Genie Industries was founded in 1966 when Bud Bushnell bought the manufacturing rights to a material lift that operated on compressed air. This expanding axle design revolutionized the mechanism for extending and retracting the axles on Genie booms to and from the stowed position. The Genie X-Chassis feature combines outstanding sta-

bility with the flexibility for easy transport.Active Oscillating Axles

This feature allows op-erators using Genie booms to safely maintain contact with the ground on uneven and undulating surfaces, enabling the unit to re-tain maximum power and torque.

Genie also set new stan-dards in the industry for many products and tech-nologies that have become widely adopted in the last 50 years, including dual parallelogram, rotating, ful-

ly articulating and extend-ing jibs, true crab steering and the TraX track drive system.

The dual parallelogram lift linkage allows Genie Z-boom operators to verti-cally track walls by sim-ply raising or lowering the secondary boom without needing to re-position the machine.

The markets first rotat-ing jib was pioneered on the Genie Z-30/20 boom lift. This feature is still used on several Genie products today.

Fully articulating jibs were first introduced on early Genie S-60 telescop-ic boom models. Before the advent of this feature, jibs were only able to be articu-lated parallel with the main boom. With the fully artic-ulating feature, operators are able to articulate the jib above the boom and get in, up and behind objects quickly and easy.

True crab steering was first pioneered on the Ge-nie S-125 telescopic boom to eliminate hydraulically or mechanically linking

the left and right tires with only basic steering geom-etry. By independently driving each tire, operators can (thru the use of angle sensors) do basic steering geometry, steer all the tires the same angle one direc-tion (crab steering) and do four-wheel steering.

Genie was the first to bring the four-point TraX track drive system to the industry as a way to pro-vide increased terrainabil-ity and lower contact pres-sure for reduced damage to sensitive ground surfaces on aerial products such as the companys Z- and S-booms.

And, according to Allen, the company has no plans to slow down its progress in Building the Future. Weve got brand-new ideas being thought of to-day that well be turning into reality within the next two years. We never stop moving forward we keep taking our custom-ers and their businesses higher. Once complete, Pem-bina will have four pipe-lines in the Fox Creek to Namao corridor, with an initial total design capac-ity across the Companys Peace and Northern sys-

tems of approximately 900,000 barrels per day that can be further ex-panded through the addi-tion of pump stations to reach an ultimate capacity of approximately 1.2 mil-lion barrels per day. Each of the four pipelines will transport different prod-ucts (crude oil, conden-sate, propane-plus and ethane-plus) creating op-timal flexibility for Pembi-nas customers. The con-struction of the Fox Creek to Namao Pipelines repre-sents a significant portion of the overall Phase III Ex-pansion program.

recent NGL, crude oil and condensate Phase II Expan-sion that went into service in 2015, concluded Mr. Murphy.

Overall, the project is tracking on time and under budget and the Company continues to anticipate an in service date of mid-2017 for the entire Phase III Ex-pansion program.

The Forest Products As-sociation of Canada (FPAC) is pleased to see todays federal budget put strong emphasis on climate change initiatives, innovation and research and development.

The budget tabled by the Minister of Finance, Bill Morneau, included a $1 billion fund over four years to support clean technol-ogy for the forest sector as well as other resource in-dustries. The budget is also heavily investing in climate change and clean technol-ogy initiatives including $2 billion over two years for a Low Carbon Economy Fund and $40 million to integrate climate resilient changes to building codes.

Minister Morneau said that forestry is a good ex-ample of a sector where the government can help to fa-cilitate the shift to a cleaner economy and ensure good jobs in rural areas.

change. We are producing an array of new innovative bio-products that can replace materials made from carbon-intensive fossil fuels, says the CEO of FPAC, Derek Nigh-bor. On this International Days of Forests, the For-est Products Association of Canada (FPAC) is pleased to note that as a supplier of forest products, Canada comes out as number one in the world in terms of en-vironmental practices and reputation among interna-tional customers.

A study undertaken late in 2015 by Leger the Re-

search Intelligence Group asked international buyers of wood, pulp and paper in the United States, Europe and Asia about their per-ceptions of forest products and environmental issues. (fpac.ca/leger) The results are comparable to a similar survey done by Leger two years ago.

