Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas to-day introduced the Hyun-dai HL940TM wheel load-er, the newest addition to its HL900 series of Tier 4 Final-compliant wheel loaders. The HL940TM joins a family of five oth-er Hyundai HL900 wheel loader models the compa-ny introduced in 2015 to U.S. and Canadian mar-kets.

As the first Tool Mas-ter model to join the HL900 series lineup, the HL940TM features Hyun-dais Tool Master boom design, with dual link-age for increased lifting capacity, improved load stability, rapid dumping capability and enhanced visibility. The HL940TM comes equipped with a standard 3.0 yd3 (2.3 m3) bucket, and delivers 23,880 lbf (10 830 kgf) of bucket breakout force. A Cummins QSB6.7 Tier 4 Final engine rated at 156

net hp (116 kW) powers the HL940TM. Accurate onboard weighing system is standard

Like other Hyundai HL900 series wheel load-er models, this first Tool Master model includes Hyundais proprietary onboard weighing sys-tem, with is accurate to +/- 1%. The system has automatic and manual settings for monitoring individual and cumula-tive bucket load weights. System measurements are displayed on the multi-function screen in the cab, providing reliable load-weight monitoring to support efficient produc-tion management. How-ever, there is no onboard printer to facilitate certi-fied load measurements.Productivity and fuel economy among key upgrades

continue the Hyundai wheel loader tradition of power, productivity and ease of operation, while adding new creature com-forts, productivity en-hancements and additional efficiencies that make these machines quality leaders in the market, said Corey Rogers, marketing manag-er, Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas.

The Hyundai HL940TM wheel loader, like other HL900 series models, deliv-ers up to 5-percent greater productivity and 10-per-cent lower fuel consump-tion than previous 9A se-ries models. HL900 series loaders achieve greater fuel economy as a result of such features as Hyundais Eco Pedal, programmable auto-engine shutdown (avail-able with the smart key op-tion) and Eco Gauge. Improved cab design

The large, quiet cab on the HL940TM wheel loader includes a seven-inch (178 mm) interactive touch-screen monitor, enhanced climate control, fully ad-justable and heated air-ride seat, centralized control switches and significant in-cab sound reduction. The cab has been reconfigured for additional floor space

and improved visibility. For added operator comfort, in-cab sound levels were re-duced by 3 dB, making this one of the quietest cabs in the industry. An optional Smart Start ignition system for password- or Bluetooth key-enabled machine start is also available on the HL900 series machines.

Ergonomically posi-tioned operator switches, controls and other features make it easier to quickly access critical functions. The touchscreen moni-tor includes a speed-limit control, and an improved rearview camera delivers higher resolution and en-hanced nighttime visibility. Industry-leading warran-ties

The Hyundai HL940TM is protected by Hyundais industry-leading three-year, 3,000-hour standard warranty and five-year, 5,000-hour structural war-ranty. Hyundai also in-cludes three years of free access to its Hi-Mate re-mote management system which provides a variety of remote monitoring and diagnostic services.

SmartGrade crawler dozer is improving jobsite accuracy and quality of work through its complete integration of the Topcon 3D-MC2 Grade Control System. The system is fully integrated into the machine cabin, structures, and software delivering precise grading performance while eliminating vulnerable external masts and cables.

By combining the power of Topcon technol-ogy with the John Deere track load sensing system, the SmartGrade dozer of-fers an easy to setup, highly productive grading machine intended for road building, site development and resi-dential building customers, said Liz Quinn, product marketing manager, John Deere WorkSight. The 700K SmartGrade dozer is a purpose-built machine that is ready to work the moment it leaves the dealership, and the complete system is sold and fully supported by the world-class John Deere deal-er network.

The SmartGrade tech-nology enables operators to be more productive on the jobsite. Because Smart-Grade is integrated into the 130 hp 700K, it removes the need to install equip-ment daily, reducing setup time. Eliminating external cables to the masts reduces breakage, and the removal of the masts from the blade eliminates vulnerability to damage and theft.

