PARK IMPROVEMENTS

You may have noticed some work going on at each of the parks in our community. If sod has not been installed at the new park (off of Meadow Marsh Dr), it will be shortly. Please try to have children use the trails/walkways as much as possible during the first 2 – 3 weeks of the sod being installed. The grass will be very wet during this time. There will be a 20’ x 20’ pavilion installed at the new park sometime during the month of May. To save money, we’ve decided to do a “community build”. If you’re interested in volunteering to help install the pavilion and picnic tables please email [email protected].

One of the tennis courts has been converted into a multi-use court: two half-court basketball courts and a tennis court. A new push button code lock has been installed on the two gates to enter the multi-use courts. If you do not have the code please contact K&R Premier Property Management. Here are a few easy guidelines for the multi-use courts:

• A responsible adult or mature adolescent over the age of 12 should supervise children using the courts under the age of 12.

• Games are on a first come, first play basis. • Children are not to play with, climb or jump on the tennis

court nets.• No hanging on the basketball rims and/or nets.• Please keep all rocks/debris off of the multi-use courts.• No bicycle riding, skateboarding, scooter riding or rollerblading

on the multi-use courts.

A big thanks to all who were able to help with the HOA Events in April. Spring Creek Beautification Week turned out great! We’ll likely be adding a 3rd dumpster for personal use next year. The Easter Egg Hunt was so much fun! We are grateful for all of the help that went into making these events possible.

The City of Lehi is encouraging its utility customers to follow responsible watering habits. The voluntary watering schedule is as follows: Odd-numbered addresses water on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Even-numbered addresses water on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. Spot-watering on Sunday.

The monthly HOA Board Meetings are typically held on the third Tuesday of each month. Please check the calendar on http://www.springcreek-hoa.com/events.html to verify the date and location.

Remember that front yards must be installed within 6 months of breaking ground on your new home. Front yards must be sod (pre-cut pieces) only, with an automatic sprinkler system. Vinyl fences must be tan in color. Please visit the resources page on the HOA website for links with detailed information.

HOA dues can be paid via ACH drafting (contact K&R). You have the option to pay monthly or yearly. If you’re able to do so, paying yearly provides the HOA with more operating funds to complete projects throughout the community sooner rather than later.

No gravel driveways or “horse fences” permitted. Those currently in existence must be converted to landscaping/concrete or the fencing must be removed by September 1, 2014.

When you take your pet for walks in the neighborhood, please remember to pick up after them. There are two new dogipot stations (dog waste removal systems) located along the walking trails.

How To Execute The Forehand Drop Shot

In previous newsletters, I offered tips on how to hit the forehand groundstroke, the two-handed backhand, the one-handed backhand, the forehand volley, the two handed backhand volley, the serve, the forehand half-volley, the one-handed backhand volley, the overhead “smash”, the forehand service return, the backhand service return, the forehand high volley approach shot, the two handed high volley approach shot, the one-handed high volley approach shot, the forehand lob, the two-handed backhand lob and the one-handed backhand lob.

In this issue, I will offer instructions on how to execute the Forehand Drop Shot. This shot is used when a player is deep on the baseline and returns a short soft ball. The player hitting the drop shop is forcing the opponent to run toward the net. This ball should be hit high enough to clear the net and almost bounce back toward the net. If the player running for the shot can get it on the first bounce, it will likely be off balance and will be forced to make an error or return for an easy put away volley. In the illustrations, Fernando Velasco, Manager and Director of Tennis at the Grey Rock Tennis Club, shows the proper technique to execute this stroke. This shot can also be executed from the base line when the opponent is expecting a deep return of a serve.

Step 1: The Back Swing: When Fernando detects the ball landing short and high, he starts his back swing high and compacted. He is using the continental grip and keeping his eyes focused on the flight of the ball. His left hand is up front to keep the proper body balance.

Step 2: The Point of Contact: Fernando is now ready to perform the drop shot. His eyes are now focused on the point of contact and the face of the racket is angled up to create the underspin on the ball. His goal is to keep his head still. His left hand is still in front and his weight is shifting toward his left foot.

Step 3: The Follow Through: The success of a drop shot is to keep the ball on the strings as long as possible. Fernando is almost “cupping” the ball during the follow through. Fernando’s grip is relaxed and the head of the racket is pointing toward the sky. His left shoulder is almost opening to the net and his eyes are following the path of the ball.

Step 4: The Ready Position: Once Fernando finishes the stroke, his goal is to follow the path of the drop shot. If he created a good drop shot and sees his opponent running with the head of the racket down, Fernando will move closer to the net or anticipate the angle shot. More likely it will be an easy sitter for a put away volley.
