WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR PARKING LOT WORSHIP SERVICES
PARKING LOT SERVICES 8/23 WITH PASTOR TAMMY
• Please use the East parking lot.
• To maintain proper social distancing, each family should use a parking spot with a red “x”. Leave the unmarked spaces empty.
• Feel free to bring lawn chairs to sit in your chosen space, but please park your cars at the very back of the lot.
• You may stay in your car if you choose but try and use the parking spaces on the back edge of the parking lot so you aren’t parked in front of lawn chairs.
• Entrance to the church building is restricted. If you have an emergency though, we will open what is necessary!!
• Paper programs will be available, please take these home and dispose of them there.
• A designated spot for offering will be made available. August 23rd is designated NOISY OFFERING SUNDAY! Collections of Noisy Offering are given to Food Shelf.
• Please bring your own face mask, but if needed, we have disposable ones available.

Dear Sverdrup members,
I have had this article taped on the wall by my desk since 2010 when myfriend sent it to me. Never have we needed to think about what theauthor says more than now. The third paragraph begins with “Has itever occurred to you that nothing occurs to God?” Think about that, itdoesn’t exactly fall in line with the way we humans think. I hope thisarticle brings you confidence that we are in good hands and things willwork out!
I also want to update you on our efforts to get back into the church toworship. We have different groups studying and trying to understandthe ever-evolving world of mandates, recommendations, and levels ofcomfort our members have. There are no easy answers, but we willpress on. At this time, we are going to be ready to come back to thesanctuary by mid-September but will stay outside as long as weatherallows.
One last item, please remember the church and your giving. While weare financially sound, we are falling behind budget about $1000.00 permonth.
Thank you for being part of the “Sverdrup family”, hopefully soon wecan be back together.

SVERDRUP LUTHERAN CHURCH - RESUMING INDOOR SERVICES
FROM YOUR CHURCH COUNCIL
• Masks are Mandatory for ages 5 and up to 150.
• Distancing – Church Pews will be roped off in areas where you are not to sit.
• No passing the plate, sharing the peace, or shaking hands. (not to worry,
there will be a basket in the back of the church so you can share your financial
gifts.)
• Only use the East &/or the West doors.
• Pastor Tammy will be greeting you outside.
• You will be ushered out after church. Please do not stay inside to visit. As
Minnesota Nice people we like to visit, so we need to move outside to do this.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
JUST A LITTLE REMINDERSverdrup Lutheran is happy to allow our congregationmembers to reserve some of our extra tables andfolding chairs for their special occasions. All requests forthis are made to Tereasa and the sign out formcompleted – no tables or chairs should leave thebuilding without prior approval from the office.
The sign-out form is on a clip board in the large storageroom, where the tables and chairs are kept. Pleaseindicate the # of tables and chairs desired, the date(s) ofuse and expected date of return and give the form toTereasa (or call, or email your request). Please note, wedon’t allow the Fellowship Hall and SS chairs and tablesto be used outside of church.
Reservations are made on a first-come, first-serve basis;so be sure and notify the church office if your planschange.

them to purchase supplies

Calling volunteers!
The Community Food Shelf in Fergus Falls is seeking
volunteers to work Mon-Wed-Fri from
1:30 pm to 4:30 pm each week. The work includes
bagging and curb-side pick up only – the public does not enter the building. Please consider this need as this Food Shelf serves 30-40
families each day it is open. Contact Carolyn Glesne at 218-205-5429 if you are
comfortable as a volunteer or can donate to this mission
work.

WELCA CANCELLED OR POSTPONED EVENTS
•WELCA will not be serving our annual hot-dish dinnerduring Underwood Harvest Festival. COVID19 restrictionsare in place. We are postponing this till 2021.
• Annual Fall Bazaar and Lefse Sale will not be held (generally the first Saturday in October). COVID19restrictions are in place. We are postponing this till 2021.
• Conference #7 Fall Gathering (WELCA) has been cancelledby the Synod.

ANSWERS TO WHICH CAME FIRST
A. The citrus definitely got named first. The earliest recorded use of orange the fruit inEnglish is from the 1300s. The word's use as a color name doesn't crop up for another 200years, in the early 1500s.
B. Pi as a letter in the Greek alphabet was used from early 8th century BC. If you are referringto the mathematical constant pi it was known even earlier than 20th century BC. Pie as aword is first found in the 12th century English.
C. This depends on who you ask! Scientists sometimes disagree on this but there are manystudies presented that will say the egg came first since chickens evolved after meat eatingdinosaur laid the eggs.
D. Bows date back to well over 10,000 years ago, while swords date to the bronze age (~3500BC).
E. Parasols and umbrellas have been in existence over 3500 years ago while the guitar’s rootscannot be traced back any further than the 15th century.
