A Brief History
� Taiwan Long controlled by China, it was a military defeat in1895 that forced China to cede (give) Taiwan to Japan. 50years later, after the end of World War II, Taiwan reverted toChinese control.
� Over the next five decades , Taiwan prospered, andtransformed itself into one of Asia's modern economicpowerhouses, along with South Korea, Singapore and HongKong. Today, Taiwan is the 17th largest economy in the world,
and its immediate and long term futures are certainly bright.

CLOTHINGThere are many different types of traditional clothing inTaiwan. For example there are headdresses, kimonos, tunics,and sashes, and even particular kinds of ceremonial weddingdresses. There are about three main types of traditionalChinese clothing;
pien-fuThe pien-fu type of clothing is a ceremonial outfit that
consists of a top similar to a tunic that goes all the way to theknees! Also the Chinese wore skirts touching to their ankles.
chiang-piaoThis chiang-piao is feminine look that is still noticed today onboth genders at special occasions/events. This includes along gown coming from the Chin dynasty .
