Finally, summer is upon us, the farmers are in the fields (albeit late), and gardens are planted and growing. It has been a challenging spring to be sure! So, now is the time to get your outdoor pro- jects organized and underway. Perhaps you are staining the deck, landscaping the yard, or con- templating a new roof. The good news is that when you improve your home, you make living in our central Iowa communities better for us all.. Upcoming there will be town festivals, especially Alden Days, family vacations, barbecues, rag- brai, July 4th, and a host of events throughout Iowa to make a day or week of. And then there is the pool! Make plans to recreate in your own unique fashion, and reconnect with family and friends. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so get busy living life with those you love! On a more pertinent note, I have noticed that much is being done to cleanup the town of Alden. City wide cleanup days were a big success as over 100 people donated to the landfill. Can you im- agine what this town would look like in a few years if this FREE service were not provided by the city? A big thank you goes out to our council and city workers who organize and help at this an- nual event. AND, if you cleaned up a bit, thank you too! We are all better for it! CELEBRATING SUMMER...

Finally, summer is upon us, the farmers are in the fields (albeit late), and gardens are planted and

growing. It has been a challenging spring to be sure! So, now is the time to get your outdoor pro-

friends. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so get busy living life with those you love!

On a more pertinent note, I have noticed that much is being done to cleanup the town of Alden.

Thomas announces retirement from Hilltop Village Management

Betty Thomas, the long time manager of Hilltop Village announced that she will be retir-

Alden School News

What a great school year! Thank you to everyone in the community who supported the school. We appreciate those who came in to speak about their careers, got our students excited for the week as a Monday Motivator, attended our concerts and events, provid-ed monetary support, or volunteered in another way. It takes a village to raise our kids and we appreciate the partnership.

We continue to have The Alden Wish List. We have been very fortunate to have many generous donations that have helped fund projects that have benefited our students. Classrooms have added flexible seating, board games to help with math and reading skills, technology, and the opportunity to publish their own books. There are current projects posted at https://sites.google.com/a/ifacadets.net/alden-wish-list/home if you are interested in donating, or you may contact the school. Thank you for your sup-port of our students!

We have many events going on at school and want to share them with you. One way to stay informed is to “Like” the Alden Elementary School page on Facebook. This is a new page, so we hope you will find us. We also have students who are posting things that are happening at our school on Twitter.

You can follow @AldenElementary, #Aldenpride, or #IFACadetPride.

Here are some important dates for the fall:

• August 21: Orientation Night from 5:00-6:00 PM

• August 23: First Day of School for K-6 students

• September 12: Alden Fall Picture Day

• October 23: No School for Teacher Professional Development

November 4 and 7: Early Dismissal for Parent/Teacher Conferences
