Horsepower is still
the name of the game and
when it comes to all-out
raw power, blowers are still
the best way to get the
most cost-effective, pulse-
pounding gains. And when
you’re looking to supercharge
your power plant, there’s no
better place to obtain that
extra, added big boost
than at The Blower Shop.
After all, it’s what’s on top that counts!

During the first 15 years, beginning with the acquisition of Bowers Blowers in 1984, The Blower Shop primarily served the top fuel and alcohol dragster and drag boat market with high-performance
superchargers. The company was instrumental in the development of leading edge technology and increased performance of “roots” style superchargers and is now dedicated to bringing this technology to the high-performance street and marine markets.
Today, using our proprietary UDA technology, the Blower Shop manufactures a complete line of superchargers and components including low profile 192 CID, 250 CID, and traditional 6-71, 8-71, 10-71, and 14-71 blowers that are as beautiful and well made as they are devastatingly powerful.
Testing Most evaluation and dyno-testing of The Blower Shop’s products is completed at independent facilities and by amateur and professional race customers across the country. This provides TBS with accurate, unbiased test data and qualified opinions about TBS products that are not influenced or skewed in any way. Incidentally, The Blower Shop’s products have always met or exceeded our customer’s performance expectations.
Kits That Fit The Blower Shop prides itself on providing “kits that fit.” Unlike some companies, standard engine kits from The Blower Shop are meticulously designed and fitted for easy, hassle-free installation.
If you have one of the many variations in after-market engine components, call The Blower Shop’s trained technical staff. We will help ensure that you’ll get the perfect “kit that fits” your specific engine configuration.

192 CID and 250 CID Low Profile Superchargers
Only The Blower Shop’s Low Profile Superchargers fill today’s need for high quality, low profile blowers that fit within most engine compartments and suit the needs of today’s high-performance street rods and pleasure boats.
The TBS 192 and 250 low profile superchargers offer these advantages:
— 100% CNC machined case made from 6061-T6 aluminum bar stock (Stronger than a casting and polished to a high luster with no porosity)
— Billet aluminum bearing plates, front cover, and snout precision fit to exact tolerances
— Manifold works with both the 1205 / 1206 gaskets
— Input shaft made of heat-treated 4340 material for added strength and durability
— Machined to accept our standard 6-71 style carburetor adapters (250 CID only)
— 2-lobe rotor design for high efficiency under 10 PSI of boost
— Extruded rotors CAD designed and CNC machined to tight tolerances
— Teflon O.D. strip for better sealing and increased efficiency
— Heat-treated helical gears to keep rotors in perfect time and precision ground for smooth, quiet, long term operation
— 10 and 16 rib serpentine belt system with black hard anodized pulleys for maximum grip and wear protection
— 250 CID kits are available for standard deck and tall deck
— 2V kits for street use 3V kits for marine use
192 CID Low Profile Supercharger Kits
— All kits come fully polished.— Manifold works with Fel-Pro #1205/1206
gaskets.
— Fits standard 23˚ heads, early to 1986 applications. Later years require manifold modification.
Note: Includes carburetor adapter and top drive pulley.

#6020/6021 Big Block Chevy Crank Hub
(See page 18)
NOTE: All lower accessory pulleys are designed for use with a harmonic balancer. Even though the stock balancer will work for most mild applications, The Blower Shop recommends the use of an after market balancer such as ATI, BHJ, or Fluidampr. In addition, for hardcore race applications, The Blower Shop recommends the use of a crank hub. Kits for crank hubs are available on a special order basis.
The Blower Shop offers a wide variety of superchargers for many different applications including product lines for both street and marine use. They range from our most popular line, the 6-71 and
8-71 superchargers for both small and big block Chevy applications to the larger 10-71 through 14-71 for large CID, high-HP engines.
6-71, 8-71, 10-71, and 14-71 Superchargers
All "71 - Series" superchargers from The Blower Shop have been developed through 30 years of experience building high performance race blowers. Boost for boost, the 71 series helical three lobe rotor configuration and profile will give you added horsepower over the two-lobe straight rotor design, mainly at the higher boost numbers. Where the three-lobe rotor is significantly less parasitic and thus taking less horsepower to turn, the two-lobe straight rotor still has high efficiencies under 10 psi. For higher horsepower street / strip or all out drag race, the three lobe rotor is optimal but the 2-lobe is an excellent more economical choice for most street applications.

