DO YOU KNOW? What makes a good driver?

The definition of a “good driver” might vary from com-pany to company. But one element all companies agree on is that a commercial driver must have a good driving record. To make it easier to identify safe commercial drivers, the Government of Alberta developed the Commercial Driver Abstract (CDA), which provides companies with accurate driving information on prospective and current drivers. Previously, the only driving information available was found in the standard driver abstract and any other infor-mation the driver was willing to share. A standard driver abstract contains moving violations

and information about licence qualifica-tions (for example: demerits, licence can-cellations and suspensions). For the same price as a standard driver abstract, the CDA offers companies an enhanced abstract that shows National Safety Code (NSC) violations, including those relating to: • hours of service; • cargo securement; • mechanical issues; • dangerous goods; and • Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Inspections.

Here’s your chance to get some new recipes and to share a recipe or two…

A few Team 9 members in Drumheller are putting together a cookbook with all your recipes.

So e-mail one or two of your best recipes to: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

The 3 ladies will put together the book and then sell it to whoever wants one for $10. The mon-ey will go towards a fundraising function for Team 9 eg. Relay for Life, MS walk, etc… something that we would need to raise money for a Team 9 member to participate in.

Because Team 9 Cares...AND we love to eat! Please submit by July 25th.

...Because Team 9 Matters...

Recognizing the value of Team 9 and acknowledging the trucking industry is very competitive, Hi-Way 9’s leadership has a plan to increase it’s employees’ hourly and mileage wages by an average of 10% over the next 3 years.

As a current review of industry standards is taking place regarding the rate of pay, Team 9 members will receive the first increase by October 1st, 2014.

It is vital for Team 9 to work together and be productive. This in turn increases profitability, allowing the leader-ship to distribute higher wages and look afterthis valuable team.

How can more winners create more value, you ask? First, recog-nize that the quality share program is monitored like a daily report card. Second, the only way to qualify to even enter the draw is hold an exemplary standing for their job position on the checks that ensure an efficient system for the Team & Customers alike. So– ensuring ones’ job responsibilities are completed with great efficiency, will in turn make happy customers and quality share will grow awarding prizes and payout. Pretty amazing system. More winners… more value.

Positives & Attendance

The Carriers That Care!

I received a call from Ed who works for Enmax across the street from us in Calgary. He wanted to compliment and send a message to management about the driver of 2250 (Ken Haldane) for his courteous and safe driv-ing. He stated that Ken had shown he was a profes-sional by allowing two drivers to merge in and give them room to safely get onto Stoney trail as Ken fol-lowed behind. He said it was nice to see a driver be as safe and courteous as this gentleman.

Thank-you Ken. Even when you think no one is paying attention to you on the road, someone is always watching. Thanks for proving that Team 9 is the Carrier that Cares-for safe driving as well.

Regards,

Joe Hearn Team 9 Southern Alberta Operations Director

Birger Mackeprang/Gord Peperkorn/Dale Cerin-Red Deer-This has been a big week with Connect with their LTD’s coming in. You stepped up to the plate and helped out where needed. We have been short a few people with holiday season upon us. You and a few others make our days easier. Thanks for going the Extra Mile and making our lives easier on a day to day basis.

Ken Thompson-Calgary-Our shift was down a shunt truck driver. You were nice enough to hop in the shunt truck and set up trailers, move trailers for us, and helped keep our yard clean. Helping each other out to help keep the night running smooth-thanks much Ken.

Marc Laurance-Brooks-Last night when Dennis broke down in High River, you came to the rescue and got the freight back into Calgary and tried to help Dennis get mov-ing again. You always seem to be pitching in where need-ed, be it an extra trip or helping another driver with a bro-ken truck, or helping Joyce and Dave with day to day things. Just wanted to say thanks and let you know your efforts are appreciated.

ATTENDANCE IS VITAL

Every Team 9 member is vital for the wheels of this well-oiled machine to run smoothly for the customers. When one misses work or shows up late-it’s not only the customers that suffer-but the fellow Team 9 members who are left scrambling that take a beating for something out of their control.

Knowing this-Hi-Way 9 is expressing appreciation for those Team 9 mem-bers that DO prove their commitment and dedication to the company by showing up on time-every time through prize draws.

Those pictured left, as well as Norm Armstrong, Sandy Gunn, Ray Bel-more, Vaed Daodat, Henry Ngomba and John Dolphin are but a few of the recent winners acknowledged for their excellent attendance. Thank-you!

CONFUSED? YA-ME TOO I have to be honest-I’m a bit confused as to why it seems to be optional for some to show up to work on time, let alone show up at all. Every area seems to have that one (or two) persons who are repeatedly late or absent. Hi-Way 9 is never quiet about sharing the importance of the customers and employees. When attendance is lacking it’s the customers who suffer. Isn’t it their money that fills our paychecks? Yup. And how much fun is it to be last-minute scrambling for a fellow Team member when they just don’t seem to care about their attendance? None at all.

This really just comes down to one detail-care. Please, Team 9, I ask you to care. Care for the customers. The Team. For yourself-because it is your job, your paycheck, your work reputation you are hurting when attendance is lacking.

...because I care…

The Carriers That Care!

A SEA OF GREEN One would think it has been Christmas with the combination of Team 9’s red & John Deere’s green. But no...it’s just been a busy season for this vital customer. Remember Team 9-if you see green-get it moving. There’s likely a farmer just waiting for that item!

Community. Family. Friends. TEAM 9!

Hi-Way 9 always enjoyed a participating in the many community events that take place throughout their service area. Seen at top are numerous Team 9 mem-bers celebrating Canada Day in the parade in Drum-heller with a couple of units. The following weekend Edwin Platt (right) and his daughter Anna were ready to throw out candy and footballs to the thousands that came to watch the local Three Hills parade.

Thanks Team 9 for sharing the fun!

Hiram Schmerer of Team 9 Calgary showed up on site at 5:00am to cook his fellow Team 9 mem-bers a Stampede Breakfast-pancakes and bacon to be had by all. Thank-you Hiram. You know how to start a great day!

Team 9 Red Deer:

We want to thank you for your generous gift of groceries. Housing 11 families every single night, we are deeply appreciative that you chose to help Ronald McDonald House Central Alberta. With your help we are able to fulfill our mis-sion of creating a home away from home for sick children and their families. Thank you for your gift, time and thoughts. We are immeasurably thankful for your kindness.
