A STUDY PATH TO SUIT EVERYONE

FOUNDATION ENTRY

We offer Foundation Entry courses for students who have the ability to study for a degree but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to enter directly onto your chosen honour’s degree programme. This additional preliminary year of study provides you with the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to succeed at honours degree level.

FOUNDATION DEGREE

A two-year undergraduate programme (Level 5 qualification) and will require a further top-up year to gain an honours degree qualification.

BACHELOR’S (HONOURS) DEGREE

A three-year undergraduate degree programme (Level 6 qualification), or two years if on the accelerated degree programme. Some of our programmes allow you to take a placement year, so you can gain insight, technical skills and experience to help you decide your future career.

TOP-UP DEGREE (DIRECT ENTRY)

If you have successfully completed a two-year Foundation Degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND), a one-year top-up degree enables you to graduate with a full honour’s degree. This will boost your existing qualifications and open new career possibilities.

MASTER’S (POSTGRADUATE) DEGREE

If you have a bachelor’s degree, you can progress to our postgraduate courses, designed to support your learning journey or provide you with the skills you need to take the next step in your career. These are delivered as taught or research programmes.

DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP

They enable you to combine work-based learning with part-time study and earn while you learn. A Degree Apprenticeship provides learning and support towards a full bachelor’s degree at Level 6.

FEES AND FINANCE

Undergraduate StudentsMost UK/EU students choose to apply for a student loan, which means that the Government agrees to pay your tuition fees during your time at University. You only need to start paying this money back after you have graduated and are employed and earning more than £25,725 per year*. Every year you will pay back 9% of the amount of your salary which is above this amount (before tax). Make sure you apply to Student Finance for your loan as soon as you have applied for a place at UCLan.

Your student loan will be made up of two parts:

3 A tuition fee loan, which is paid directly to the University.

3 An optional maintenance loan for living costs, which will be paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term. The amount you receive will depend on your personal circumstances, such as your household income and whether you live away from home or with your family.

Postgraduate studentsUK/EU Students studying at postgraduate level may also be able to access funding for their course from Student Finance. The loans available for postgraduate study are designed to assist with the costs incurred by students while undertaking their course and are paid directly into your bank account. Unlike Undergraduate students, students who take out a postgraduate loan will still be responsible for paying tuition fees directly to the University and you may wish to allocate all or part of the loan funds to pay for your tuition fees.

Other support from UCLanWe have additional financial support packages available to students from low income households and may also be able to support students who are experiencing financial hardship or an unexpected or urgent financial situation. For full details please visit our website uclan.ac.uk

More information

Full details of our tuition fees are available at uclan.ac.uk/fees

You can apply for a student loan and find out more information about your eligibility for funding at gov.uk/student-finance

If you are an international (non-EU) student please see uclan.ac.uk/international * correct at time of printing

STUDY ABROAD A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE

The Study Abroad Exchange Programme allows UCLan students on a full-time undergraduate course to experience life at overseas universities and international students to study at UCLan.

Why Study Abroad? As well as beaches, sunsets and selfies, studying abroad will have lifelong benefits in your personal and professional life:

3 Experience a new way of learning and get a whole new outlook on your course.

3 Enhance your career - a period studying abroad will stand out on your CV and international organisations want graduates with experience of living or working overseas.

3 You will develop relevant, marketable skills such as problem-solving, communication, patience and perseverance, determination, self-motivation, analytical and study skills.

3 You will meet interesting new people and develop lasting friendships.

3 Finally, you will definitely have fun! You should try to see as much of the country as you can – students who study abroad say that it is the best time of their lives!

3 For students that are studying abroad for a full year through the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP) they will receive £1,000* or as one of our study abroad direct partners you can receive a £1,500* international bursary. You will receive an 85% reduction in fees** for your study abroad year. You only pay fees to UCLan and no fees to the host institution.

How does it work?UCLan has exchange agreements with almost 100 universities from around the world, whether it’s Europe through the Erasmus+ scheme* or our Worldwide Exchange programme, where we have partners in the USA, Canada, Australia and Hong Kong, or the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP), which offers up the rest of the world. For study undertaken and passed abroad you will receive a transcript from the host institution, so whether you go for a semester or a year, it will not result in extending the length of time it takes to complete your degree programme, although this is an option in some subject areas.

Next steps - plan early!Students usually study abroad during their second year, so you’ll need to apply during your first year. Places are limited, so contact us as soon as you can.

For further information please contact the Study Abroad team. Email [email protected] or visit our website.*subject to funding being available. **reduction available through SFE and subject to change.

3 99% of Pre-registration Adult Nursing students went on to professional employment or further education (DLHE, 2018).

3 The Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at UCLan was the winner of the student experience award at the 2018 Student Nursing Times Awards.

3 The curriculum is split 50% theoretical and 50% practical clinical experience.

Course ContentNursing is one of the most rewarding careers you can choose. As a nurse specialising in adult care, you will deliver care to people who need immediate help and support in hospitals or community settings; or assist people to recover and manage an illness they will have to live with for the rest of their life. Promoting good health and educating people to care for themselves, or members of their family or community, is a key focus for adult nurses, whether their patients are in hospital, care homes or being nursed at home. Registered Nurses provide professional care for patients in many settings and your experiences within the course will prepare you for registration. Throughout the course, you will work with young and elderly alike, some will have physical problems you can see, while others will have mental health problems that call for excellent listening skills as much as your clinical knowledge.

Career ProspectsOur Nursing graduates go on to work in a variety of healthcare disciplines and settings. Career opportunities are available in a range of nursing specialities within the National Health Service in both hospital and community settings; as well as other healthcare opportunities within the independent and third sector or social services.

HIGHER AND DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS

UCLan is a leading provider of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships, which enable you to combine work-based learning with study and earn while you learn. A Higher Apprenticeship is undertaken with a view to achieving a qualification at Level 4 or 5, while a Degree Apprenticeship provides learning and support towards a full bachelor’s degree at Level 6.

Our Higher and Degree Apprenticeships allow you to develop advanced skills and knowledge in the workplace through a structured development programme devised by your employer in collaboration with the University, leading to a valuable, industry-recognised qualification. You will also have opportunities to gain professional accreditation and memberships.

You will continue as a paid employee of your company, with a contract of employment, regular salary and holiday entitlement, and you’ll also get to enjoy all the benefits of being a University student.

A big advantage of this innovative offering is that you won’t need to take out a student loan: your tuition fees will be paid by your employer, who will contribute to the Government’s apprenticeship levy, and you will continue to earn a regular income.

UCLan has collaborated on Higher and Degree Apprenticeships with high profile employers including BAE Systems, BBC, Cumbria Constabulary, Cumbria Council, Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Constabulary, and Royal Mail.

Our Degree Apprenticeships typically take between three and six years to complete (depending on the level of study). Each course is closely aligned with nationally recognised Apprenticeship Standards, which outline the skills and proficiencies you will gain as well as the career path you will be qualified to follow after completion.