Static Pump Gas(93Octane)Compression BlowerBoostPressure(psi)Ratio
Effective Compression Ratio (ECR) = ((boost / 14.7) +1) *cr
Where: Boost = Max Supercharger Boost (psi) 14.7 = Atmospheric Pressure @ Sea Level (psi) CR = Engine Compression Ratio
To compensate for altitude when computing desired "effective compression ratio" use the following equation:
Corrected compression ratio = ECR - ((altitude / 1000) * 0.2)
Where: ECR = Derived from the above equation or table Altitude = Distance above sea level (in feet)
DeterminingWhatSizeCarburetorYouNeed
Maximum CFM Required = ((Engine CID x maximum RPM) / 3456) x ((max boost / 14.7) + 1)
Where: Engine CID = cubic inches of motor Maximum RPM = Max RPM the motor will be turned Max boost = Max boost under wide open throttle
Note: The chart and equations on this page are meant to provide fairly accurate numbers to help you achieve the proper engine settings. Please keep in mind that all engines are unique and tolerances will vary from one engine to the next. Use these numbers as a point of reference and not as an ultimate authority.

TBS Intercooler For 6-71 Through 14-71 Superchargers
The Blower Shop’s Intercooler was developed because of the screaming need to reduce in-take temperatures in high-performance marine power plants. To assure optimum performance and durability, TBS designed and built our system exclusively from billet aluminum, known for its strength over castings and gave it a fin count of 16 per inch on the air side and 16 on the water side. After TBS coats the core with exclusive “Chromacoat” protective coating for added beauty and longevity, we pressure test it to 100 pounds per square inch. We then include a billet end tank with 2 integral 3/4" NPT fittings for added strength and increased water flow. To test the cooling effectiveness of the TBS inter-cooler, we built a 1,050 horsepower, 497 cubic inch supercharged power plant capable of running at 7500 rpm. At 6000 rpm, without an intercooler, and 7.7 lbs. of boost, a baseline inlet temperature of 190 degrees was generated with 840 hp and 735 lb-ft of torque returned. At the same rpm, with 7.6 lbs. of boost below The Blower Shop’s Intercooler, the inlet tempera-ture dropped by 44% from 190 to 106 degrees. More significantly, horsepower and torque both increased from 840 to 900 hp, and from 735 to 787 lb-ft torque.

