A deep immersion into the richly varied cultures of the Middle East and North Africa, The Map of Salt and Stars follows the journeys of Nour and Rawiya as they travel along identical paths across the region eight hundred years apart, braving the unknown beside their companions as they are pulled by the promise of reaching home at last. Touchstone $27. The Judge Hunter by Christopher Buckley This latest comic novel from Christopher Buckley begins in London, 1664. When Balty’s ship arrives in Boston, he finds a strange country filled with Puritans, Quakers, warring tribes of Indians, and rogues of every stripe. Meanwhile, Samuel Pepys prepares for a war with the Dutch that he fears England has no chance of winning. Simon & Schuster $26.95. Summer is here and we celebrate being at the beach, watchingthe calm water, listening to the seagulls, and enjoying “down”time. What a concept.

This whole idea of taking a break reminds us of Daniel Pink’slatest book When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing. He notonly shares research about how to know when we are most

productive and effective, he points out that frequent breaks areimportant to being able to perform on all cylinders. So, it’s good we are here toenjoy summer at the beach… and it’s important that we remember to take timeout of the busyness of our lives to rest and recharge.

We’ve got plenty in the store that will help you slow down, savor a good story, andsimply not want to get up out of that beach chair. The 2018 line-up for Fiction isstellar and the shelves are stocked with our favorites we’ve read and enjoyed. Themedia has been interviewing authors, and each week we’ve discovered one moreauthor who has allowed us to look at the world anew. From historical andinternational fiction to non-fiction that invites us to take a deeper look at historyand our future, there are books that inform, enlighten, challenge, and inspire us.

While the retail sector of our economy has had its struggles, the renaissance forindependent bookstores continues. Print books remain 80 percent of the businessand people acknowledge that being able to browse a bricks-and-mortar storehelps them with one basic dilemma: what to read next. Customers find value inwhat independent bookstores stock and recommend, and we are thrilled that somany people specifically seek out our independently owned bookstore.

Thank you for shopping at Litchfield Books. It is truly our joy to be part of thecoastal community where we can welcome our visitors and be a part of the reasonthey love coming to the beach.

We hope you savor your “down” time whether you are visiting just for the week orlive here throughout the year. We look forward to helping you find some greatbooks while you relax and recharge.
