    Yogyakartas Traditional Foods

You may wonder what Kipomeans in the first place. And when

you get to know that it is a name of

food you may think that it has

    something to do with Bakpao

    (Buns) and originates from China.

The name Kipo does sound like

Bakpao. But the truth is, they are

    totally different in shape, taste

and origin. It is a local snack from

Kotagede, Yogyakarta. It is round, small, tastes sweet and deliciously

piquant at the same time, and

    perfect to accompany your

afternoon tea. The name Kipo is

    abbreviated from a Javanese

    phrase Iki opo which means

    What is this?

The other uniqueness of Kipo is its

non chemical coloring. The greencolor for the paste is made of suji

    leaf and pandanus. While the

    brown color of the enten-enten

    comes from the combination of

    grated young coconut and brown

    sugar.

Since Kipo does not use any

preservative, it does not endurefor a long period of time. It lasts

    two days max.

The food of Central Java is

renowned for its sweetness, and the

dish of gudeg, a curry made from

jackfruit, is a particularly sweet. Gudeg

    is traditionally associated with

    Yogyakarta, and Yogyakarta often

nicknamed as "Kota Gudeg" (city of

    gudeg).

    Gudeg is a traditional food

from Yogyakarta and Central Java,Indonesia which is made from young

Nangka (jack fruit) boiled for several

hours with palm sugar, and coconut

    milk. Additional spices include garlic,

    shallot, candlenut, coriander seed,

galangal, bay leaves, and teak leaves,

the latter giving a brown color to the

dish. It is also called Green Jack Fruit

    Sweet Stew.

    Gudeg is served with white

rice, chicken, hard-boiled egg, tofuand/or tempeh, and a stew made of

    crispy beef skins (sambal goreng

    krecek).

Bakpia is food made from green

beans with sugar mixture wrapped in

flour and then baked. In some areas of

Indonesia, the food seemed legit if

eaten is known as the pia or pia cake.

Contents bakpia can adapt to consumer

    desires including chocolate, cheese,

green kumbu, and kumbu black. Bakpia

well-known one of them came fromareas Pathok (Pathuk), Yogyakarta.

    The combinat ion between

piquant as well as a bit of sweet and salty

is the characteristic of gatot. Moreover,

the tough texture and the rough grated

coconut add the exotism when you chew

this food. Just like tiwul which ingredients

is also cassava, gatot is believed to be ableto prevent gastric pain. In addition,

consuming gatot can make you feel full

longer or awet wareg as Javanese people

    would say, because medically the

digestive system needs more time to

    digest it.

    Gatot

    Culinary hunting in Yogyakarta is

never ending. The piquant taste of

rabbit satay and its peanut sauce is

    slightly different from the other

satays that are more common for

people like chicken and lamb satay.

    However, rabbit meat has different

taste and texture, its piquancy is not

as strong as chicken meat and its

soft texture is not as hard as lamb

meat. You can find rabbit satay on

the restaurants and food stalls in

    Kaliurang tourism resort in Sleman

    Regency, Yogyakarta.

    Rabbit Satay

if you are on your visit to Yogyakarta , You should try jogjas traditional foods, you had better buy them

    right before you leave.

    And many others traditional food

in jogja, so come to jogja and

    taste it.
