    SPORT.BEGINNERS RUNNING

    It really doesnt matter if yourenot a runner as this session hasbeen organised especially for you!Feel free to use this session tokick start your running and to gett. There is no pressure; you cantake things at your own pace. Wewill be running around EndcliffePark as it is the perfect locationfor beginners running. Pleasewear trainers and bring a bottleof water.Tuesday 3rd May, meet at

    Endcliffe Park the entrance byHunters Bar Roundabout at16:30, 1.

    INTERVAL RUNNING

    Interval running is for runners withsome experience. There will be acoach on hand for to offer trainingadvice and helpful tips. We willbe running 1-2km laps aroundWestern Park with the aim of thesession to maintain your speedand match your time on eachlap. Please wear suitable runningshoes and bring a bottle of water.

    Wednesday 4th May, meet at17:40 in Western Park in frontof the museum. The sessionwill nish at 19:00, 1.

    FENCING

    Fencing is a fantastic sport oftactics, speed and agility. Learnsome basic footwork and swordskills, practice moves on apartner, and get the chance tofence your rst ght (dont worry,it wont hurt!). A great way ofkeeping t and improving yourreexes - and more importantly,super fun! Please wear tracksuitbottoms, trainers and bring abottle of water.

    CHEERLEADINGSTUNT CLASS

    Come and have some exegeticfun with the cheerleading stunt

    quad. We will teach you basicgymnastics, stunts and dancemoves. The session guaranteesto be lots of fun and there willbe elements of an exercise classbuilt in too! No experience is

    required, everybody is welcome.Please wear gym clothes andtrainers.

    AIKIDO

    Aikido is a Japanese martial artwhich utilises strikes, joint locksand throws to neutralise an attackwith a degree of control uniqueto Aikido. Such control allows anattacker to be restrained by wayof good technique, power andtiming, rather than brute strengthand bone breaking. Shodokan

    CURLING

    Want to try something new,exciting and very unique? Thencurling is denitely for you. Giveit a Go has teamed up withIceShefeld to give you theopportunity to try the regionslatest sport. Curling is a sport thateveryone can play; with just onebrief lesson youll be well on yourway, and get the chance to test

    out your newly acquired skills in acurling competition. Wear trainersfor the curling session. Ice skatesare provided for the skatingsession. Wear warm clothing andbring a pair of gloves.

    Friday 20th May, meet at13:45 at the reception of IceShefeld. The tuition will start

    at 14:00 and run until 16:00. 3(includes tuition, skate hire and

    Whether you are a total beginner or a bit of an expert around thetable come to Goodwin Sports Centre for the launch of our ShefeldPing Project. The Ping Project offers you more opportunities to playtable tennis at a level that is right for you. Have a go on the tables;

    THE TOUR

    On this tour you will get areal insight to the engineeringbehind sport. Our tour willbegin along the industrialLower River Lea Valley whichleads to the Olympic Park toobserve panoramic views of theconstruction sight. We will seemany of the venues including theVelodrome, Aquatic Centre andOlympic Stadium. The guide willtell us about the constructionplans, details of the games andcompetitors.

    Sustainability and regeneration

    are key themes to London 2012and its promise of a sustainablelegacy and future benetswere crucial to winning the bid.The new facilities have beendesigned to be used by the localcommunity after the gamesand the work on the OlympicPark is hoped to strength theinfrastructure.

    ESSENTIAL INFORMATIONShefeld Unions innovative Give it a Go programme is packed full of activities, events andexperiences. Every year thousands of students take part in Give it a Go, and you should too!

    BUYING TICKETSTickets for all activities are on sale at the Union Box Ofce, (tel: 0114 2228777). Tickets mustbe purchased in advance; you cant just turn up and pay on the door. Demand for Give ita Go is massive and events can sell out very quickly please buy your ticket early to avoiddisappointment! Unfortunately, any tickets purchased are non-refundable and cannot beexchanged/transferred.

    CHILD-FRIENDLY TICKETSLook out for the child-friendly logo beside selected day trips. Student parents can take theirchildren on these trips, for 2 less than the normal price! Just ask at Box Ofce.

    WOMENS MINIBUSFor evening activities in the Union, the Womens Minibus will take you home to your door anywherewithin a 2 mile radius of the Union. The service runs at half past every hour and tickets cost just1.50 from the Union Box Ofce.

    ROOM LOCATIONThe Gallery, Gallery Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4 and the Gallery Eye are all on Level 4 of the Union Building.The Fusion and the Foundry are on Level 2 of the Union Building. The Raynor Lounge is next toBar One.
