I am strongly in support of Emeritus Status for John G. Eagan Ph.D. Professor Eagan has been teaching in the Business Administration for more than 47

years. His dedication to classroom instruction is exceptional. For more than ten years he has meet with his Accounting students on a volunteer basis for his students and for no compensation for himself on Saturday mornings to assist his student as a study group. He continues this practice for his students after retirement on a part time basis for no compensation. Professor Eagan has continued his professional growth with a Ph.D. from Capella University in Organization and Management. He has been recognized by receiving the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. He continues to serve as a member of The Academy of Management and as a member of Judges and Police Conference of Erie County. He has received from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award for his activities sponsored by the University of Texas at Austin. For the more than thirty years he served as the academic advisor for his students and

served his student as Chairperson of the Business Administration, City campus.

For Campus Community Involvement John Eagan was active in the West Side Kiwanis, a deputy on the Scientific Staff of the Erie County (N.Y.) Sheriff's Office, lecturer at the U.S. Small Business Administration's "Show Me the Money" seminar for twenty-two years, and a part time instructor at the Erie County Central Police Academy, and an usher in for church. Beyond any doubt, I recommend Professor John G. Eagan the Status of Emeritus. Thank you for your consideration. p ·~ John Danna, Professor of Physics North Campus 6205 Main Street, Williamsville, N.Y. 14221

RE: Professor Emeritus Status for Dr. John Eagan

To Whom It May Concern:

It is a privilege to write a letter of recommendation for Dr. John Eagan an outstanding professor in the Business Administration unit who has served as Department Chair for many years.

As a retired member of the Business Administration unit, I have known and worked closely with him for 36 years. As a former department chair, John's knowledge and expertise were immensely helpful to me. We worked together to accomplish unit wide Goals and Objectives, Program Review, Curriculum Evaluation and Revision, Faculty Selection, Appointments and Reappointments. His participation and leadership provided invaluable guidance.

Teaching Expertise

Accounting was his primary area of expertise. Many students, including many successful WNY leaders and business people, are indebted to him for his expert teaching. His willingness to help students with Saturday review classes reflects his commitment and generosity to ECC students.

He was awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and the ACBSP (Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs) Teaching Excellence Award for Region #1. He also obtained a $100,000 Entrepreneurial Grant to assist WNY students in starting business ventures.

Professional Growth

Always a dedicated professional, John is committed to currency and expertise in teaching his subject area, as demonstrated by his membership in the Academy of Management. In addition, NISOC (National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development) at the University of Texas (Austin) conferred on him their Excellence in Professional Growth Award.

Community Service

Actively involved in various community services, he was a Scientific Staff Deputy Sheriff for 37 years. In additional, he lectured sergeants and lieutenants for area police agencies on effective law enforcement management techniques. He is a former President of the West Side Kiwanis Club. For 22 years he frequently lectured for the SBA (Small Business Administration) "Show Me the Money" seminars.

There is no question that Dr. John Eagan should be granted the status of Professor Emeritus and I wholeheartedly make this recommendation. He is very deserving and has demonstrated his commitment to his students, to his profession, to professional growth, to his community, and to Erie Community College.

Sincerely,

Kathleen DeNisco Professor, Business Administration (Retired)

To Whom It May Concern:

I highly recommend John Eagan for the status of Emeritus Professor.

I have known John Eagan for over 30 years. John and I taught together at Erie Community College-City Campus. John was universally respected for his work ethic (John has practically perfect attendance over his long and storied career) and his detailed knowledge of business processes. John has taught the required Accounting course over 300 times.

In addition to his excellence as a professor, John has been the head of the ECC-City Campus Business Administration department for decades. Under John's leadership, the department gained a reputation for excellence and innovation.

John Eagan is a deputy sheriff who is engaged in community improvement. He is active in his local Catholic Church and frequently sings with the choir.

In addition, John is an avid investor. Over the years, John's portfolio has grown which allows him to participate in philanthropic causes for the betterment of our Community and our Society as a whole.

John is held in high regard by his colleagues and the education establishment. He is respected by his many students who have gone on to find employment and success.

John Eagan deserves to be awarded the Emeritus Professor position.

EMERITUS STATUS FOR THAMBY NINAN-ADANGAPUR PhD

It is with great pleasure that I not only nominate Dr. Ninan for Emeritus Status but that I also provide a letter of recommendation. I have worked with Dr. Ninan for 39 years. He along with Mary Losi hired me as a full-time faculty member in 1980.

His sincerity and love of teaching are apparent through out the years he taught in the Biology Department at South Campus. He established the department in 1974 when the campus opened and was its sole Biology Department member for 3 years until Mary Losi moved from North to South Campus.

Over the years, he instructed courses in College Biology (Bl 110-117}, Botany (Bl 225-226), Human Biology (Bl 107} and wrote and developed a course in WNY Flora which he taught for many years during the summer. Many of his students were the sons and daughters of previous students.