kind of gains could be had there. The guys in the shop
wanted to run this test after reading about another
company getting just over 800 horsepower using an
8-71 blower with race gas. The goal was to beat the
horsepower number using a smaller blower and pump
gas. With 852 horsepower using a 6-71 on 91 octane
pump gas, the goal was easily met. Ultimately, the
top number seen on the dyno was 911 horsepower at
7500 rpm, with 12.3 pounds of boost using race gas.
And that's with parts that anyone can buy off the shelf
with virtually no massaging (except for some minimal
work on the heads). Who wouldn't want to be around
this much horsepower?
The guys in the shop wanted to run this
test after reading about another com-
pany getting just over 800 horsepower
using an 8-71 blower with race gas. The
goal was to beat the horsepower number
using a smaller blower and pump gas.
Let's first look at the engine that was built for this
test. Starting with a production 350 Chevy engine
block, TBS added a Cola 3.562-stroke crankshaft for
9/16-inch more stroke compared to stock. The Cola
crankshaft has a standard size snout and it is mated
to a special harmonic balancer from BHJ that has
the small block Chevy inside diameter, but uses the
big block Chevy outside diameter for the seal. This
leaves a lot more meat in the keyway area, a critical
point where many harmonic balancers have failed.
This balancer requires the use of a two-piece timing
chain cover from Bo Laws (BLP, part number 60002),
this one happens to be billet. The crank is held solid
with a four-bolt large journal main bolt kit from ARP
(part number 134-5202). Scat 6.0-inch long H-beam
rods connect to the crankshaft and SRP forged pistons
are set at zero deck height for a 9.0:1 compression ratio.
The choice of heads is made a lot easier by the
use of The Blower Shop's two-piece manifold. TBS
went with the Brodix Track 1 heads for their great
34 Cranking Out 657 hp on 91 Octane Pump Gas Blasting Out 911.5 hp at 7,500 rpms 35
Takin’ It BEYOND The Limitalong with it so you can really maximize your perfor-
mance. The manifold is a billet CNC-machined two-
piece design for use on the Small Block Chevy, and the
low profile makes it especially attractive to Super Rods.
Of course, that's if you think running more than 650
horsepower with 9.46 pounds of boost on the street is
something that would interest you. We knew it would.
The 192 and manifold are possibly the perfect solu-
tion for your street-driven Super Rod but there is still a
bit of compromise to keep the package low enough for
most street uses (the 192 is about five and a half inches
shorter than a 6-71 blower). The Blower Shop knows
that the 192 isn't the perfect solution for everyone and
that's why TBS continues to develop high level pieces
for the bigger blowers like the 6-71 and the 8-71.
The Blower Shop's small block Chevy manifold,
for instance, works with most of the large aftermarket
cylinder heads that are currently available. Previously,
if you wanted to use Brodix Track 1, Dart 220, or AFR
220 heads, you had to weld up the top of the manifold
and re-port the intake to match the heads. The TBS
manifold eliminates all those hassles and the large ra-
dius on the floor of the intake allows for better airflow.
There are large radiuses on the entry of the ports with
2 3/4-inch long runners and a large plenum for added
torque. This manifold has a provision for a thermostat
for street use but there's no carburetor heat passage for
cold starts. With dual distributor hold-downs, you can
be sure of a positive distributor placement and multiple
boost ports for boost gauge and boost referencing fuel
pressure regulators or boost referencing carbs.
We were lucky enough to be invited to attend
a grueling dyno session that The Blower Shop had
planned at Norm Grimes's dyno shop (GSM). The plan
was to run a 192 supercharger on a small block Chevy
engine. Then the same engine would be used to test a
small diameter 6-71 blower, and then a large diameter
6-71 blower would be put through the paces. Finally,
an intercooler from The Blower Shop would be added
to the large diameter 6-71 supercharger to see what
out-of-the-box flow numbers, but they had McKenzie's
Cylinder Head's work a little magic on the exhaust
side (mainly) and O-ring grooves were added to the
heads for a positive combustion chamber seal. Fel-Pro's
Loc-Wire system gasket (part number 1045) has a ring
in the crush area which mates up with the O-ring
groove. The Brodix Track 1 heads have a very thick
deck that is compatible with nitrous and comes with
phosphorous bronze valve guides and hardened valve
seats for unleaded fuel. The Track 1 package head (also
available bare) comes with a 23-degree valve angle,
7/16-inch studs, 5/16-inch guide plates, and 1.550
roller valve springs.
TBS used shaft-mounted Jesel 1.6 ratio roller
rockers on the heads and a custom ground Comp
Cams roller cam (gross lift was .673-inches, dura-
tion at .050-inch was 264 degrees for the intake and
Test #6 was run with race gas and the supercharger
overdriven by 20 percent. This was the large diameter
supercharger with The Blower Shop's intercooler.
Power soared to 911.5 horsepower at 7500 rpm. . . .
270 degrees for exhaust) to control the Manley valves.
A Melling M-99HV-S oil pump was used because this
pump is for small blocks but it uses big block gears for
more oil flow. The oil pan from Dan Olson controls the
oil. The Dan Olson Racing Products pan uses several
trap doors and a scraper to keep the oil in the sump.

