Dear International Student!Deciding whether to spend a semester or more abroad might be one of the most important decisions of Your life. A thousand questions must be rushing through Your head: will I manage in a foreign coun-try...? Is it easy to make new friends...? What about language issues and cultural differences...? Is it going to be an adventure...? What if...?
Going abroad is not just a journey to another country. It is also a jour-ney to Yourself, which may lead You to discover who You really are and what are Your goals in life. As they say – look from afar and You will be able to see things more clearly. Our motto at TTK University of Applied Sciences is: “Practice is the Best Teacher – Usus Est Magister Optimus!” So, in order to get rid of all the “ifs”, go for it!
As You will soon discover, being an exchange student is as much about giving and sharing as it is about receiving. Being an ambassador of Your country is both a privilege and a responsibility.
The staff and students of TTK welcome You with warm hearts, despite the cold weather you may sometimes experience. I wish You a pleas-ant and inspiring stay at TTK University of Applied Sciences!
Tere tulemast! Welcome!
Hedi PeHme Head of International Relations

TTK University of Applied Sciences – Your Reliable Partner in Education and ResearchTTK University of Applied Sciences is proud of its long history and continuing traditions. The predecessor of TTK, Tallinn Commercial School for Boys, was founded in 1915. TTK has had many different names, but the most well-known of them is Tallinn Technical School for Building and Mechanics (TEMT), which started providing engi-neering studies in the fields of construction and mechanics in 1940. In 1992, TEMT started transferring its curricula from the level of vo-cational education to the level of applied higher education. In 1999, the university was named Tallinna Tehnikakõrgkool (TTK University of Applied Sciences).
Research and development at TTK University of Applied Scienses is coordinated by the Research and Development Council and the Tech-nology Transfer Centre. Every year, Proceedings of TTK University of Applied Sciences is published. Since November 2000, the university has been publishing a monthly newspaper Young Engineer. The re-search activities of students are coordinated by HEUREKA, a scientific association for students.
Through applied research, TTK binds together the needs of companies and university competence. Today, the society needs highly competi-tive specialists who are able to succeed in a globalizing and continu-ally developing world. Lifelong learning, internationalization, innova-tion and creativity have become inseparable elements of our reality. Together with our students, TTK wishes to develop continuously. This goal also reflects in our visual identity. Our new logo – gateway to opportunity – symbolizes the university as a gateway, allowing its stu-dents to develop their future in a creative and open way.

„Usually my motto is: why do it the easy way when you can do it the hard way too! My thesis had so much practical work related to t, which I wouldn t have had back home. This has taught me that the other way around is often more interesting.“
