AtGentingBerhad,wearecommitted toensureourbusinessespractisegoodcorporategovernanceandobserveresponsiblebusinesspractices.OurworkethicsareguidedbytheGentingCoreValues,namelyHardWork,Honesty,Harmony, Loyalty and Compassion. These simple life principleswere espoused by our beloved Founder, the late Tan Sri LimGoh Tong and by ourChairman andChief Executive Tan Sri LimKok Thay. TheGentingCore Valuescontinuetobetheunderlyingethosinourworkcultureandbusinesspractices.
Over thepast decade,wehave invested in life science andbiotechnology companies that are involved in variousstagesofresearchanddevelopment(“R&D”) fornewtreatmentsandnewwaysto improveourhealthandlifestyle.WeacknowledgethattheinvestmentsinR&Dwithinthemedicalspaceposehigherrisksthanotherinvestmentsastheresultsandsuccessratesareuncertainandthegestationperiodtoanybreakthroughdiscoverycanpotentiallybelong.AlthoughsomecompaniesmayfinditnoteconomicallyviabletoinvestintheseR&Dventures,asaresponsiblecorporation,wearecommittedtofindnewsolutionstoimprovethehealthofmankindandthecommunitythatwelivein.
Our investment in biotechnology has provided a platform to theGenting Plantations team to conduct R&Dwiththe aim to increase yield and productivity of its oil palm estates.Our investments in life science companies suchas TauRx Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Genting TauRx Diagnostics Centre Sdn Bhd support research and clinicaltrials in the on-going fight against Alzheimer’s Disease from the perspective of early diagnosis and treatment. OurinvestmentsinCortechsLabsInc.,DnAeGroupHoldingsLtdandCelularityInc.aimtofindwaystodetectandtreatdiseasesinthefieldsofoncologyandneuro-degeneration.Inthefieldofrenewableenergy,wehaveinvestedinElevanceRenewableSciences,acompanythatutilisesanobelPrizewinningmetathesistechnologytocreatespecialtychemicalsfromnaturaloils.
In conjunction with Genting Founder’s Day 2019, Genting Berhad sponsored a new Dementia Care Centre and co-organisedtheinauguralEminentSpeakersConferenceSeries.
TheDementiaCareCentrewashandedoveron28February2019toamanagementteamledbytheGeriatricdivisionofUniversityofMalaya.Thepurpose-builtcentrebeganoperationon1September2019,providingdaycareservicestopeople suffering fromdementia, and training services tocaregivers, familymembersandprofessionals involvedindementiacare.Thecentre isdesignedtoaccommodateupto50patientsatanyonetimeandisoperatedonacharitablebasis,aspartoftheGentingGroup’scorporatesocialresponsibility.

TheEminentSpeakersConferenceSeriesentitled ‘navigatingTowardsHealthyAgeing’whichwasco-organisedbyGentingBerhadandUniversityofMalaya,washeldonthemorningofGentingFounder’sDayon28February2019.ThreeofthefoureminentspeakersattheconferencewhowereinviteesoftheGentingGrouparefoundersof lifesciencescompaniesthattheGentingGrouphasinvestedinrecentyears.
Our sustainability reporting roadmap is a continuous effort and we acknowledge that there is always room forimprovement.Wehavebeenreportingonthesustainability initiativesofourCompanyandkeysubsidiariesnamelyGenting Energy, GentingMalaysia, Genting Singapore and Genting Plantations over the past years. In this report, we initiatedcoverageonResortsWorldLasVegasonagradualbasis, in linewith theprogressivedevelopmentofitsiconicintegratedresort.Asaresponsiblecorporation,ResortsWorldLasVegashascreatedhundredsofjobsandbecomeoneofnevada’slargestconstructionemployers,contributingpositivelytowardstheeconomicdevelopmentinLasVegas.
Westrivetomeettheongoingchangesinguidelinesandstandardsoflocalandinternationalsustainabilitydisclosures.Wewillcontinuetoworkcloselywithourpartners,associatesandotherstakeholderstoachievethebestforGentingandcontributetowardsthebettermentofourcommunity.

Our prOFiLe
Genting Berhad is principally an investment holding and management company. While the Company was incorporated in 1968 and listed in 1971, theGentingGroupwas founded in 1965when its Founder, the late TanSriLimGohTongstartedthejourneytorealisehisvisionofbuildingamountaintopresortinMalaysia.

