Your Abundance at the Present Time Should Supply Their Needs, so that Their Abundance May also Supply Your Needs – These words, taken from today’s second reading, highlight the true nature of the On Mission for The Church Alive!
initiative. All of us, individually and in our parishes, are abundantly gifted. We each bring to the table a variety of unique characteristics and talents that are used to spread the Good News of the Gospel and bring Christ to others. As our parishes prepare to come together as parish groupings, and as we seek to form and strengthen relationships with our sisters and brothers in the Church, the goal is not for these gifts to be trimmed away and wasted. Instead, we are called to work to unite the many
ways we seek to do good in the world so that everyone, youth and adults of all ages, can be support in faith and in life. What can you do to help make your parish grouping The Church Alive!? What can others do to help make your parish grouping The Church Alive!? Let us be willing to both give and receive to make our parishes on fire with the love and goodness of God. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.
Today is the Peter’s Pence Collection, a worldwide collection that supports the charitable works of Pope Francis. Funds from this collection help victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please be generous today. For more information, visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence.

Inclina aurem tuam, accelera, ut eruas nos. In te, Domine, speravi, non confundar in aeternum; in iustitia tua libera me.
Incline your ear, make haste to deliver us. In you, O Lord, have I hoped; let me never be confounded; in your justice deliver me.
To all SEAS parishioners: thank you for welcoming me, Kate, Greta, and Cecilia with open arms seven
years ago, for celebrating with us as our girls were baptized, for your openness to new liturgical and
musical ideas, for all of your expressions of gratitude and appreciation over the years, and for being
such a shining example of what a Catholic community should be. The word "vibrant" is used a lot these
days to describe what a parish ought to be. Well, if SEAS isn't vibrant, I don't know what is. Thank you
for inspiring us and for letting us be a part of it all.
Thank you also for the overwhelming and humbling sendoff last Sunday. On behalf of Kate, Greta, and
Cece, thank you all for coming to say goodbye, for your kind words and well-wishes, for the cards, the
gifts, the food...I could go on and on. A special thank you to Fr. Poecking, Carol and Pat Riley, Bob
Greek, Lucille Herman, and others I'm unaware of who organized such a magnificent sendoff. We will
miss you all dearly, and may God bless and keep you all for eternity.
In Christ, Nick

WELCOME (BRIEFLY) BENITO STALLINGS!
Benito Stallings is a native of Philadelphia, but lives now in our region as he finishes a Master of Divinity degree at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. (His undergraduate degree, from Penn State, is in communications.) Benito has experience working at theologates, including Yale Divinity School. He has held multiple positions as chaplain and development officer. “Field education”—a kind of apprenticeship or internship—is typically required of M.Div. students, and Benito expects to complete his field education under my supervision. He will therefore be joining the SEAS Parish staff as my pastoral assistant, and you may see him around as he gets to know what we’ve been up to here. It’ll be a brief experience, because Benito will be following me when I leave SEAS Parish for Grouping #330, so get to know him while you can!
But for the coming month, you won’t see me. I’ll be in San Antonio, Texas, on holiday and studying Spanish for almost four weeks. Msgr. William Ogrodowski, Frs. Robin Evanish, Jason Charron, John Gudewicz, Dick Ward, and Brian Welding will all be pitching in to cover Masses for me. Meanwhile, pastoral associates Tess Keddie and Steve Geitgey will provide non-sacramental care. Please thank them all for their labors in my absence!
Happy Independence Day! SEAS Parish observes the holiday with a single Mass at 8:30 a.m., and no noon Mass.
—Fr. Dave

NEWS AND EVENTS FROM PARISH GROUPING #210
The Vincentians Are Doing It!
In this time of change, transition, and opening of hearts and minds to bigger possibilities, our
Vincentians are one of the groups leading the rest of us. They always have been the ones to: run the
SVdP food pantry here at SEAS, giving food with a smile, listening to clients' concerns with care and
concern, directing them to other resource options that might help to solve their problems, and even,
on occasion and as unusual need exists, delivering food or providing clients in need with a ride home;
handle case management, prayerfully discerning which clients they can help with their financial crises,
and how much they can help, while carefully stewarding the monetary donations received from
parishioners, as well as from many other generous souls beyond our church doors;
do home visits to those experiencing special types of hardship, to pray with, to befriend, and to be a
link between the Church and those in need.
Doing all of these actions in the name of Christ and for the glory of God is evangelization!
Now, they are going even farther by meeting frequently with the SVdP conference leaders and
members from the other two parishes in our new Grouping #210. Together, they are praying,
discussing, and sharing ideas with each other in order to determine how the three conferences can
best help each other with financial, personnel, and tangible resources in order to serve the low
income and poor within the combined parish boundaries even better than before.
Thanks goes to members of all three conferences for being a uniting force as we grow together to
continue being "On Mission for the Church Alive!".
"...neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything,
but only God, who causes the growth.
The one who plants and the one who waters are equal,
and each will receive wages in proportion to his labor.
For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building."
~ 1 Corinthians 3:7-9
SAVE THE DATE: SATURDAY, 9/15/18 We at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton have ordered our bus for The 2018 Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Basilica of
the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. This will be held on Saturday, September 15. Although we have to open the opportunity to all parishes in the diocese and to anyone who may want to
use our convenient location as their starting and ending point, we’d love to make this a Grouping 210 event! That means we need 55 people to step up as soon as possible and verbally commit to attending this (first come-first served!). The cost
for each person will be approximately $75 for this one-day trip, including one meal on the way home that evening. You
may want to plan to reserve additional funds for purchasing lunch upon arrival, gifts at the Basilica gift shop, etc. We are looking for your verbal commitment immediately. We will need your payment (check made payable to SEAS Parish with 9/15/18 pilgrimage in notation section) before Monday, August 14th in order to process it in time for the diocesan deadline. More details will be in next week’s bulletin!
Contact for commitment and/or questions: Tess Keddie, 412-276-1011 ext. 221 or [email protected]. Please leave
your name email address, mail address, and phone number.
