DESCRIPTION
This Taylor Ranch Log Book is one of nine log books donated to the University of Idaho Library in the Fall of 2010. The logs detail daily events at the Taylor Wilderness Research Station from 1997 to 2010, as recounted by those living and working there; a majority of these entries were written by Holly and Jim Akenson, who lived full time at Taylor Ranch from 1985 to 2010. The logs provide information about the routine research and maintenance, as well as wildlife sightings and firsthand accounts of harrowing events, such as the dramatic 2000 forest fire and evacuation. The accounts not only serve as a primary source of wilderness information, they also offer personal insight into how the people of the Taylor Wilderness Research Station interacted with the wildlife and coped with the daily struggles and unexpected events that ca,e with living at the facility.
