SWOT Analysis QuestionsStrengths What are your advantages? What do you do well? I always find opportunities however varied to advance myself. Why did you decide to enter the field you will enter upon graduation? What were the motivating factors and influences? Ensuring that it was something I would enjoy doing and would advance my skill set Ensuring that even if short-term, I would create work that I could include in my showreel to showcase my works

Do these factors still represent some of your inherent strengths? Yes they do. I always endeavor to develop and advance myself despite any setbacks

What need do you expect to fill? The need to have a sustainable career The need to have a career that I enjoy and that I can further advance in The need to have a career that is extremely varied and also allows for future travel opportunities

What have been your most notable achievements? My placement year I undertook a lot of editing work. I also became further involved with live media, thus sparking an interest in being involved with live events. I was an event manager, which advanced my leadership skills My final year project I received a first for the project. The project has been well received by those who helped fund it, by lecturers, friends and prospective/previous employers. The film will in some way be showcased at the CCI Graduate Show 2015 or in the TVFP London BFI Show 2015 Working with Wolf Olins. I learnt a lot and have been able to keep in touch with a contact in the company. My work experience with them has developed my interest for working in advertisement, or as in an IT role, of which I have developed my technical skills

To what do you attribute your success? Ability to be flexible and adaptable to various experiences Being open-minded about future career opportunities I could undertake Creativity in trying new things and being involved in various projects

How do you measure your success? How well my work, or experience is received and commended

What knowledge or expertise will you bring to the company you join that may not have been available to the organization before? Varying media experiences from live media, to short film projects Experience in varying leadership roles Experience advertising and promoting an institution Experience working with a vast range of age groups Skills in filmmaking, sound operating and editing, and thus being an all rounder for small projects What is your greatest asset? Leadership and management skills, organizational and adaptability skills

Weaknesses What could be improved? Showing development of my artifacts Further research of entry-level jobs Undertaking further individual projects Having a driving license and a car

What do you do badly? Keeping up with social media. This is key in a vast number of media jobs Updating my Tumblr blog regularly

What should you avoid? What are your professional weaknesses? Advanced knowledge of television programs, which is vital for working in the TV industry I restrict the TV shows I watch to mainly American crime drama and so I am not familiar with other shows. This is a downfall for being adaptable to work in the TV industry My written work isnt amazing for advanced roles such as sub-editor assistant sub - editor Not extremely proficient on the camera or with lighting Not having enough customer experience.

How do they affect your job performance? (These might include weakness in technical skill areas or in leadership or interpersonal skills.) A number of jobs advertised need someone who is competent with a camera I have had missed opportunities for sub-editor assistant roles. And although this is not necessarily tied in with my course, its always a good option to have I have missed out on a role purely because I did not have as much customer experience despite being better with media

Opportunities Where are the promising prospects facing you? Working in wedding/corporate video companies Working in a technical role such as IT assistant Working in HR, Ive had positive feedback in this Working as an editor

What is the "state of the art" in your particular area of expertise? My area of expertise is producer/event management roles This area however, still needs one to have competent practical skills, especially as an entry into the TV and Film industry

Are you doing everything you can to enhance your exposure to this area? I am undertaking leadership and management roles in university and individual roles to advance this I am becoming further involved in editing so as to enhance this skill

What formal training and education can you add to your credentials that might position you appropriately for more opportunities? Currently I believe as I do not have as much experience in the industry itself, this is proving to be far more beneficial I could advance my practical skills especially camera whilst still at university to give myself an edge I need to complete my driving as this is a setback for attaining entry-level and other jobs

Would an MSc/MA or another graduate degree add to your advantage? Only if I first had at least a year fully in the industry

How quickly are you likely to advance in your chosen career? Dependent on the entry-level role I undertake In runner, production assistant roles, it will take time In HR or IT roles, I can advance a lot faster I can also, and I aim to in the near future, create my own company with a focus on wedding/corporate videos

Useful opportunities can come from such things as: Changes in technology and markets on both a broad and industry-specific scale Changes in government policy related to your field Changes in social patterns, population profiles, lifestyle changes, etc.

Threats What obstacles do you face? Are the requirements for your desired job field changing? Yes. The vary dependent on the needs of the current market

Does changing technology threaten your prospective position? No yet. My prospective position as a Producer could potentially be advanced by changing technology

What is the current trend line for your personal area of expertise? Runner Production Assistant/Production Accountant 2nd Assistant Producer 1st Assistant Producer/ Production Manager Line Producer Producer

Could your area of interest be fading in comparison with more emergent fields? The producer role is becoming far more varied dependent on the work you are involved with e.g. entertainment vs. documentary, and even dependent on the company you are working with, or whether you are a freelancer You are expected to have an advanced overall understanding of other roles that are in your industry. You are expected to have some advancement in a practical skill though this will not quite be in use as you advance. You are expected to have an advanced technical understanding and rules and regulations understanding of your project and of the industry in general, and to be up to date with current changes

Is your chosen field subject to internal politics that will lead to conflict? Not necessarily. It doesnt interact exclusively with politics, although this is definitely somewhat present in international projects or projects that carry a sensitive nature, especially to a country that may not be an ally to the country one represents or is working in

Is there any way to change the politics or to perhaps defuse your involvement in potential disputes? Yes. One has to ensure that they are up to date with rules and regulations of other countries that they may potentially interact with, and especially countries whose restrictions differ greatly to those of the country you are working in One has to ensure that their projects do not poorly reflect on other countries especially at a time of tension.

How might the economy negatively affect your future company and your work group? The TV and Film Industry is heavily reliant on the economy. A drop in economy may drastically affect advancement into future roles However, unless there is a significant drop in the global economy, the TV and Film Industry is extremely flexible if one is prepared to work in other countries Will your future company provide enough access to new challenges to keep you sharp -- and marketable -- in the event of sudden unemployment? This is dependent on the company. However, one can always undertake individual projects to showcase themselves even internationally. The TV and Film Industry has a lot of professionals who cross over to other disciplines in the industry. A loss of job, though a step back doesnt necessarily cut one off from other opportunities the industry offers