Once again the Canadi-an forest products industry

is getting top marks when it comes to our environ-mental credentials, says Derek Nighbor, the CEO of FPAC. Our sector has worked hard to reduce our environmental footprint and we are committed to continual improvement. This survey shows interna-tional customers feel confi-dent when they source for-est products from Canada.

The customers surveyed said they appreciate Ca-nadian forest products be-cause of their quality and sustainability, with the most positively perceived attributes related to assur-ance of legality and forest management practices.

The majority of pur-chasers also said that forest certifications are important when it comes to choosing forest products. Canada is a world leader in forest certification an indepen-dent assessment that forest companies follow progres-sive environmental and social forest management practices. In 2015, Canada had 166 million hectares of certified forests, about 40% of the world total or almost four times more than any other country. b

Husky Energy has com-menced production at its Edam East Lloyd Thermal Project in Saskatchewan, the first of three thermal developments scheduled to come online this year.

First oil at the 10,000 barrels per day (bbls/day) development was achieved about seven weeks follow-ing the startup of steaming operations.

Our growing portfo-lio of heavy oil thermal projects continues to lead Huskys transition into a low sustaining capital business, said CEO Asim Ghosh. Edam East is an-other example of the quick ramp ups that weve come to expect from these devel-opments, which have op-erating costs amongst the lowest in the industry.

Huskys operating costs for its Lloyd thermal product line averaged about $7 per barrel, including energy, in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Two additional Lloyd thermal projects are ex-

pected to begin produc-tion in the third quarter: the 10,000 bbls/day Vawn project and the 4,500 bbls/day Edam West project. Huskys total thermal pro-duction is expected to reach approximately 80,000 bbls/day by the end of 2016.

Huskys thermal proj-ects are supported by the Lloyd Value Chain, which

originates with the Com-panys extensive resource in the Lloyd area and in-cludes the Saskatchewan Gathering System, the Up-grader and asphalt refin-ery, and oil storage capac-ity at Hardisty.

Utilizing the JDLink Dashboard, John Deere customers will see the most important metrics up front, in a visually compelling manner. These metrics in-clude red alerts, machines with zero hours, machines with the highest idle, and machines that are being

over or underutilized. One of the most excit-

ing features of the JDLink Dashboard is a new equip-ment maintenance man-agement tool named Main-tenance Manager. It lets users quickly and easily set up factory or custom plans using either engine-hour or calendar-based service in-tervals. Maintenance Man-ager makes tracking main-tenance significantly more convenient for equipment managers.

Customers can access the JDLink Dashboard us-ing web browsers, tablets and smart phones. With

an overall goal of increased productivity and efficiency, the JDLink Dashboard will continue to evolve. More specific machine data found today in the exist-ing JDLink interface will be added in future updates along with new and im-proved tools that deliver on customer needs.

The debut of the JDLink Dashboard also introduces construction professionals to the MyJohnDeere web portal. On one web page with one set of login cre-dentials, the MyJohnDeere web portal provides cus-tomers access to multiple John Deere applications in addition to the JDLink Dashboard, such as JD-Parts, TimberNavi and John Deere Financial. b

John Deere Unveils JDLink Dashboard For Customers


The Minister of En-vironment and Climate Change, Catherine McK-enna, marked Earth Day on April 22 by attending the Paris Agreement sign-ing ceremony at the Unit-ed Nations in New York alongside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, when Canada and other coun-tries formally accepted the Agreement, adopted last December.

On Earth Day, Canadi-ans also saw the launch of a new interactive website to seek input from Canadi-ans, including Indigenous peoples, on how to ad-dress climate change and promote clean growth.

This engagement tool will allow Canadians to be part of a national conversation on climate change, share their ideas and see what others are saying. This is an op-portunity to provide feedback on what indi-viduals, families, orga-nizations, communities, businesses and govern-

ments can do to reduce greenhouse gas emis-sions and adapt to cli-mate change.

Engaging the public is an essential part of devel-oping a Canadian plan on clean growth and climate change, and builds on the Vancouver Declaration adopted by First Ministers at their meeting on March 3, 2016.

