Summer Reading Log

Welcome to the McCarty Summer Reading Program. This summer your teachers and Mrs. McVey

are encouraging every child to keep learning, reading and enjoying books. To be eligible for some

special rewards when you return to McCarty in the fall you need to keep track of your reading and

learning on this reading log and return it to your teacher this fall.

Here’s how it works:

Cross off everyday that you complete one of the following activities:

Read or listen to one book everyday

Complete a math or reading game on your device

Read or listen to a book for 25 minutes everyday

Attend a zoo, camp, museum or family activity that included reading

Rewards for reading include:

VIP LMC card with special library privileges

Summer reading celebration

The McCarty LMC will be open for family fun and book checkout

on designated Tuesday mornings in June , July and August from 9 - 11AM

Join Mrs. McVey and Mrs. Reyes in the LMC on Tuesdays this summer for

TONS of fun! Let books be the foundation for your summer adventure. Books

can take you ANYWHERE! Over the summer, we will be in the LMC on 6

Tuesdays (dates below) to help you plan your summer adventures. Tuesday

mornings will include book talks, many fun activities, treats, prizes and time for

you to explore books and technology. See below for a list of activities:

Schedule and Activities for Tuesday Mornings 9 - 11AM

June 13 - Books can take you on amazing adventures! Join us for an LMC scavenger

hunt. Jump into summer by discovering all the amazing fun there is in our very own library. We will have a variety of book suggestions, puzzles and board games, as well as, prizes and ice cream sundaes for all!

June 20 - Books and your imagination can take you to fantastic places! More book

suggestions, face painting by Dots and Splash at 10AM and fun crafts for you to express your “fantastic self.”

July 11 - Learn how to find books with information about your favorite subject. We will

have lots of Non-fiction recommendations for you. Discover the many technology resources we have in the LMC. Take some time explore in our Makerspace!

July 18 - If you like mysteries, we have lots in the LMC! Plus, we need your help to

solve a real live mystery in the library! Learn about the science of crime solving. Aurora City Police officer will join us at 10:30 AM

July 25 - Books can bring the past alive. Join us as we explore historical fiction and

biography. Dress as your favorite person or historical figure. A professional storyteller will be here at 10AM to make some of our favorite stories come to life.

August 1 - Join us to get your summer time sillies out! Balloon art at 10AM and fun

games and activities all morning. Of course we will have lots of funny book suggestions!

All McCarty Mustang Readers Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to join us. All students should be accompanied by a responsible older person to ensure safety and

supervision. See you this summer in the LMC!
