All are welcome to the RCIA sessions held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at St. Catherine of Sweden Church in Room 215. Come and learn and grow in your faith. These sessions are a wonderful way for Catholics to renew and refresh their faith. Please pray for those who may be inquiring into coming into the Catholic Church.

November 28 No RCIA due to Thanksgiving Break

December 5 CHURCH HISTORY: How did they celebrate Mass in the early church? When did the requirement of celibacy for clerics come into effect? Come and learn as Mary Jordan leads the session on the History of the Church. We’ll trace the history from the early church in the Acts of the Apostles to our current times.

December 12 SACRED LITURGY AND THE SACRAMENTS: What does it mean to pray the Liturgy? Did Jesus really give us the Mass? What is a Sacrament? Come and learn as David and Patricia Tamburri will teach this session on the Celebration of the Christian Mystery. They will explain how we all enter into the Paschal mystery of Christ through our participation in the liturgy.

Second Collection SUPPORT AGING RELIGIOUS – Our second collection is for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Many senior Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests served for little or no pay. Today, religious communities often do not have enough savings to meet retirement needs. Your gift helps provide medications, nursing care and more for tens of thousands of elderly religious. It also helps ensure younger members can continue the good works of their elders. Please be generous.

Pre-Baptism Class Lighthouse Catholic Media Booklet – The Message of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Read about the “Little Way” of an unknown Carmelite nun who became a Doctor of the Church. Thérèse died a painful and lingering death of tuberculosis in her French convent in the Normandy town of Lisieux in 1897 at only 24 years of age. Thousands of soldiers in the First World War

trenches carried her picture to their own deaths. This acclaimed booklet sets out what Thérèse called her Little Way and powerfully reveals the relevance of the Gospel to everyday living. Available on the kiosk in the narthex at St. Catherine of Sweden.

The next PRE-BAPTISM CLASS will be held at St. Richard Parish on Tuesday, December 3 at 8:00 pm in Room 4 on the lower level. To register, please call the St. Richard Parish Office at 724-444-1971. The January class will be held at St. Catherine of Sweden on Sunday, January 5 at 10:30 am in Room 216. Please call the St. Catherine Parish Office at 412-486-6001 to register.

Spiritual Therapeutic Recovery SPIRITUAL THERAPEUTIC RECOVERY MINISTRY is designed to serve families and friends with loved ones struggling with addiction. Please mark your calendars for Thursdays, December 5, 12 & 19 for our members and newcomers who are searching for recovery that has provided inner peace and hope for families struggling with loved ones in addiction. We continue to provide open enrollment at St. Catherine of Sweden for this vital ministry on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the Children’s Chapel, Room 222. The group meets at pre-designated times. David Gentile, a psychologist who has worked with this population of clients for several years and has personal experience as well, facilitates this much needed group that has a spiritual and clinical foundation for recovery. Please call the Parish Office at 412-486-6001 to register. Walk-ins are always welcome. Keep in mind that this is a recovery program for individuals providing support and care for their loved ones—not for the individual in addiction.

Music Notes Today, we end our Liturgical Year by celebrating Jesus, the King of the Universe. This King continues to give of himself today as he did by giving himself completely on the wood of the cross. The majesty of the music today will give way to the more reserved music of Advent. As we come to an end, we also look towards the future with hope. May Christ the King be with each of you in the coming new year.

God Bless, Jim Skalos, Music Minister

As we gather around the table at Thanksgiving, let us thank God, who is the giver of all good gifts.

Let us pray...

Generous and merciful God, we thank you for your abundant gifts to us. As we celebrate this Thanksgiving feast, we ask you to send your Spirit, to open our hearts to you and our neighbor, that we may share the gifts you have given us as your Son Jesus taught us to.

Thank you for the many blessings of our lives: our family and friends, our home and the food we eat, our health and employment.

We ask your blessing on all gathered here today, and all your people throughout the world, through Christ your Son. Amen.

Widows or Widowers Luncheon The next WIDOWS OR WIDOWERS (WOW) LUNCHEON will be held on Saturday, December 7, at 12:30 pm at La Casa Narcisi Winery on Rt. 910. All widows & widowers from

St. Catherine and St. Richard Parishes are invited to join us for food and fellowship! Please bring cash for your lunch as Narcisi’s is unable to provide separate checks for a group. RVSP to Kathy Obermeier at 724-518-9577 by Friday morning, December 6. Hope to see you there

ST. CATHERINE OF SWEDEN & ST. RICHARD

Discipleship Corner Jesus is called Emmanuel, God with us. This would suggest that when Jesus ascended into Heaven, God was no longer with us. But this is not the case at all; in at least two ways, God is closer to us now than at any prior point in the history of Creation. One of those ways we will discuss next week. But the most obvious, and yet most hidden way that God is with us is in the Person of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was and is the incarnation of God the Son, a human example of Divine Love walking among us. God the Holy Spirit, in turn, lives within us. We who are baptized have received the Holy Spirit; we who are confirmed are strengthened in the Spirit. The disciples had God Incarnate walking among them, but they only became the Apostles when they had God the Spirit dwelling within them.

Yet, it must be clear: this is not a magic trick or a form of possession. The love of God does not override our will, but invites us to conform our will to God’s perfect will. This invitation to holiness is possible through the coming of the Holy Spirit, but it is still an invitation. Even those of us who have been baptized and confirmed must still choose, every day, to live out our Christian vocation. And just as God is Love, our Christian vocation is always a vocation to love; whether single or married, with or without children, or in any other state of life, we are called to will the good of our neighbor. That means everyone. This is a challenging vocation, so it is a good thing that we have the Holy Spirit to help us.

Challenge: Think of one way you have been resisting your vocation to love others. Pray to the Holy Spirit to open your heart to change.

—Will Reaves, Director of Evangelization & Intentional Discipleship

The Word Among Us

Christmas Door Wreaths SIX CHRISTMAS DOOR WREATHS are available to mark a special occasion, honor a loved one or memorialize a deceased family member. They will hang on the front doors of St. Catherine of Sweden Church through the Christmas Season.

Donation is $125.00 each. The dedications are published in the bulletin. To reserve your wreath, please call the Parish Office at 412-486-6001.

Families Needed During Advent Families are asked to join the procession and carry the ADVENT CANDLE for each Mass on the four Sundays of Advent beginning November 30/December 1. Please sign up in the narthex if you would like to volunteer.

Next weekend we begin a new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent. With this new beginning, we will be tweaking the way we distribute Holy Communion at St. Catherine of Sweden in that we will no longer distribute Communion in the overflow area in the back of the church.

Theologically speaking, one of the components of Communion as “meal” is the aspect of the faithful coming forward to the table to be fed with the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus gave us the Eucharist to make us one body in Him, and one way we express that is to move to the table of the Lord forming one procession, a pilgrim people on the move together. Therefore, in solidarity, the ushers will invite all those seated in the overflow area to join in the procession to the table.

After the Communion procession ends, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will then minister to all those who are physically unable to join in the procession who are seated in the designated areas to have Communion brought to them.

We are also reminded that after receiving Communion, we return to our pew. We do not go crashing out the door! Mass isn’t over yet! The General Instruction of the Roman Missal encourages us to spend some time following the hymn to reflect and praise God for the gracious and wondrous gift of the Body and Blood of Christ.

May we always have a profound respect for the Eucharist.

Thanksgiving Blessings! Father Bob
