MATH 215 REDESIGN PROCESSThe redesign plan is informed by American Statistical Society’s Guidelines for

Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education • Emphasize statistical literacy and develop

MATH 215 REDESIGN PROCESS

What is new?

A new course design that includes adaptive learning technology, interactive online lectures, emphasis on conceptual understanding and everyday applications

and increased technical support for students


Interactive Lectures

Animated, pre-recorded, web-based interactive lectures chunked with check-your-learning questions with helpful feedback. These lectures will provide online students a learning environment that is comparable to an in-class experience.

These multimedia lectures will replace Study Notes.

Each module will have approximately 2-3 multimedia lecture.

Calculator videos will be embedded in related modules.

These can be used in the class or during a Meet session.


SmartBook/LearnSmartFrom the Company: SmartBook™ is the first and only adaptive reading

experience designed to change the way students read and learn. It creates a personalized reading experience by highlighting the most impactful concepts a student needs to learn at that moment in time.

How is it set up? No extra charge to Franklin University students. 10 points for completing the weekly homework. They can work on an assignment unlimited number of

times before its due. The percent score they have at the due date will be multiplied by 10 and entered in grade book by the instructor.

They can still continue working on the SmartBook assignment after its due for practice, but their score won’t change after its due date.

This will be integrated in ConnectMath in near future.


ConnectMath Online homework/quiz platform (Replacing MathXL) Access code is needed and is bundled with the book

How is it set up? On most weeks there is a video assignment and a

homework assignment. Once the students watch the videos and complete 80%

mastery on the homework, they will receive 4 points AND the quiz will be unlocked. At the homework level, all the help buttons will be available and they have 3 attempts to answer a question correct.

Quiz questions are selected very similar to homework. 2 hr time limit and one attempt for each question. No help button. Their percent score on the quiz will be multiplied by 10 and it will be their quiz score.

When entering the grades in the grade book, 4 pts from the homework and the points from the quiz will be added together and the sum will be entered as their CM homework score for that week.


Group Assignments Online students will form teams and work

on these assignments as a group. The answers will be posted on the discussion board. Each group assignment is 7 points worth.

FF students will complete these group assignments in class (in teams)as part of the planned class activities.

Most of the group assignments are from the current course.

The answer keys are attached in the Faculty Prep folders in each week.


Application Assignments After students read, viewed, studied,

practiced and worked together, now it is time to apply their gained knowledge to real life problems. Each week will include an application assignment to assess whether or not the students are able to apply that week’s concepts and procedures to different situations.

Most of them are case studies (using real data) from the textbook.

These are individual assignments and worth 12 points.

The answer keys are attached in the Faculty Prep folders in each week.

MATH 215 REDESIGN PROCESSProjects

There are two projects in the course. - Coin Toss Project: From the current course with some edits—42 points - Data Analysis and Inference Project: From the current course with some edits—42 points

These are important to help students see the “big picture” and see how each concept is linked with each other to solve a business problem.

No Presentation is included.

MATH 215 REDESIGN PROCESSTests

There are two tests (100 points each) and a comprehensive final exam (200 points) and they are all proctored tests.

First test is in week 6 Second Test is in week 11 Final Test is week 15

Test Reviews Study Sheets for tests need to be

reviewed and edited to be aligned with the new outline.

What Else?

There is a new attendance statement for online Math215 students under the attendance policy. Please read it and enforce it.

SLC’s support for this course will continue with SLA’s, tutoring (online or FF) and test review workshops.