The Auto SmartGrade feature allows the operator to easily adjust the system when moving the machine from one soil type to an-other, unlike an after-mar-ket system, which often requires the GPS manager to make a trip to the ma-chine to recalibrate the system. Especially help-ful to new operators, Auto SmartGrade automatically lifts the blade over heavy loads before track slippage occurs, then returns the blade to grade. SmartGrade also limits the number of passes required, reducing the pace of wear on the un-

dercarriage.Machine dimensions are

preloaded into the grade control monitor, reducing the time required to cali-brate the dozer to about 30 minutes. Additionally, the easy-to-use system is ben-eficial to new operators in that it can get them up and running quickly.

Since the 700K Smart-Grade dozer is sold and supported by John Deere, customers can work through their dealer and John Deere Financial to finance their SmartGrade machine and Topcon base stations and rovers, help-ing to maintain cash flow. The overall return on in-vestment of the Topcon 3D-MC2 Grade Control System is proven in the after-market industry, and the 700K SmartGrade dozer can pay back its purchase price in one to two jobs.

Producers can aggres-sively manage heavy crop residue and soils with the new True-Tandem 335 Barracuda vertical tillage tool from Case IH. Built on proven Agronomic De-sign principles, this rugged addition to the industry-leading Case IH vertical tillage line-up quickly cuts, incorporates and evenly distributes the most stub-born crop residue up to 4 inches deep. This creates the potential for a blacker surface finish and an in-crease in nutrient cycling for the next crop.

We developed the new True-Tandem 335 Barracu-da to help producers more productively manage the record-breaking amounts of residue associated with new, high-yielding crop ge-netics especially hybrids developed for standability with tougher stalks, said Chris Lursen, Case IH till-age marketing manager. Thanks to the industry-exclusive serrated blades engineered with Earth

Metal and greater concav-ity than most other vertical tillage blades on the mar-ket, the Barracuda easily slices through tough resi-due, uproots root balls and levels out the soil to create the ideal environment for residue breakdown and seedling development.

Capable of cutting up to 4 inches deep, the new 22-inch Earth Metal Barra-cuda blades help producers reach deeper depths and achieve a smooth field fin-ish, while covering acres quickly. The blades pen-etrate hard, dry soils and break through surface com-paction layers to promote soil movement and uni-form density. New chisel-tipped serrations allow the blades to retain sharpness and durability, even under tough field conditions.

As the chisel-tipped teeth wear, the valley be-tween each tip stays sharp, retaining the cutting edge and extending the blades lifetime, said Lursen.

Yanmar Museum has received the Sustainable Building Award from the Japanese Institute for Build-ing Environment and Energy Conservation (IBEC).

This award is granted to outstanding pieces of archi-tecture, that also contribute significantly to environment preservation by way of energy conservation and reduced en-vironmental impact and low carbon emissions. These envi-ronmental contributions were made possible owing to the fruitful collaboration among the three enterprises involved in the design, building and own-ership of the Museum.

In addition, the Museum received high evaluation for successfully merging Yan-mars corporate values into the core concepts of environ-mental preservation and re-source recycling technologies. The ingenious design of the building provides an interac-tive, family-friendly environ-ment, where children can learn and community ties can be strengthened.

vironmental preservation by reducing emissions and conserving energy, Yanmar will continue to deliver high quality products that sub-stantially contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

New dual-entry and tri-entry baskets allow walk-in access to the boom plat-form.

Genie has simplified the way operators enter and exit its boom platforms. New platform baskets for Genie boom lifts offer three entry points on an 8-ft bas-ket or two entry points on a 6-ft basket to enhance

operators mobility. The side swing gate allows for walk-in access to and from the basket when operators are wearing a tool belt, car-rying a tool box or need-ing to load materials in the platform. Sliding mid-rails, engineered into the front and sides of the platform, offer alternative entry and exit points to accommodate

changing worksite condi-tions.

All entry points are spe-cifically designed to help an operator easily get in and out of the basket, with tools and jobsite materi-als, from pressure washers and painting supplies to light fixtures and window glazings, quickly and ef-ficiently. Genie offers the dual-entry basket in a 6-ft platform length for its com-pact booms and a tri-entry 8-ft platform length for its larger models. Genie also engineered these new bas-kets with eight lanyard at-

tachment points to give operators the freedom to work anywhere on the platform. And, these bas-kets design meets industry expectations for a spacious, robust workspace.