Theassessmentassiststodetermineifthe5SustainabilityPillarsandtheirmaterialtopicsontheeconomic,environmentandsocialimpactstoGentingBerhadanditsunlistedsubsidiaryGentingEnergyremainvalidandimportant,astheyformthebasisofthereportingframework.Aslightrefinementwasmadein2019tooneofthematerialtopics,namely“MaintainingLicensetoOperate”wasrenamedto“MaintainingApprovalsandLicensestoOperate”.
In2019, thematerialityassessmentwasextended tocoverResortsWorldLasVegas,awhollyownedsubsidiaryofGenting Berhad. Although ResortsWorld Las Vegas has yet to commence business, we have taken the proactiveapproachtoinitiatethedatacollationprocessusingthecommonreportingframeworkforGentingBerhadandGentingEnergy.Oncebusinesscommences,thereportingapproachforResortsWorldLasVegaswilllikelyprogresstowardthereportingstyleofitssisterresortproperties,namelyResortsWorldSentosaandResortsWorldGenting.
Themateriality assessmentwas conducted in the secondhalf of 2019using survey approach and communicatedthroughshortinterviewsandmeetingdiscussions.
Thesurveyapproachwasundertakenusingascale to rate the importanceof thefive-levelLikertscaleandsurveyrespondents were asked to rate the level of importance of each sustainability topic in the 5 Sustainability Pillars. Thissurveywasdoneonlinein2018buttheresponsereceivedwaslimited.In2019,thesurveyapproachwasconductedviaface-to-facebriefingsanddiscussionswiththeboardofdirectorsandkeyprincipalexecutiveofficers.Theteamalsocommunicatedandreceivedfeedbacksfromheadsofdepartmentswhohaveregularcontactwiththeirstakeholdersandcouldprovide relevant feedback.The responses receivedwerebetter than thepreviousyear’sand re-affirmedthatthe5SustainabilityPillarsanditsmaterialtopicswerevalidandimportantin2019.ItwasnotedthattheboardofdirectorsofGentingBerhadhadviewed11materialtopicsas‘veryimportant’and6as‘important’in2019.

ForourCompanywhichisprincipallyaninvestmentholdingandmanagementcompany,systemefficiencyreferstothebusinesscontinuityofourcorporateofficesbasedinWismaGenting.
Ourinformationtechnology(“IT”)resourcesprovidedailysupportservicestoensurethebusinesssystemsrunsmoothlyandare risk-protected.Theyensure theconnectivity ismaintainedatall timesbetweenGentingemployeesbasedinWismaGentingwithallourofficeselsewhereandwithourstakeholders throughemails,mobileandweb-basedcommunications.Annualsurveyswereconductedtogatherfeedbackfromemployeeusers,coveringofficeautomationtools, the effectiveness and efficiency of IT systems and applications, IT services rendered and the awareness ofcybersecuritythreats.
Asthreatstodatasecurityhavebecomemoreprominentovertheyears,ourITcontrolsareconstantlyreviewedforsystemefficiencyandeffectiveness.Cybersecuritytrainingandawarenessseminarswerealsoconductedin2019fortheITresourcesteamandGentingemployeestobereadyforanypotentialcyberthreatsandhowtodealwithsuchthreats.
Feedbackshaveenabledour IT resources to improve theirbusinessprocessesandupgrade specific IT facilities toprovidequalityandtimelyservices.nomajordowntimeorserviceinterruptionwasreportedin2019.
GentingEnergymanages the systemefficiencyof all of itsoperatingplants. TheBantenpowerplant in Indonesia isequippedwithsupercriticalboilertechnologywhichallowstheplanttoproduceeachmegawatt(“MW”) hourofpowerbyusing lesscoal,hence,moreefficient.The660MWpowerplantproducedover4,447millionkWh4ofelectricity inIndonesiain2019,comparedto4,492millionkWhproducedin2018.Theplanthasachievednearto90%availabilitysincecommercialoperationsbeganinMarch2017.
GentingEnergyisdedicatedtocontinuouslyimproveenergyperformancewhileupholdingworld-classstandardsinthesystemitoperatestoensurequality,safetyandefficiency.WhilemaintainingexistingISOcertifications,theBantenpowerplantsuccessfullyattainedISO50001:2018EnergyManagementSystemcertificationin2019.Thisinternationalaccreditation demonstrates Genting Energy’s commitment towards optimising energy efficiency while improvingenvironmentalaspectsoftheplantoperations.
AtResortsWorldLasVegas,ourdevelopmentteammanagesthecontractorsandsupplierstoensurethecontractedworks are delivered effectively and efficiently and meet all regulatory requirements. Management policies are inplacewithtrainingandoperationalpreparationsprogressingasscheduledtoensureResortsWorldLasVegaswillrunsmoothlyonceitstartsoperations.

