to the tip of the Lions crown.

11.1 Pike • One piece pike.
• The pike is to be sanded after turning, stained Dark Brown in colour andpolished to match finish on standard pattern.
• The pike is fitted with a polished brass shoe at the base and a polishedbrass ferrule with two brass rings at the top which secure the cord.
• The ferrule has an internal thread measuring 3/8'' British StandardWhitworth of sufficient length to accommodate the 20mm long threadon base of crown.

15.1 Assembly,Storage andTransportation
• The colour, Pike, Lion and Crown Mount, Cords and Tassels should beassembled for use.
• The tassels on the cords should be wrapped in sulphur free paper (DefStan 81-89), care being taken that the cord is not twisted in thewrapping process.
• Sulphur free paper should be placed over the colour near the pike andunderneath the cord and tassels. This should be turned up andaccommodated within the depth of the colour.
• The colour should then be rolled with, layers of sulphur free paperinterleaved between the layers.
• The Lion and Crown Mount in place on top of the colour should becovered in a protective packaging to ensure freedom from damageduring transportation.
• The pike and colour should be covered in a protective leather cover.
• The pike below the leather cover should be covered in a woollen sleeve.
15.2 HandlingInstructions
• A statement is to be printed onto a label and adhered to the inside of thebox lid. Refer to Table 16 for statement.

HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS FOR
COLOURS, STANDARDS AND GUIDONS
Colours, Standards and Guidons are vulnerable items and require carefulhandling at all times. On no account are these items to be laundered ordry cleaned.
If an item becomes excessively soiled or marked consult with themanufacturer before attempting to clean.
Under no conditions are Colours, Standards, or Guidons to be packedaway or rolled when wet. Should any of these items become wet they areto be dried carefully and thoroughly by being hung in a warm area andleft to dry naturally. Never apply direct heat in an attempt to force dry. Inhot and humid climates these items should be frequently aired and storedin a cool place. Ideally, when not in use on parade, they should bewrapped in sulphur-free paper and stored in the container in which theyare issued.
