•Multi Cad environment
•Challenges:
• 1) Paperless organization
• 2) Intuitive user interface
• 3) System performance
Introduction
Two parent companies with subsidiaries,
one quality standard:
about 20 yachts,
average length 80m,
2000 employees
Product characterization
•Automotive & Aerospace versus Custom build mega yachts
•Series with configurations versus Uniquity
• Same:
• Standard process,
• Just in time logistics,
• Scientific knowledge and technology.
• Different:
• Highly customized, no series
• Short lead time to production
• Huge amount of (Cad) data
• Not everything determined, Craftsmanship

Lessons learned
Multi disciplinary System Engineering Process
Process: collaboration is key
•6 different Cad tools, not all integrated with Teamcenter
•8 different engineering companies per project
•6 different disciplines
•Short lead times: design & production simultaneously
•Lessons learned feedback
•Integral decisions
•Automotive: perfect 3D model, re-use knowledge, undisturbed data flow
•Mega yacht industry: good overview of status & maturities
One actual 3D model is solution: PLM
Road map
1. One 3D model (viewing Multi Cad)
2. Attributes and properties
3. Status management
4. Improve viewer functionality and performance
5. Interface with ERP

Outlook I: paperless approach
•Printed paper documents are the base.
• Design with all relevant notes, comment marks
• Approval signatures, Release and distribution stamps.
• Showing only relevant parts: right focus
• Independent of IT hardware, connections, authorization and training.
•3D model is the only truth, management of maturity of parts, still drawings:
• Drawings are short-live communication tools
• Drawings are mono disciplinary, few details,
• in 3D model: Relations with other disciplines.
Cultural change: from push to pull
•Traditionally: Modifications communicated down streams (push)
•PLM: Responsibility to work with latest information (pull)
• Released? Maturity? Latest revision?
• What is modification date?
• More information available? AW
Outlook II: Intuitive user interface
- What: One actual truth, composed via multi authoring tools
- Simplicity: Everyone can access all info like
Solution is combination of
- Active Workspace
- attributes available
- 4GD Viewer
- Visual report

Outlook III: performance
• Cad models handling:
• car 8.000 parts
• Helicopter 22.000 parts
• 120m Yacht 1.000.000 parts
• Model load time 60 minutes > 1 minute
• Overview: whole yacht & tiniest details
• Zoom, rotate, sectioning
• Imported JT-files from external Cad
Measures• running indexing tools on the background, • combining models on the background to bigger monolithics, • automatic importing only updated parts, • loading first only rough empty older geometry, • setting up a latest working structure, • automatic switching while zooming to different level of details,• emptying cashing memory, • etcetera.
Thanks