A comprehensivenevada casino licensing process has already been undertaken byGenting Berhad, certain of itsdirectorsandkeyofficersandtherelevantsubsidiariesinconnectionwiththedevelopmentandconstructionofResortsWorldLasVegas,includingfindingsofsuitabilityforcertainofficersanddirectorsofGentingBerhadandregistrationofGentingBerhadasapublictradedcorporationbythenevadaGamingCommission.Inaddition,GentingBerhad,therelevantentitiesholdingoroperatinggamingbusinesses,aswellastherelevantdirectorsandseniormanagementhavebeenfoundsuitableand/orarelicensedundergamingregulationsandlawsinseveralotherjurisdictions,includingthegamingregulatoryauthoritiesinSingapore,theBahamasandthenewYorkState.

Weacknowledgethattheworld’snaturalresourcesarebecomingincreasinglyscarceandtheconsequencesofclimatechangehaveintensifiedinrecentyears.Theconsumptionofwaterandenergy,wastemanagementandbiodiversityconservationaresomeoftheenvironmentalconcernsfacedtoday.
Weadvocatethe3Ractionsofreduce,reuseandrecycleatourworkplace.Westrivetoexplorecleanerandmoreefficientwaystoreduceourcarbonfootprintarisingfromourdailyoperations,tocombattheeffectsofclimatechangeand tobe in compliancewith the local environmental regulations including their greenhousegas (GHG)emissionreductiontargets.
Weadoptpreventativemeasurestoconservetheenvironmentandreducepollution.Forexample,GentingMalaysiaprotectsandrestoresabout10,000acresofforestwithinthesurroundsofResortsWorldGentinginGentingHighlandsthat is home to 45 families and 254 species of birds. Other measures include replanting of trees and adoptingsustainable landscaping that focuses on preventing soil erosion and assists in water conservation. In Singapore, GentingSingaporedrives various sustainability initiativesonmarineconservation,wastemanagement including3R(reduce,reuseandrecycle)andenergysavingsonResortsWorldSentosa.GentingSingaporehasalsoinvestedinaBuildingEnergyManagementSystem(BEMS)whichmonitors,recordsandtrendsutilitiesconsumptionofelectricity,water,gasandchilledwaterwithinitsintegratedresort.Thesemeasuresareundertakeneveryyearincludingthisyearofreview.

2)in2019.Themarginaldeclineyear-on-yearwas
mainlyattributabletolowerexportedenergyfromBantenpowerplant.Thiswasduetothegridlimitationasaresultofthegridupgradingworksbythestateutilitycompanyandthereforethecoalconsumptionbythepowerunithasalsoreducedaccordingly.Theplant’savailabilitywasnotaffectedbytheupgradingworks.

At ResortsWorld Las Vegas, our buildings and infrastructure are plannedwith smart technology and eco-friendlyfeatures to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise the environmental impact. Resorts World Las Vegas isseekingLEEDGoldCertification,placingitinoneofthehighestcategoriesofenergyefficiencyintheUnitedStates. OurbuildingsarefittedwithenergysavingLEDlightswhichconsumelessenergythanincandescentbulbsandatthesametimeabletoreducepowercosts.Wehaveinstalledenergyefficientsensorsonstaircaseandcorridorlightings.
Employeesareencouragedtodotheirparttoreduceenergyconsumptionbyswitchingoffofficelightings,computers,air-conditioningandotherelectricalequipmentafterofficehours.Officelightingisequippedwithmotion-detectionthatautomaticallyshutsoffthelightwhentheoccupantisabsentfromtheofficeforaperiodoftime.
During the year of review, regular checks were conducted with our contractors to ensure the machinery and equipment used for the construction works at Resorts World Las Vegas were fuel efficient and caused minimal impacttothesoilandthesurroundingenvironment.noiselevelduringconstructionwascontrolledwithmeasuresundertaken such as shutting down noisy equipment when not needed or substituting with quieter equipment; retro-fittingexistingequipmentwithdampingmaterials,mufflersorenclosures;erectingsoundbarriersandmaintainingtheequipment.

