STARTER PACK FOR VOLUNTEERS 2016 EDITION

CONTENTS & INTRODUCTION
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour. ISAIAH 61:1-3 NIV

3 INTRODUCTION
Giving your time to Vision
Vision is a Christian charity working with children and teenagers in Rossendale. The charity is run entirely by volunteers: some people work for Vision on a full-time basis and are supported by friends, family or their church; others volunteer in their free time at evenings, weekends, or on their days off work.
Vision needs volunteers of all ages with all kinds of skills, expertise and experience. Volunteering for Vision isn't easy. Our teams work very hard to maintain a consistently high standard, and the type of work we do often brings unexpected challenges. But ultimately the rewards of volunteering - for the team and the young people we meet - make all the effort worthwhile.
Our aims
Before applying to become a volunteer, it's essential that you understand Vision's aims and feel passionate about seeing them fulfilled.
> we choose to come face to face with an ever-changing youth culture and dare to present the never-changing gospel message, using every opportunity and all available means of communication.
> we choose to challenge, inspire, and equip young Christians to thrive in their schools, colleges, and homes.
> we choose to build lasting, positive links with churches and other organisations who share our heart and aims.
How to apply
When you’ve read the relevant information in this pack, follow these steps to request and application form:
1 go to www.thevisionwebsite.com
2 click ‘About us’ from the top menu
3 scroll to the end of the page and look for the ‘Volunteering’ section - follow the links and go to Step 2: Request an application form
When we receive your completed form, we'll look carefully at your answers alongside the requirements of the role and other applications we've received for the same team. We'll keep you updated at each stage of the process and may ask to meet you in person to discuss your answers in more detail.

4 EXPECTATIONS
Basic expectations
The following expectations for volunteers will help you decide whether or not Vision is the right place for you to give your time. If your application is successful, you’ll be given a handbook with more detail about what Vision expects from volunteers, and what you can expect from the charity.
To be considered to volunteer with Vision you must…
> be a Christian with a sincere desire to love and follow Jesus
> be aged 18+
> take responsibility for your own financial support
> have a heart for children and young people
You’ll be an ideal candidate if you are…
> passionate about your faith
> enthusiastic and hard-working
> teachable and willing to take on new challenges
> happy to work closely with others as part of a team
> a member of a local church
By joining a team you agree to…
> make every effort to always contribute constructively
> be an ambassador of Vision and its work
> recognise your accountability to Vision’s leadership
> live and work in accordance with Vision’s values, guidelines and policies
All Vision volunteers must…
> apply for a DBS disclosure through Vision*
> attend Safeguarding training
* Due to the nature of Vision’s work, if your DBS disclosure gives any information that would prevent you from working with under 18s you will be unable to volunteer for the charity in any capacity.
