Operation. T4000 Turbine Meters aredesigned for installation where occasional lowand moderate to high sustained flows aredemanded. Water passes through the meterwithout a change in flow direction, driving ahelix rotor in direct proportion to the quantity of water passing through the meter. Rotor revolutions are transferred to a register by a magnetic drive.
Compliance to Standards. The T4000Turbine Meter complies with all performanceand material requirements of the AmericanWater Works Association Standard C701, II In-Line (High-Velocity) Type, as most
recently revised.
Installation. The meter must be installed in aclean pipeline, free from any foreign materials.Install the meter with direction of flow as indi-cated by the arrow cast in the meter case. Themeter may be installed in horizontal, inclinedor vertical lines. Elster AMCO Water recom-mends that all turbine meters be installed with10 pipe diameters of undisturbed flowupstream of the meter, and five pipe diame-ters of undisturbed flow downstream of themeter. It is highly recommended that a platestrainer be used to protect the turbine andhelp reduce the effects of turbulence.Furthermore, the addition of a strainer reduces
the required pipe diameters of undisturbedflow to five upstream and 3 downstream. Theinstaller should consider a bypass pipe withgate valves for use during maintenance and a downstream test tee for future field-testing.
Application. T4000 meters are for use inPOTABLE COLD WATER up to 120°F (50°C) andworking pressures up to 150 psi. The meter willperform with accuracy registration of 100% + 11/2% within the AWWA recommended flowranges*. Both pressure loss and accuracy testsare made before shipment. No adjustmentsneed be made before installation.
Construction. The meter consists of a maincase, a measuring element, a case cover anda magnetically driven register assembly. Insizes 1 1/2" through 8" the main case is cast ineither traditional waterworks bronze or low-lead bronze with raised characters showingmodel, size and direction of flow. The 10" and12" T4000 main cases are constructed out ofepoxy coated cast iron. The case has athroated inlet. The measuring element assem-bly consists of the rotor, straightening vanes, accuracy regulator, spindles and gears. Themeasuring element is attached to the under-side of the cover with stainless steel screwsand washers. The internal accuracy regulatorvane is interconnected with an external regula-tor assembly located underneath the register. This allows meter calibration without depres-surizing the test bench or meter service. Theregulator is protected by the register assembly, assuring tamperproof performance. The maincase and cover are assembled with an O-ringgasket and stainless steel bolts. The register
assembly is secured to the main case with atamperproof screw or tamperproof punch pin.Sizes 4" through 8" come standard with inte-gral test ports.
Register. The register is contained within a90% copper seamless can which is oven curedat 150°F for 90 minutes to eliminate condensa-tion. The 1/4" true tempered glass lens issecured in an "L" shaped gasket, and then rollsealed to produce a permanent sealed design. To assure easy reading, the totalizer wheelsare large and color-coded. The applicablesize, model, registration, part number and datecode are printed on the calibrated dial face.Moving clockwise during operation, the extrathin sweep hand does not interfere with meterreading, and the flow indicator will detectplumbing leaks.
Connections. The 3" through 12" meters areavailable with round flanged end connections. The 1 1/2" and 2" meters are available with 2-bolt oval flanged-end connections. Bothflanged connections conform to ANSI B16.1 cast iron pipe flange, Class 125. Both bronzeand cast iron companion flanges are available. The companion flanges are faced, drilled andtapped with ANSI B2.1 internal taper pipethread and conform to ANSI B16.1 cast-ironpipe flange, Class 125.
Maintenance. The measuring element withintegral straightening vanes can be removed, repaired or replaced without removing themain case from the service line. Pretested andcalibrated measuring elements with coverplates and registers are available for exchange
or purchase. In addition, Elster AMCO Watermaintains a fully equipped and staffed repairfacility in Ocala, Florida.
Reading Options. T4000 meters are availablewith Absolute Encoder and Digital registeroptions to provide water usage output to theentire spectrum of electronic meter readingsystems, giving flexibility to utilities implement-ing or upgrading reading technologies. ElsterAMCO Water's Encoder and Digital registersinterface to a variety of automated meter read-ing systems, allowing technology upgradewithout register replacement.
Electronic Meter Reading (EMR). The T4000 isavailable with InVision Absolute Encoder tech-nology that allows electronic interrogation ofthe meter's register via inductive coupled touchpads. Elster AMCO Water's pit version of theInVision encoder utilizes a fully potted glasslens, permanently sealed to eliminate anychance of moisture penetration. The InVisionregister features a programmable ID number, leak detector that provides visual indication ofplumbing leaks, factory potted touch pads forwall or pit-lid mounting, and low power con-sumption for AMR applications.
Automatic Meter Reading (AMR). ElsterAMCO Water offers the full spectrum of RF technology alternatives - Walk-by, Drive-by and Fixed Network, to reduce reading costbeyond electronic meter reading, while furtherincreasing personnel safety. RF Transmittersaccept input from the Elster AMCO Water'sEncoder or Digital Register for reliable meas-urement inputs. RF Systems from Elster AMCOWater are designed for reading both pit andinside set meter installations, and are to per-form in the extremes of service conditions theywill encounter.Meter Dimensions (inches) Weight