Genting Energy’s Banten power plant is equipped with advanced supercritical technology designed with priorityonoperational efficiency and emissions reduction. It reduces pollution levels by burning less coal permegawatt-hourproduced,capturingthevastmajoringofpollutantsandemittinglessgreenhousegases.Furthermore,Bantenpowerplantisconstructingitscoaldomewhichwillhelptoreducethemoisturecontentofthecoal.Bantenpowerplant’sexistingcleancoaltechnologyanditsnewcoaldomewillresultinamoreefficientcombustionofcoalwith reducedemissions.
TheBantenpowerplanthas alsobeengradedas a ‘GoodEnvironmentally FriendlyCompany’bySerangRegencyMunicipalforthreeconsecutiveyearssince2017,inrecognitionofitsgreeneffortsandbestenvironmentalpractices.The Banten power plant also participates in Indonesia’s Programme for Pollution Control, Evaluation and Rating(PROPER).PROPERisanational-levelpublicenvironmentalreportinginitiative.Itpromotesindustrialcompliancewithpollutioncontrolregulations,facilitatesandenforcestheadoptionofpracticescontributingtocleantechnologyandensuresabetterenvironmentalmanagementsystem.Bantenpowerplantwasrated“blue”inyear2019,whichisthebestratingthatanewparticipantcanachieveinitsfirstthreeyearsofparticipation.

Inaddition,theenergyteamplanted2,000mangrovescovering0.2hectaresurroundingthepowerplantareaaspartoftheMangroveConservationProgramme.Movingforward,GentingEnergywillcontinuetoimproveitsoperationalefficienciesandadopttheindustry’sbestenvironmentalpractices.
TheGroup’sfirstrenewableproject,JangiwindfarminIndiareliesonlyonnaturalwindpowertogenerateelectricity.Itdoesnotproduceatmosphericemissions thatcauseacid rain, smogorgreenhousegases. Jangiwind farmhasproducedover1,820GWh7(over230GWhin2019)ofcleanenergysinceitsinception,therebycontributingtowardstheGovernmentof India’scleanenergyprogramme.Thisamountwasequivalenttotheelectricityconsumptionofmorethan195,0008residentsinIndiaforayear.
JangiwindfarmisregisteredwithUnitednationsFrameworkConventiononClimateChange(UnFCCC)underCleanDevelopmentMechanism (CDM). CDM stimulates sustainable development and emission reductions, while givingindustrialisedcountriessomeflexibilityinhowtheymeettheiremissionreductionorlimitationtargets.UnderCDM,emission-reduction projects in developing countries can earn saleable certified emission reduction (CER) credit. ThissealablecreditcanbeusedbyindustrialisedcountriestomeetapartoftheiremissionreductiontargetsundertheKyotoProtocol.
ResortsWorldLasVegas iscommitted to reduceenvironmental impactandgreenhousegasemissions,evenat itscurrentdevelopmentphase.Althoughcertificationsareyettobeobtainedongreenbuildingasconstructionsarestillunderway,eco-friendlyfeaturesarebeingincorporatedintotheinfrastructureandbuildingdevelopmentoftheresort.Thesefeaturesincludeprocuringair-conditioningandrefrigerationequipmentthatareeco-friendlyanddonotusehydrochlorofluorocarbons(HCFCs)asrefrigerant,oneofthemaincontributorstothedepletionoftheozonelayer.Therewillberegularinspectionsandmaintenanceoftheseelectricalapplianceandequipmenttopreventandreduceanyleakages.AerosolproductsthatuseHCFCsorchlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)aspropellantswillbeavoided.
ResortsWorldLasVegaswillhaveoutdoorareastoallownaturallightingintothebuildingtoreducetheuseoflightingduring day time. Trees, grass andmosswill be planted around the resort to serve as a natural thermal insulation. Wehavesavedandnurturedover300treesoftheoriginaltreesfoundontheconstructionsite,asignificantpercentageofwhichwillbere-plantedinthesurroundsofResortsWorldLasVegas.

