Lions High School Kisumu: Strategic Plan014

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Lions High School Kisumu is a school

with great potential in this region. All

our staff and students affirm the fact

that they see a lot of room for major

improvements in the schools overall

performance. It is in the light of this

realization that in August 2014 we

embarked on a journey to strategize

on better ways of managing our

school in order to offer the best

academic standards towards

producing good results.

I wish to mention with great appreciation the active participation of the members of

the Board of Management (BOM), Parents Association (PA) in the running of our

school. I acknowledge with gratitude the keenness and passion they have displayed

in supporting the process of developing this strategic plan. I also want to appreciate

the great sacrifice in form of time and skills, the services and commitment our

teachers, non-teachers and students representatives gave in producing this strategic

plan.

Of special mention and acknowledgment is the part played by … [Madam Principle,

feel at liberty to mention all those you wish to acknowledge …]

I am very proud and full of gratitude and trust in God that with this strategic plan,

Lions High School Kisumu is boldly with confidence, moving towards the level of

excellence that is captured in the spirit of this document as encapsulated in our

vision, mission, goal and core values.

It is my conviction that on the basis of this strategic plan, which has clearly mapped

out the schools areas of focus for the next five years, that we are on a firm footing as

the schools management to play our coordinating role in policy, planning,

monitoring and evaluation and in contributing towards a competitive and successful

school producing high quality students ready to for admission to any institution of

higher learning nationally and globally.

Lions High School Kisumu: Strategic Plan014

FOREWORD Lions High School Kisumu has taken a courageous and

bold step of developing a strategic plan that will guide

its operations for the period 2014-2019. As we strive to

establish ourselves into a respectable status, both in

standard and management, we are very conscious of the

need to focus our efforts towards excellent academic

performance.

So far, the school has shown indications of great

potential in growth despite a number of setbacks. During

the situational, SWOT and PESTEL analysis carried out

during our strategic planning process, it was evident that

the future successful implementation of this plan is ultimate in achieving our goals.

The pattern of growth and development of Lions High School Kisumu needs to be

orderly in order to achieve our goal and realize our efforts. We will need to take

advantage of emerging opportunities and capitalize on all conceivable advantages to

better our school in order to emerge best in this region.

May I take this opportunity to thank all representatives of the stakeholders who have

made the development of this strategic plan successful. In pursuit of the noble objectives

set out here, I would like to emphasize the need for team spirit more than ever, as we

endeavour to move forward with our plans. I believe that each one of us will be able to

utilize their unique contributions in realizing our dreams.

I recognize the tremendous task ahead of us and I am well aware of the need for all of us

to work together, enlisting any support that may be accorded to us by our alumni,

friends and well-wishers to support all the activities outlined in our plan.

Thank you all in your endeavours.

Lions High School Kisumu: Strategic Plan014

WORD FROM THE PTA CHAIRMAN Our central goal of education in Lions High School

Kisumu is that all students graduate from high school

ready for college, career, citizenship, and life. Many of

our students in the community do not graduate from

high school with the education that our county

demands. If we are not ready for the challenges and

opportunities ahead, then our children cannot be. If

our children are not ready, then they – and we – are

destined to miss the great potential promises of the

future. It will take all the BOG, PA, Teachers and

school Principal and other educational stakeholders

working together to meet the urgent challenge of educating students for the next 5

years.

We can build on the strengths we have in our school and ensure that all Lions’

students leave the educational system ready to compete with their counterparts

across the country for their place in the rapidly evolving national economy. Once

more they must graduate from high school ready for college, career, citizenship and

life. I would not forget to mention DISCIPLINE. Discipline is paramount in its 4

corners in our Lions High School Kisumu: Namely,

1. Discipline in Parents the backbone of the school. They must make sure that

the children are in school learning by paying school fee in time and by

monitoring.

2. Discipline in Management. BOM, PA, and Principal must all work in unity

and as a team in their day to day work.

3. Discipline in Teachers. Very vital. Set targets for syllabus coverage and mean

scores must be met.

4. Discipline in Students. Very key for their success in life. All students must

maintain high standards of discipline in the school.

Finally I would like to express my sincere thanks to the entire team who worked

tirelessly to come up with this beautiful STRATEGIC PLAN FOR CHANGE. Please

let us all adopt and support it in order to realize the change we want 2020.

OVERVIEW OF THE 2015-2019 STRATEGIC PLANNING APPROACH

This Strategic Planning document is a result of an elaborate process that involved an

initial 2-day workshop held at the Hillside Hotel in Kisumu County, between 1st and

2nd August 2014 which brought together 73 participants including the Board of

Management (BoG), Parents Teachers Association (PTA), teachers, non-teacher staff

and student representatives and a follow-up 1-day Task Force meeting on 15th

October 2014 to fine tune the draft document. The strategic planning process

endeavours:

to determine the future direction of Lions High School Kisumu in the next five

years;

to reflect on both internal and external factors that may influence the growth of

the school;

to promote the participation and create a sense of ownership among the school

stakeholders in the management and running of the school; and,

to equip us with skills and knowledge on participatory planning and decision

making

During the process, various departments were tasked with considering the different

aspects of the school within a planning aspect to reflect an enabling environment in

determining the core objectives and activities of the plan. Several emerging issues,

trends and dynamics in the social, political and economic aspects were considered in

conformity to the needs and requirements of the school within the devolved

governance dispensation. That includes the right to basic education as outlined in

the Kenya Constitution 2010, realignment to the expectations in the National

Governments’ Vision 2030 and commitments towards the attainment of the

Country’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

As a result of this process, we are very optimistic that the Strategic Plan 2015 – 2019

will enable us achieve the following:

reflect on our work and improve performance through visioning, planning

and goal setting;

to continuously map out and chart our way forward;

Page 8: Strategic Plan Lions High School Kisumu 2015-2019

Page | 7

Lions High School Kisumu: Strategic Plan014

to engage all stakeholders in achieving commitments to agreed upon goals

and targets;

to promote unity, cooperation and a common direction among stakeholders,

build consensus, encourage ownership and enhance teamwork;

to enable the school in responding to the changing education environment

and demands for efficient and effective service delivery;

to influence stakeholders, emerging circumstances and environment towards

a pro-active rather than reactive approach to issues;

to promote delegation of responsibility and information sharing mechanisms;

to link available resources to planned objectives and activities;

to improve problem solving through focused and productive planning in

addressing critical problems, choices and opportunities;

consolidating regular and periodic action monitoring to facilitate informed

adjustments based on emerging issues and trends to enhance transparency

and accountability.
