Profile of the Director :
Col (Dr) Jayalakshmi N (Retd)
Col (Ms) Jayalakshmi Namasivayam Pillai (Retd), an Honours degree holder in Nursing from
Rajkumari Amrit Kaur College of Nursing, University of Delhi and a Post graduate from the same
University with specialization in Psychiatric Nursing is presently heading the institution. An Ex-
Army officer and a Postgraduate diploma holder in Hospital and Health Care Management from
Symbiosis International University. Col (Ms) Jayalakshmi Namasivayam Pillai (Retd) has headed
Armed Forces Medical College, College of Nursing, Pune, for four years and School of Nursing
at Army Hospital Research and Referral, Delhi Cantonment, for three years. On 3rd Oct 2012 she
has been elected as the President of Trained Nurses’ Association of India, Pune City Branch. She
has established Post Graduate Programme with three specializations, initiated Institute of
Medicine, Washington DC Project through PHFI, bagged GFATM Project through Indian Nursing
Council. Col (Ms) Jayalakshmi Namasivayam Pillai (Retd) is with Symbiosis College of Nursing
from the time of its inception. She has been awarded Ph.D from Symbiosis International University
in the year 2014.
She received an achievement award in the hands of the Mayor, Pune city, from TNAI Pune City
branch on 10th May 2016.
Institute Profile
Symbiosis College of Nursing (SCON) was established in the year 2007 with an aim to create
leaders in the nursing profession by providing unique, innovative programme that are responsive
to the market needs. SCON is recognized by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and Maharashtra
Nursing Council, Mumbai. The programme offered by SCON ensures numerous career avenues
for a graduate and post graduate nurse in the healthcare industry across the world. SCON is
associated with major hospitals of Pune city to provide necessary ‘hands-on’ clinical and para-
clinical experience necessary for the students pursuing hospital based academic programmes.
Symbiosis College of Nursing thus aims to create a benchmark in nursing education in India. The
overall aim of nursing programme is to prepare a graduate Nurse to work as frontline worker in
the clinical and community field and educational arena.

Eligibility: (As per Indian Nursing Council requirements)
1. The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife or equivalent with
any State Nursing Registration Council.
2. The minimum educational qualification shall be the passing of: B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc.
(Hons.)Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with minimum of 55% aggregate marks from
an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
3. Minimum one year of work experience after B.Sc. Nursing.
4. Minimum one year of work experience before or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
5. Candidate should be medically fit.
Documents required at the time of Admission
1. Certificate of passing the qualifying examination.
2. Mark list of 10th, 12th standard and qualifying examination.
3. Migration Certificate in original.
4. Requisite Caste certificate issued by the competent authority, if applying for admission against
reserved category.
5. ‘Gap’ Certificate, if applicable.
6. Certificate of change of name, if applicable, supported by documentary evidence like
Government Gazette Notification.
7. Character Certificate.

Orientation and pedagogy
Orientation to the programme is offered in Induction programme for a period of two days. The
programme is divided into theory and clinical blocks
Theory Block
The student is expected to attend the classes in the college or clinical campus as per the course
structure. Lectures, lecture cum demonstration, seminars, discussions, panel discussion, field
visits, programme instructions etc. are used in providing teaching learning experience.
Clinical Block
Students are posted to the various hospital settings and community set up as approved by the
council and supervised clinical practice is implemented as designed in the curriculum. Students
are expected to write patient oriented assignments as outlined in the programme structure.

Extra and Co-curricular activities
05th May 2015 - IAP Quiz: was organized by SCON in collaboration with Indian Academy of
Pediatrics where participants from five different Nursing colleges across Pune participated in a
group of four students each and Symbiosis College of Nursing Students Bagged the Second
Prize.
08th May 2015 - International nurse’s day celebration: organized by SCON on behalf of
Trained Nurses Association of India, Pune city Branch at Vishwabhavan Auditorium. Chief guest
of the event was Dr. Rajani Gupte, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Symbiosis International University,
Guest of Honour- Dr. Meeran Chadha borwankar, IPS, Director General of Police, Inspector
General of Prisons, Maharashtra, Brig. G P Rani, Brig, MNS, HQ, SC. SCON students & staff
members have received awards in the function.
15th Aug 2015- Fitness For Freedom Run: Total 50 students from SCON had participated in the
event. Ms. Neelam B.Sc. nursing first year, finished the race at 18th position in Elite Girls category.
Mr. Nithesh N ,Tutor, Participated in General Men Category and stood 07th . Col (Dr) Jayalakshmi
N (Retd), Prof. Dr. S G Joshi participated in Veteran Group category. Dr. Jayalakshmi secured
06th position.
09th Sep 2015 –Onam: SCON students along with Faculty members celebrated festival of onam
at SIMS, Kirkee with pomp and show followed by sumptuous ‘Sadhaya’ – Onam feast.
30th Sep & 01st October 2015- Outbound activity & Panache: Outbound activity was
organized at SIU Lavale and panache at vishwabhavan auditorium for fresher students.
Honourable Vice Chancellor, SIU, Dr. Rajani R Gupte was invited as the Chief Guest for the
event. SCON students and SCON staff participated in sports, talent show and Group dance event.
10th -11th October 2015 -International Relations Conference 2015: “Link West : India and
the Gulf “under the aegis of the Symbiosis International University (SIU), the Symbiosis School
of International Studies (SSIS) organized an International Relations Conference (IRC) . The
conference was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Hamid Ansari on
10 October 2015. SCON faculty members had attended the conference.
29th - 31st Oct 2015 -SNA, State level Biennial Conference: 20 students and two faculty
member had attended the Conference at Bel Air College of nursing, Panchgani. The students had
participated in various events like Poster Competition, Scientific Paper Presentation, Group
Dance, Health Education, Ms. SNA, Javellin Throw, Discuss Throw, 100mtr race, etc. Ms.
Dipika Gautam, 2nd year B.Sc. Nursing student was awarded as Ms. SNA, Maharashtra State.