Now... 911.5 HP From A Small Block Chevy Using A Large Diameter 6-71 Supercharger From The Blower ShopBy Bob Carpenter, Staff Writer for Super Rod Magazine
Dyno: Extensive planning and testing are what reveals
reality when it comes to forcing an extra intake charge
into a small block Chevy engine. The Blower Shop spent
a lot of time to try out a variety of blower combinations
and shared the info with us.
The buzz about The Blower Shop's new 192
CID Supercharger has been nothing but good.
While tiny roots-style blowers have been done
before, it looks like The Blower Shop has perfected it.
This impressive piece is whittled out of 6061 T-6 Bar
stock and just might be the perfect way to boost the
power of your Super Rod, and still be able to have a
manageable street car. The case is 100 percent CNC
machined and features billet bearing plates in the front
and rear. There's a billet front cover and snout too. The
input shaft and coupler are heat treated 4340 material.
The gears are heat treated and ground. The thing appears
to be bulletproof.
As if the supercharger isn't enough, The Blower
Shop has gone all out and designed a manifold to go
www.theblowershop.com
36 Cranking Out 657 hp on 91 Octane Pump Gas
The bottom line is that you can get big-time horsepower without resorting to extremely expensive one-off or racing parts.
The tests with the 192 supercharger used TBS's manifold
and a single 1095 cfm Barry Grant King Demon carburetor.
The small diameter 6-71 superchargers used the same 1095
carb for a better comparison, but the large diameter 6-71
benefitted from the use of dual 775 cfm Race Demon car-
buretors from Barry Grant. Just in case you've never heard
about "small diameter" and "large diameter" 6-71 blowers,
let's clarify. Although dimensionally identical, the large
diameter version flows 18 percent more air (and proved to
be worth about 40 more horsepower) thanks to the larger
bore diameter and bigger rotors. Ask before you buy. The
addition of The Blower Shop's intercooler was another eye-
opener. It was responsible for almost 60 horsepower alone.
The Blower Shop Intercoolers feature a billet hous-
ing that is stronger than a casting with no core shift, and
polishes much better with no porosity. The core is made of
Aluminum with a protective coating called "Chromacoat".
The fin count is 16 per inch on the air side and 16 on the
water side. The core features a billet end tank with integral
3/4 NPT fittings for substantial water flow. The core is pres-
sure tested to 100psi.
With the quantifiable results in their fists in the form
of dyno sheets from Norm Grimes' super-high quality dyno
cell, the crew from The Blower Shop went a step further and
backed up their claims by running one of the combinations
at another dyno. Taking the 6-71 large diameter with the
intercooler on pump gas to Westech and finding four more
horsepower without making a change brought smiles to
the technicians.
The bottom line is that you can get big-time horsepower
without resorting to extremely expensive one-off or racing
parts. The combinations that The Blower Shop tested here
are all valid for use in the real world with a few caveats. If
you're planning on running 911 horsepower, you probably
should consider an aftermarket block and it would be a good
idea to detune the blower specs just a tad for street use. When
the ultimate "big" number isn't the only consideration we
have to say that we particularly like the 192 supercharger
and intake manifold combination for use in a wide variety
of street-driven cars. It's hard to see it as a compromise when
you're making more than 650 horsepower.
Power soared to 911.5 horsepower at 7500 rpm with an average of 882 horsepower from 6300 to 7500 rpm. That's enough power to make anyone stand up and take notice.
Test #1 was conducted with the 192 blower set with a
2.85" top pulley and using a King Demon 1095 carburetor.
The engine managed to pump out 653.7 horsepower at 6900
rpm on 91 octane pump gasoline with 9.46 pounds of boost.
That's an insane amount of power for a street driven car with
off-the-shelf parts but we'd certainly like to give it a try.
Test #2 was with the small diameter 6-71 supercharger
(underdriven by 12 percent) using the single 1095 Demon car-
buretor. With this relatively mild setup, the engine managed
666 horsepower at 7500 rpm with just 3.5 pounds of boost.
Test #3 used the same small diameter 6-71 supercharger
and 1095 Demon carb but this time the pulleys were switched
for seven percent overdrive. The power jumped to a max of
754.9 at 7500 rpm (7.3 pounds of boost) with a whopping
666 at 6100 rpm. The average horsepower from 6200 rpm
through 7500 rpm was 718.3.
Test #4 involved swapping to the large diameter 6-71
blower. The supercharger was first set for 15 percent under-
drive and two 775 cfm Demon carburetors were used. This
combination produced a maximum horsepower output of
744.3 with 5.1 pounds of boost (compare that to the under-
driven small diameter 6-71 with 666 hp and 3.5 pounds of
boost) at 7600 rpm.
Test #5 saw the boost increased to 9.3 while making
852.9 horsepower at 7600 rpm. This is still on 91 octane
pump gas. The dual 775 cfm Demon carburetors were jetted
with 74 primaries and 84 secondaries.
Test #6 was run with race gas and the supercharger over-
driven by 20 percent. This was the large diameter supercharger
with The Blower Shop's intercooler. Power soared to 911.5
horsepower at 7500 rpm, with an average of 882 horsepower
from 6300 to 7500 rpm. That's enough power to make anyone
stand up and take notice.
