About the PresentationWhat do you need to sit? How is your posture? Are you balanced? Do you suffer from pain? Are you in shape to do what you do?
In today’s lecture, Physical Therapist and Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist Timothy Caruso will discuss all these questions and how they relate to you and your profession. He will talk about posture, body mechanics and ergonomics with particular references to musculoskeletal disorders, cumulative trauma and pain. He will identify optimal, balanced working postures and discuss the characteristics of operator/assistance stools, patient chairs, office design and optimal function. In addition to his points on lighting, magnification and visual fatigue, he will identify activities, techniques and prevention strategies to reduce stress in the operatory.
Mr Caruso will also share the positive benefits of regular exercise for the dental professional and offer advice on conservative pain management for back and neck pain with specific regard to dentistry.
Following a morning lecture will be a more hands-on practical and interactive afternoon session to include exercises for optimal positioning as well as the opportunity for an actual assessment of someone in discomfort.
About Timothy Caruso,PT, MBA, MS, Cert. MDT, CEAS
Timothy J. Caruso is a practicing Physical Therapist who has focused his professional expertise in the area of manual therapy and orthopedics; specifically, neuromusculoskeletal disorders. He has a Master of Business Admin. (Organizational Development) and a Master of Science (Organizational Behaviour).
Mr. Caruso has been credentialed in mechanical diagnosis and therapy from the McKenzie Institute USA. A contributing author to various dental publications and recipient of several awards, he continues in private practice in treatment of spinal disorders. A member of the American Dental Association’s Ergonomic and Disability Support Advisory Committee, he has worked extensively with the dental profession since 1988 in the areas of ergonomics, injury prevention, productivity, exercise and wellness.
Speaker and Founder of Chicagoland Performance Consultants, Mr. Caruso has an ongoing interest in both assessing musculoskeletal pain on dental professionals and creative prevention strategies. He continues with direct patient care at Shriner’s Hospital for Children and in Community Physical Therapy, and has worked extensively with children and adults with orthopedic conditions. Co-founder and President of the Kids Equipment Network, this charity has provided medical equipment for over 800 children with special needs at no cost to them.