7th November 2015 -Diwali celebration: International students of SCON had also participated
along with International students of SIU to celebrate Dipawali at Symbiosis SB Road campus.
The Celebration had Lighting of Diya's & spectacular fire work followed by Dinner.
20th -26th Nov 2015-SNA National level Biennial conference:: Ms. Dipika Gautam, 2nd year
B.Sc. Nursing & Ms. Gauranshi Kaur, 4th Year B.Sc. Nursing participated in SNA National level
Biennial conference at Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. Ms. Dipika Gautam reached till the final round
(Top-5) for Ms SNA at National Level.Ms. Gauranshi Kaur has received accolades from all for
her scientific paper presentation.
20th & 21st Nov 2015- Oxfam Trail-walker : 43 SCON students under the supervision of Mr.
Mangesh Jabade volunteered the third edition of Mumbai Oxfam Trailwalker
11th & 12th Dec 2015 -National Conference: Nursing department of Deenanath Mangeshkar
Hospital and Research Centre had organized two days National Level Conference on “Meeting
The Nursing Challenges in Obstetrics and Gynecology” . Five M.Sc. Nursing students from
SCON had attended the conference.
13th December 2015 -Alumni Meet : Alumni ,meet for the year 2015 was conducted at SCON
.The function was started by a small felicitation to the Alumni students by the junior students
followed by games and prize distribution. The students have shared their experience in symbiosis
and the life after symbiosis.
18th Dec 2015- Christmas Celebration: SNA unit of Symbiosis College of Nursing has
celebrated Christmas at Pool side AV Hall, SIMS Kirkee.Lt. Gen. Dr. M A. Tutakne had also
attended the function. The programmes involved several cultural activities presented by national
and international students. All the SCON students have actively participated in the event
12th Jan 2016- Yog Shivir : On occasion of the Rastriya Yuva Diwas, SIU has organized a Yoga
Shibir for staff and students of Symbiosis from 04.00 p.m to 06.00 p.m on Tuesday,12th January
2016 at SIU Campus, Lavale. The Yoga Shibir was conducted by Param Pujya Shri. Baba
Ramdevji. SCON students were among 6500 students, who participated in the event.
13th Jan 2016 New year celebration party : Lila girls, receipt of Lilapoonawa scholarship had
actively participated during new year celebration party at Lila Poonawala foundation .Ms. Sora
Gamter of B.Sc. second year was crowned as Ms. LILA GIRL 2016 among 2000 students .
17th Jan 2016 -Pulse Polio Programme: 47 Students of SCON had participated in the pulse
polio program, covered Pimpri Chinchwad area.
24th Jan 2016- All India Essay writing competition: Shri. Ramachandra mission had organized
All India Essay writing competition and four students from SCON have been selected for
excellent performance. SCON students received prizes during prize distribution ceremony which
was scheduled at Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Off Sinhgad Road, Nanded Village Pune.
25th Jan2016- Symbi Fit :The final round of Symbi Fit was organized at SIMS auditorium.
Mrs. Ranjana Chavan was crowned as Ms. Symbi Fit in Senior Women Category.Mr. Sangram
Chaugule, Ms. Deepika Chaudhary, Mr. Talwalkar, Mr. Mathur Agarwal, was the Guests for the
event.
02 Feb 2016- Lamp lighting ceremony: SCON had lamp lighting ceremony of VIII Batch of
B.Sc. Nursing students at Vishwabhavan Auditorium, SB road. Dr. Amita Phadnis, Managing
Director, ONP Healthcare Hospital, was the chief guest. Lt. Col Cissy Cruze (Retd), Director
Nursing Services, Ruby Hall Clinic & TGINE was the Guest of Honour.

11th & 12th March -Conference - Hospicon 2016: 55 Students of Symbiosis College of Nursing
had attended Hospicon 2016 at IMA, Tilak Road organized by Sacheti Hospital management for
two days. SCON students bagged first prize in debate competition.
17th March 2016 -Mahila Melawa’ function: P.B.B.Sc. Nursing students who received
scholarship attended ‘Mahila Melawa’ function at Ishanya Foundation . All Ishanya foundation
aspirants have participated in various events like Bridal Makeup, Dance and Skit. Students of
SCON performed skit and bagged 1st prize.
Hostels
Well-equipped residential facilities with attached toilet and bath are available for boys and girls
student separately.
Health Care services
The Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) is the in-house Health Care unit exclusive to the
staff and students of the various institutes of Symbiosis. The center is concerned about the
preventive, promotive and curative health of every individual under the banner of symbiosis, be it
a student or employee. The SCHC has a team of specialist doctors who conduct the (compulsory)
annual health checkup. Outpatient treatment is provided to the students by the medical officers of
SCHC. The center also arrange seminars and health education workshops. Each student is insured
under Medi-Claim and Road Traffic Accident Policy. A copy of the policy document is available
with the Registrar/Office Superintendent. For further details regarding the benefits of the policy,
the student may contact the SCHC.
The SCHC also provides an in-house, modern health and fitness center with a view to facilitate a
holistic development of mind and body for an all-round development of our students.
The Recreation & Wellness Center is all about a harmonious development through systematic, safe
and personalized activities carried out under the expertise of highly trained professionals. Training
facilities for strength, endurance, flexibility and cardio vascular fitness including Yoga and
Meditation which is provided in customized capsules suited to the unique requirements of the
student population in synchronization with their academic curriculum. The center thus provides
preventive, promotive and curative healthcare services with a view to ensure positive health to all
members of the Symbiosis family.
