    STUDENT SATELLITE PROJECT

    Overview of Satellite Design

    1. Introduction

    Design and development of satellite is a challenging tasks, at one hand it involves the team

    effort of multiple disciplines and on the other designers need to ensure that satellite will be able

    to withstand and survive the harsh environment including temperature extremes, radiations,

    shocks, vibration during launch etc. Till today thousands of satellites have been launched for

    various applications such as Weather Forecasting, Television Broadcasting, Communications,

    Internet Communications, Navigation, and Remote Sensing etc. For any kind of satellite three

    components are required

    Launcher (means to send it to desired orbit)Satellite itself

    Ground Station (means to control satellite and receive its data)

    The brochure at hand gives an overview of satellite design and various aspects that need to be

    considered. Simplified block diagram of a satellite is given below:

    processor with controlling algorithms for correction.