As the chair of the Biology Department at South Campus, I observed Thamby giving his time and energy to be sure the students learned what they needed to move forward in their chosen paths, be it medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant or biology major. He was always available to help and guide students above and beyond his office hours. He even helped students with problems outside of the day to day college life.

He brought his experience from Roswell Park along with many of his contacts from Roswell who taught as adjuncts over the years.

I highly recommend that Thamby Ninan-Adangapur be awarded the Emeritus Professor Status.

Dear Executive Vice President,

April 8, 2019

This letter is being submitted to support Emeritus Status for Dr. Thamby Ninan-Adangapur. Dr. Ninan is a recent retiree, of the Biology Depai1ment, from Erie Community College - South Campus. His dedication and professional performance places him into a special category that only a select few achieve. Recognition, for the many years of excellence, would assure him that he will always be remembered for his dedication and many years of service.

When I began teaching nearly 20 years ago, I was fortunate to be introduced to Dr. Ninan. He maintained a hectic schedule of both day and evening courses. I observed a unique relationship between him and his students. He spent countless hours, after class, clarifying everything from botany to zoology. His patience and soft spoken approach placed his audience at ease. I witnessed student after student approach him with issues of biology, advisement, and, occasionally, oflife. Dr. Ninan ' s passion for education extended beyond the classroom. He was a mentor to many.

Sincerely,

Donald W. Gill Jr. M.S. Ed

Dear Selections Committee:

It is with great pleasure that I am writing this letter to suppo1i the candidacy of Dr. Thamby Ninan for Emeritus Status.

As a Professor of Biology at the South Campus for forty-five years, Dr. Ni nan emigrated from Kerala, India fifty-one years ago. He earned a Ph.D. in Biology from Michigan State University. One of Dr. Ninan ' s courses included field trips to various W.N.Y. sites for the study of flora. As an example, his lecture class visited an interesting bog in Wyoming County, where carnivorous plants grow.

In the summer of 1992, Dr. Ninan was selected for a National Science Foundation fellowship to study advanced cloning techniques at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory of James Watson. Drs. James Watson and Francis Crick are famous for winning the Nobel Prize in Science which involved proposing the structure of the DNA molecule.

In the fall of 1993 , Professor Ninan received a three year $80,000 grant from the National Cancer Institute. His research involved developing a test to verify carcinogens in humans utilizing a bacterial format.

Based upon these statements, there are no reservations on my behalf that Dr. Thamby Ni nan should be awarded Emeritus Status.

Sincerely,

Alfred A. Stelmach, Ph.D. Professor of Physics

To whom it may concern:

It is with great pleasure that I nominate Dr. Ninan Thamby for the Emeritus Status award. I support his candidacy for his outstanding commitment to the service of his students.

First of all, he was always there for his students. Dr. Ninan was available to the students during office hours, non-office hours, lunch, in the halls, and even at the Mckinley Mall when he was

performing his every day walking exercises. Dr. Ninan was always available to represent the biology department at ECC open house events. He enjoyed the event so much that his was the first member of the department to volunteer.

His teaching style was loved by students. Thamby's teaching technique kept the students on task

at all times. Dr. Ninan used the chalk-and-talk method, simple but effective. This teaching

method allowed the students to pay full attention to the lecture. When passing by his classroom I was able to see his amazing diagrams and his clear hand writing. His notes and diagrams would

expand the entire length of the two boards. His passion for teaching was demonstrated by just looking at his hands and clothes covered with chalk. His diagrams were done with precision and care, showing specific details of the organisms studied. This traditional teaching method used by Dr. Ninan helped the students to stay on task, listen carefully, and learn to take notes effectively.

These skills are essential especially for students transferring to a 4 year college.

As a dedicated teacher who cared for his student, Dr. Ninan knew the importance of using different techniques to enhance learning. Through years of teaching experience Dr. Ninan found

another way to make the learning of biological concepts fun and exciting because he went outside of the classroom.

Dr. Ninan took his classes on several field trips. Through this teaching method, Dr. Ninan

encouraged student to work together, to ask question, think critically, socialize, communicate, and have fun. Hands on activities provided the students with better understanding of topics

discussed in class. This established teaching technique brought abstract biological concepts to life. Field trips provided valuable and memorable experiences to his students.

S tart Here, Go Anywhere!

Dr. Ninan is respected by his students and fellow faculty for his professionalism. He is a hardworking, generous, kind, humble, and knowledgeable professor. For all the reasons

mentioned above, it is with great honor that I nominate my South Campus colleague, Dr.

Thamby Ninan for the Emeritus Status award. Should you need any fmther information feel free to contact me at 716 270-5336 or at [email protected].

To: Dr. Douglas Scheidt, Provost' and Executive Vice President

I am writing this letter in support of Professor Susan Theeman's nomination for Emeritus Status. I was Susan's colleague for more than fourteen years which offered me the opportunity to consistently observe her work ethic of the highest standard, her dedication to _her students, her love of teaching and her devotion to enhancing the Mathematics/Computer Science department.

