Anderson Mili- tary Citizen of the Year Award to Colonel H. Membership is comprised of three architects, four individuals with professional expertise in preservation-related fields, one rep- resentative from the Tacoma Arts Commission, and three interested citizens. Non-voting ex- officio members may be appointed to represent property and business owners within Tacoma's historic districts. The City issued a call for applications last month to fill four volunteer positions on the com- mission: Architect (one position) — This position is open to individuals residing in Tacoma who are currently or have in the past been professionally certified architects; At-Large (two positions) — These positions are open to individuals with a demonstrated in- terest in historic preservation who are residents of Tacoma; Professional (one position) — This position is open to individuals who have had professional experience or training related to historic pres- ervation originating from employment or study within the following disciplines: arts or art his- tory, architecture, history, architectural history, planning, prehistoric and/or historic archaeolo- gy, conservation, construction or building trades, landscape architecture, urban planning or de- sign, structural engineering, land use or real estate law, real estate, appraisal or real estate finance, project management or contracting, or a related discipline. presented the 36th annual John H. Anderson Mili-tary Citizen of the Year Award to Colonel H. Charles "Chuck" Hodges, Jr.

Hodges has nearly 30 years of service in the U.S. Army, and has served as Joint Base Lewis-McChord's (JBLM's) commander leading nearly 3,500 soldiers, air-men, and civilians since August 2012. Recently, Hodges worked collaboratively with elected JBLM staff and federal, state, county, and local government of-� cials on projects that aim to im-prove the quality of life for more than 100,000 service members, civilian employees, and fam-ily members assigned to JBLM, such as the construction of a con-nector road and overpass that is scheduled to open this spring and allow JBLM commuters to drive non-stop from Lewis-Main to McChord Field without having to use Interstate 5 or exit and re-enter JBLM through its gates; an effort to replace several aging JBLM schools; and the promotion of a hiring fair con-necting employers with service members and veter-ans.
