Programme Objective In this Summer School, students receive an introduction to new produc- tion technologies in connection with Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 is an initiative by the German government which started in 2011 in order to push on the integration of production with information and communication technologies. In this context, digitization, automati- on, human-machine interaction as well as better networked production systems play an important role. Students will be exposed to such topics as modern factory planning, the digital supply chain, mobile robots for flexible intralogistics, additive manufacturing (3D printing), assembly robotics, and the ergonomic design of human-machine interaction. Summer School Production Technology meets Industry 4.0 Academic Staff The engineering classes are designed and instructed by members of the RWTH Cluster of Excellence „Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries“. The Cluster consists of the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL), the Institute Clus- ter IMA/ZLW & IfU, the Institute for Industrial Management (FIR), the Institute of Metal Forming (ibf), the Institue for Plastics Processing (IKV), the Institute for Textile Technology (ITA), the Chair for Laser Technology (LLT), the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy (IEHK), and the Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics (IAW). Applicant‘s Profile This programme is especially designed for B.Sc./B.E. students enrolled at top universities. Applicants need proficient knowledge of the English language and should be studying Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Desirable is the completion of the first year. The RWTH International Academy Summer School offers a truly dynamic and engaging academic and cultural environment for its international visitors. Through its academic summer course offer in the charming historic city of Aachen, the top-ranked RWTH Aachen University invites students to take part in state-of-the-art and hands-on approaches to technical learning at one of Europe’s leading science and research institutions. Our summer courses provide a fantastic opportunity to experience what studying at RWTH Aachen University is really like. Quickfacts Study format: Summer School Duration: 3 weeks Workload: 90 Teaching Units Course Fees: EUR 2,800 Qualification: Certificate Language: English Application Information We will evaluate the applications based on the cover letter, the com- pletion of the special requirements of each programme, the overall strength of your academic record, and extracurricular experiences.