Susan served in numerous department roles during her tenure at ECC. Among these are Department Chair, Computer Science Committee Chair, Distance Learning Committee Chair, and the list continues. She was very involved in discussing relevant topics for each of these during department meetings.

In addition to these departmental roles, Susan was also extremely active in college wide committees during her time at ECC. She served as College Senator, Facilities Committee representative, Campus Ministry facilitator and Distance Learning Committee member. The list of her activities and participation is quite extensive as it was a priority for her to not merely teach students, but to contribute to the college as a whole in many different ways.

In all of these roles, Susan worked tirelessly as an advocate for both students and faculty members. She consistently demonstrated fairness, consideration, and persistence in striving to obtain the best possible outcome for the situation at hand. Students in her courses were always guaranteed her time and attention during office hours or any time that she could schedule them in for extra help. Faculty members benefited from her expertise in navigating any situation that arose at the college. Students also benefited from her unending participation in committees that would ultimately improve their education and the college as a whole.

In addition to working with students on mathematics and computer science topics, Susan also devoted a considerable amount of time advising and mentoring students, both the majors assigned to her and the students in her courses. She went above and beyond in this role, advising during START sessions and consistently making herself available to determine the best possible choices for each student. If a student was struggling with course work, she would engage them in conversations to ascertain the reasons why and try to help as well as offer time in addition to office hours to help students be successful.

State University of New York

Many of Susan's colleagues observed her interactions with students and her outstanding classroom instruction and therefore nominated her for the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, which she received during her tenure at ECC.

Professional development was also a priority with Susan. She attended many conferences and workshops including the annual NYSMATYC (New York State Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges) statewide conference. Others include multiple distance learning workshops, AMATYC, ITT, and the Mathematics Unit retreats. She would encourage others to attend and would always share her experiences with the department.

I firmly believe that Susan Theeman is a deserving candidate for Emeritus status. She has always exemplified what teaching is all about and was a role model for other faculty and our department. Erie Community College students are fortunate to have had such an outstanding teacher. The Mathematics/Computer Science Department was lucky to have had her as a dedicated member and most certainly feel a loss that she is not continuing with contributions on a daily basis. It is with pleasure that I nominate her for Emeritus status.

To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great pride that I support the nomination of Professor Sue Theeman for Professor Emeritus Status.

When she retired in August of 2018, Professor Theeman taught full-time at Erie Community College in the Mathematics/Computer Science Department of the North Campus for thirty years. During her tenure, Sue demonstrated a keen interest in the education of college students through her teaching and her interaction with students in and out of the classroom.

Professor Theeman taught developmental math courses, college algebra and the introductory computer science course. Her motivation and drive were exceptional. She always displayed a high degree of integrity, responsibility and ambition.

Professor Theeman was an outstanding faculty member. She improved the mathematics and computer science curriculum and strived to ensure that the academic standards remain intact. Through her efforts, the Mathematics/Computer Science Department thrived. Students felt that Professor Theeman really cared about them and about being the best teacher she could be.

When the need arose, Sue made the commitment to take the appropriate computer science courses that were necessary to teach CS 101. There was a shortage of teachers and she decided to help the department in this area. Sue also taught distance learning courses. She attended numerous workshops and the blackboard training to become proficient in the on-line delivery method. Her knowledge and willingness to help students led to increased retention. In addition, Sue taught Advanced Studies math courses at area high schools.

Professor Theeman is an excellent teacher. She always had time to help students. Student evaluations indicate that Professor Theeman is a knowledgeable instructor who cares about her students. She would spend time between and after classes in the computer lab to help not only her students, but others who needed direction. Many times you would find Sue in her office with a student way after her classes had ended.

Professional Development was a priority to Sue. She has attended numerous workshops and conferences over the years including the ITT Conferences, NYSMATYC, AMATYC, SUNY CIT, and the STC2014. Her desire to improve and always better herself was an example to others. She would often encourage colleagues to attend with her.

Sue served on many committees in the department, the unit and the college. For example, she was chair of the Mathematics/Computer Science Department, chaired the Computer Science Committee and was an active member of the Department Developmental and Distance Learning Committees. College-wide she served on the College Senate, the Distance Learning Committee and the Facilities Committee. Professor Theeman also worked very hard for Campus Ministry at the Neuman Center. In addition Sue worked on the GAP Retention sub-committee looking at the colleges New Student Orientation Program, START, CITC Committee, did advising for General Studies, and served as a senator on the College Senate. Her involvement and tireless contributions was a driving force in student retention. All were done to the best of her abilities and all of it was for the students and the college.

In 2015 Professor Theeman received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her dedication and excellent teaching was duly acknowledged in this well-deserved and prestigious award.

It has been a privilege to work with Professor Sue Theeman. She is a great inspiration as a teacher and is very deserving of the Professor Emeritus status. We have been very fortunate to have had Professor Theeman in the Mathematics/CS department.