Utilizing proven design technology, Genie manu-factures these new plat-forms with all-steel materi-als that cannot break down or become compromised with repeated use. Opera-tors can also easily unbolt and replace the platform floor as needed. All of these improvements were made to the new Genie platform

baskets without adding weight to the machine or sacrificing basket capacity.

The new dual-entry and tri-entry baskets can be used on any Genie boom that can be equipped with a 6-ft or 8-ft basket so rental store owners can ret-rofit their existing fleet to accommodate customers demand for these features. These new multi-entry bas-kets are compatible with most Genie accessories and options, including pipe cra-dles, panel cradles and fall arrest bars, so rental store owners can also utilize

existing equipment inven-tory to increase their rental return on invested capital (rROIC).

Tigercat S855D and LS855D shovel loggers are released with Tigercat FTP Tier 4 power for North American market.

Tigercat has released the D-series shovel loggers in North America. Operating at 210 kW (282 hp), the Ti-gercat FPT powered S855D and LS855D meet Tier 4 emission requirements. Tigercat FPT engines offer improved reliability and lower long-term mainte-nance costs. Best of all, the engines are fully supported by Tigercat and the Tiger-cat dealer network. Tiger-cat will continue to offer the C-series shovel loggers in South America, Austra-lia and New Zealand.

The S855D series shovel loggers are a uniquely versa-tile solution for steep slope and sensitive site logging ap-plications. The LS855D is a quick, nimble and powerful carrier well suited to fell-ing, pre-bunching and shov-el logging on steep terrain. The LS855D is commonly equipped with a feller direc-

tor boom and the Tigercat 5195 directional felling head for felling and shovel log-ging.

Alternatively the carri-ers can be equipped with a live heel boom system and grapple for pure shovel log-ging. Along with the high flotation undercarriage, this is an excellent configu-ration for southern US style log mat-based lowland log-ging applications.

With the patented Tiger-cat ER boom and energy recovery swing system, the S855D series shovel loggers can cost effectively forward wood to roadside in steep or wet soil conditions up to distances of 80-100 m (260-330 ft). A shovel logger can be strategically located in challenging parts of the cut block to forward trees to the skidder or fell and bunch for a yarding system.

Unlike excavator-based shovel loggers with add-on forestry packages, the S855D and LS855D are purpose-built for heavy duty forestry applications.

The efficient hydraulic sys-tem is optimized for shovel logging and felling with a directional felling head.

The LS855D is equipped with Tigercats patented levelling system, provid-ing exceptional stability in steep slope applications. It uses two massive hydraulic cylinders and heavy steel sections for a solution that is both simple and robust. The unique geometry of the levelling system promotes balance, poise and stabil-ity on slopes. In addition, the ramped undercarriage allows the machines to eas-ily drive up over rocks and stumps. b

A mill shutdown in Port Alberni that resulted in close to 100 workers being laid off is symptomatic of a much larger problem as timber harvesting contrac-tors up and down the BC coast are struggling to be sustainable in the face of consistently low rates.

Western Forest Prod-ucts (WFP) Alberni Pacific Division mill sent home the workers due to a log short-age caused by the compa-nys dispute with coastal logging contractors.

This week our warn-ings came true, said David Elstone, RPF, the Execu-tive Director of the Truck Loggers Association. The TLA has been saying for some time that the large forest companies who con-trol much of coastal BCs public timber harvest are threatening the timber sup-ply chain and putting rural communities at risk.

WFP told shareholders that the quarterly earnings were 100 percent higher than a year ago, totalling 29.6 million dollars in a three-month period. Yet the company will allow harvest volumes to be im-pacted by between 5 and 10 per cent rather than share some of that profit with the independent, lo-

cal companies that actu-ally harvest the timber for them.

This dispute, the lay-offs at the Port Alberni mill, the loss of work by the log-ging contractor involved in the dispute and the risk of further mill closures in the area are evidence of the is-sues our members are fac-ing, said Elstone. This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as rural community sta-bility is concerned.

For TLA members, achieving business sustain-ability for their logging, road building and log haul-ing work is fundamental,

said Elstone. It will en-sure that the coastal for-est industry supply chain remains intact and that local workers who rely on the industry to feed their families are not at risk. So we urge the community of Port Alberni to be patient, Elstone said, and show support for contractors who are trying to negoti-ate for the survival of their businesses in the face of a large corporations growing profits. b