Contributions received via the interactive website will be reviewed by mem-bers of the four different working groups that have been created to provide recommendations to First Ministers on:how and where to re-

duce emissions ideas for new innova-

tion, technology and job creation

how to put a price on carbon

preparing for the im-pacts of climate changeCanadians are encour-

aged to submit ideas on-line by June 1, 2016, in order for them to be re-

viewed by working group members. However, it should be noted that the Government of Canada will continue to accept ideas after this date.

Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas today announced at the BAUMA 2016 international construc-tion expo the addition of two new models to its HX Series of Tier 4 Final-compliant hydraulic excavators the HX160L and HX180L.

At 16 metric tons and 18 metric tons, these two machines meet the needs of customers in two of the most popular size classes for crawler excavators. They join a family of nine other HX excavators Hyun-dai began introducing in

2015 to U.S. and Canadian markets.

Like other models in the HX product line, the new Hyundai HX160L and HX180L excavators pro-vide up to 10-percent bet-ter fuel economy and 5-per-cent increased productivity compared with previous models. Both the HX160L and HX180L are powered by Perkins 1204E Tier 4 Fi-nal engines rated at 128 net hp (96 kW).

The HX160L excavator is rated as a 16-metric ton model, with an operating

weight of 40,680 lb (18 450 kg). The 18-metric ton-rated Hyundai HX180L excavator has an operating weight of 42,882 lb (19 450 kg).

The standard, high-end features of the new Hyun-dai HX160L and HX180L excavators are designed to meet and exceed the needs of contractors looking for the best available combi-nation of performance, re-liability, control and com-fort, said Corey Rogers, marketing manager, Hyun-dai Construction Equip-ment Americas.

The operators cab in each new HX excavator model includes as standard equipment an 8-inch (20.3-cm) interactive, adjustable, touchscreen cluster-moni-tor with haptic remote con-trol, providing easier oper-ator accessibility and better ergonomics. The haptic re-mote control delivers reac-tive, tactile sensations us-ing vibrations and pulses to guide the operator through menu selections.

Viewable on the moni-tor is the Hyundai-exclusive AAVM or All-Around View Monitoring an optional system that provides a 360 surround virtual operating view. Included in AAVM is the IMOD (Intelligent Mov-ing Object Detection) system that senses and warns the operator when objects come within 16.5 feet (5 m) of the machine. The AAVM sys-tem helps make the Hyundai HX series among the safest excavators to operate on any jobsite in North America.

The cab on the HX160L and HX180L excavators is 13-percent roomier that prior models and features enhanced climate-control, more leg and foot space from the seat to the pedals, reduced in-cab sound level, heated operators seat with

standard air suspension and integrated console. Ad-ditional features include a Bluetooth audio system and Miracast wireless func-tionality for viewing a mo-bile device screen on the monitor.

Hydraulic system en-hancements on the HX160L and HX180L excavators in-clude an innovative Boom Float mode for better grad-ing control, Fine Swing mode for improved load control when swinging, and up to 13-percent faster cycle speeds than previ-ous models. Both models also feature IPC (Intelligent Power Control) computer-aided power optimization based on load demand, and Eco Breaker mode for selectable pump flow and improved fuel consump-tion when working with Hyundai hydraulic break-ers and many other attach-ments. The combination of faster cycle times and more power results in productiv-ity increases of up to 5 per-cent.

Enhanced reliability fea-tures on the HX series in-clude reinforced longer-life pins and bushings coupled with wear-resistant poly-mer shims and newly de-signed cab shock mounts

with dual shock absorption for reduced vibration and noise and improved op-erator comfort. Serviceabil-ity enhancements include ground-level access to the fuel filter and convenient exterior access to the cab air filter. Additional guard rails provide greater safety while performing mainte-nance and inspections on the upper structure deck.

New Tier 4 Final en-gine technologies, a more efficient vertically stacked cooling design, efficient electronic fan clutch, and hydraulic system innova-tions on the Hyundai HX series excavators contrib-ute to an overall fuel effi-ciency improvement of up to 10 percent compared with previous models.

The Hyundai HX160L and HX180L excavators are protected by Hyundais industry-leading three-year, 3,000-hour standard warranty and five-year, 5,000-hour structural war-ranty. Hyundai also in-cludes three years of free access to its Hi-Mate re-mote management system which provides a variety of remote monitoring and di-agnostic services. b