effluents And wasteThemanagementofeffluentsandwasteplaysavitalpartinaneffectiveenvironmentalstewardship.
AtGentingEnergy,thewastewatereffluentsarelargelyattributedtotheBantenpowerplantwhichdrawsseawaterfor itsoperations.All theeffluentsaretreatedtomeethighestapplicableregulatoryrequirements in therespectivecountriesofoperationpriortodischarge.GentingEnergygenerated882.5millionm3ofwastewatereffluentsin2019,comparedto868.6m3millionin2018.
GentingEnergyhasaproperwastemanagementpolicyforthetreatment,storageanddisposalofhazardousandnon-hazardouswastes.Thehazardouswastesareproperlystoredandhandledbyauthorisedvendorsforproperdisposalorsubsequentusage.non-hazardouswastesarereusedorrecycledwherepossible.
In 2019, Genting Energy generated 69,009 tonnes of industrial wastes, or 19.7% lower than the industrial wastesgeneratedin2018.Theseindustrialwastesmainlyconsistofflyingash,bottomash,glasswool,usedoilsandexpiredchemicals.Thelesserwastesin2019weremainlyattributabletotheBantenpowerplantasitreceivedhigherqualitycoalwith less ash content aswell as lesser diesel consumed for start-uppurpose.On top, zerodrilling fluid as a resultofzerodrillingactivityfromourChina’sproducingassetsin2019alsocontributedtotheoveralllowerindustrialwastesgenerated.
AtResortsWorldLasVegas,awastemanagementplanisinplacefortheproperhandlingofcurrenthazardousand non-hazardouswasteduringtheconstructionphasegeneratedfromtheongoingconstructionworks,aswellaswhentheresortopens.Contractorshiredtomanagethedisposalofwastesaremonitoredandcontrolledbythedevelopmentteam.Themanagementplanincludestherecyclingofground-waterandnon-hazardouswaste,wherepossible.

Wearepractisingandconstantlylookingatwaystominimisewaterconsumptioninouroperationsandworkplace.Forexample,GentingEnergyteamattheBantenpowerplantrecordsandmonitorsitsusageofdemineralisedwater,servicewaterandportablewateronadailybasis toavoidwastageand inefficiency inwaterusage. In thecaseofabnormalwaterusage reading, investigationswill be carriedout and rectified accordingly.GentingEnergy’swaterconsumptiondatafortheBantenpowerplantwasdisclosedunderthe“EffluentsAndWaste”section.
AtResortsWorldLasVegas,theprocurementprocessonbuildingfittingssuchasshowerheadsforhotelbathrooms,water taps and exterior garden sprinklers, takes into consideration eco-friendly features that can lower waterconsumption.Werecognisetheneedforourunlistedprincipalsubsidiariestoreporttheirwaterconservationeffortswithsupportingdata.WeplantostartthecollationofwaterconsumptiondatafortheCompany,GentingEnergyandResortsWorldusing2020asthebaseyear.

Weaimtoprocureproductsandservicesinthemostcosteffectiveandefficientmannerwithenvironmentalsustainabilityandcommunityinterestaspartofthekeyconsiderations.Thesuppliersweworkwithmustmeetstandardsofethicsandbusinessintegrityonbothsocialandenvironmentalcriteria.Ourprocurementresourcesprioritiseminimisingsuchrisksinthesupplychainandencourageourbusinesspartnerstomakecontinuousimprovementtowardssustainablebusinessconduct.

ResortsWorldLasVegasadherestostrictprocurementpracticesandallsuppliersmustobtainapprovalinaccordancewiththenevadaGamingCommission.Itssupplychaincomprisesprimarilylocalvendorsforthepurposeofeconomicempowermentofthecommunityintermsofincreasedemploymentratesandrevenue.Thedataofitssuppliersarebeingcompiledandwillbesharedinsubsequentreporting.
Ourlistedoperatingsubsidiaries,duetotheirnatureofbusiness,havesignificantnumberofvendorscomparedtoourCompanyandunlistedoperatingsubsidiaries.

The handover of the Dementia Care Centre to the management team of the Geriatric Division, University of Malaya
The non-profit Dementia Care Centre, sponsored by Genting Berhad and led by the Geriatric division of University ofMalaya, is purpose-built and offers day care services to people suffering from dementia, as well as provides training tocaregivers, family members and professionals in dementia care. On 1st of September 2019, it started operating with 7patientsandthenumberofpatientsisexpectedtoincreaseovertime.

2019 Group Study Trip to Cambodia
Since 2009, the establishment ofUniversitiMalaya-Tan Sri (Dr) LimGoh Tong Endowment Fund byGenting Berhad andUniversiti Malayawith a seed capital of RM1million, has benefitted over 2,500 students by providing annual funding to students fromtheFacultyofBusiness&Accountancyonscholarshipsandsponsorships for internationaleducationalandresearch-based programmes. A total of RM50,000 from the endowment fund’s dividend income was used in 2019 to sponsoragroupstudytriptoCambodiaandstudentexchangeprogrammesbenefitting24students.
