From the President

Well it appears that we are headed into the beautiful fall, my favorite season. Not looking forward to the bad word of “old man winter’” BURR”.

I would like to thank everyone who came to Kalahari for the fall meeting. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves. Had a few communication issues, but it all worked out “I think”.

3

Page 4: Summer Issue 2013 - International Satin Gavelinternationalsatingavel.org/Newsletters/2017 Newsletters/…  · Web viewPresident Betty DuPre’ RVYC 419.726.5999 Missi5020@aol.com

I think we had a productive meeting and several items were covered. Treasurer Linda Zmek noted that we had names on the checking account that needs to be adjusted and per the by-laws

the names should be the first Vice Pres. ,President and Treasurer. The question was ask if the Financial Secretary should be added as she collects all dues, Carole Lee stated if we want that to happen we need to make a by-law change, need input on this if you have an opinion. Sarah reminded everyone that dues is due by January 1. She is looking for the treasurer of each chapter, as she will be working with them to try to get all information as correct as possible.

It was suggested that possibly clothing chairperson, Connie could work with Tammy Darr and possibly we could order something if she doesn’t have a size we want. Connie is doing a fine job, but as we are all different sizes it doesn’t make shopping easy. Possibly this could make her job a little easier. She is also checking into finding the glitz ISG pins that several ladies ask about.Nominating Chair person and her committee are doing a good job of working to get ladies or persons to fill our board. As of now we still need a Recording Secretary, and 2, 2yr Board members. I feel that is very good for 1st, nominations. Thanks to Sandi and her committee.

Thanks goes to CCYC for agreeing to host the January Meeting. It will be a one (1) day meeting as most of their ladies are snow birds, “Thanks to Kelda and Tammy, you go girls”. They stated that there is a Bed and Breakfast very close if anyone is interested.

Angie Thomas stated a tentive date of April 8th is the date for the April Meeting.

Denise Zawodni (RVYC) reminded everyone to remember the Christmas in November, Sunday Nov. 8, hosted by RVYC (1 – 3p.m.) $20.00 gift exchange if you choose.

I would like to thank everyone for thoughts and prayers for my husband, Jim. He is doing much better, still has a ways to go, but could be much worse.

Hugs to all and HAPPY HOLIDAYS

President Betty Dupre'

From the Chaplain

The Formal ISG FuneralThe formal ISG funeral is done for a DUES paying ISG member and their spouse only. The family should notify the Chapter President and she in turn should notify the ISG President and the ISG Chaplin of the time and place of the funeral. An email will be sent to all the members by the ISG President. The Chapter Presidents should notify those members who do not have an email. If the ISG Chaplain is unable to attend the funeral the ISG President will designate a replacement. The ISG uniform should be worn as designated by the bylaws along with the blue

blazer. The ceremony will include an introduction, prayers, poems and presentation of one red rose to the most senior representative of the family. An informal Satin Gavel funeral may be done by the individual Satin Gavel Chapters at their discretion for example: a family member (a father, mother, sister, brother) of their Satin Gavel. The Chapter President will preside or her appointee. They would do an introduction, prayers, poems, etc. of their own choosing and not those of ISG.

I have been asked to publish the 2 formal ISG funeral poems if the ISG Chaplain is not available.

The Rose Beyond the WallNear a shady wall a rose once grew.

Budded and blossomed in God’s free light.Watered and fed by morning dew.

Shedding it’s sweetness day and night.

As it grew and blossomed fair and tall.Slowly rising to loftier height. It came to a crevice in the wall.

Through which there shone a beam of light.

Onward it crept with added strength. With never a thought of fear or pride.

It followed the light through the crevice length .And unfolded itself on the other side.

The light, the dew, the broadening view. Were found the same as they were before.

And it lost itself in the beauties new.Breathing its fragrance more and more.

Shall claim of death cause us to greive. And make our courage faint or fall?Nay, let us faith and hope receive.

The rose still grows beyond the wall.

Scattering fragrance far and wide.Just as it did in days of yore.

Just as it did on the other side.Just as it will forevermore.

Life Is ForeverAs long as you live and remember.Your loved one lives in your heart.

May tender memories soften your grief.May fond recollection bring you relief.

And may you find comfort and peace in the thought.Of the joy that knowing your loved one brought.

For time and space can never divide.Or keep your loved one from your side.

When memory paints in colors true. The happy hours that belonged to you

God hath not promised skies always blue.Flowered strewn pathways all our live through.

God hath not promise sun without rain.Joy without sorrow. Peace without pain.

But God hath promise strength for the day.Rest for the labor. Light for the way.Grace for the trials, help from above.Unfailing sympathy. Undying love.

Substitute Recording Secretary Rose Kunc read minutes of the previous board meeting. Sue Jones motioned to accept the meeting minutes second by PP Sarah Schuman. Motion approved.

Officer Reports:President Betty DuPre’ thanked everyone for attending. She apologized for any misunderstandings of the meeting rooms. This is our first year at Kahlahari and they have multiple people to work with. Any feedback is appreciated so Betty can provide to Fran. Fran can improve in the future. Dawn Stone and Mary Trautman have nametags that Betty has but they need to be paid for. Everyone agreed that this is reasonable. In working with the bank, Linda noted that the checking account can have up to four signers. PP Carole Lee read from our By Laws that it should be Treasurer, President and Vice President. Old Business: The January Meeting is still not scheduled or have a place to be hosted. Kelda Vernatter stated that most of their members are snow birds and not there. Her and Tammy Darr are the only ones there. Riverview Yacht Club is hosting Christmas in November. This will be November 6th. Connie Wlodarczyk will have new clothing for the meeting today.

New Business: In connection to the discussion regarding who should have access to our banking account, PP Carole Lee noted that organizationally we need to have change overs and transitions from old officers to new officers. This should include correspondence and address changes as well as information on the duties. This should be done as part of the April meeting. It is okay to have the swearing in later in the day as it is protocol. The signers according to the By-laws should be Treasurer, President and Vice. This can be changed via by-law amendments.

Discussion regarding the gift for the Past President from the board, of the board for the Past President. This should be agreed/approved by the board. The gift is from the board and they should agree and decide the amount each can give. If someone chooses not to pay, the short fall would be decided by the remainder of the board. It should not come from the treasury.

Treasurer Linda Zmek asked for any bills. Kelda Vernatter provided her receipts for $21.60. President Betty DuPre’ noted that instead of hospitality charges, the board approved the small gift of chocolates for all at the luncheon. The food at the evening’s event was donated by the members. Nancy Thomas and Barb Takacs called on Friday that they could not attend the lunch. President Betty DuPre’ contacted Kahlahari immediately, but it was too late to cancel. They will need to pay for the lunch.

There is a Bed & Breakfast at the marina if anyone is interested they can contact Kelda or Tammy for more information.

President Betty DuPre’ stated that a chapter has the discretion to make someone an honorary member. This is someone who does much work for your chapter and the Satin Gavel organization. One such case at RVYC was Marry Ellis who recently passed away. She was invaluable and very deserving as an honorary member of ISG.
