Standby

Standby processing is determined by local procedure; the established internal boarding priority table is managed by CRC. There are two types of standby passengers: Revenue and Non-Revenue. Many carriers allow non-revenue passengers to list for a flight as much as 25 days in advance. The listing process provides an estimated standby passenger count, which can assist with SSR items and meal counts. A basic format displays system assigned standby codes; enter 4WP to display the priority list. ENTRY: 4WP

Response: SEQ CODE TYPE PTC 8DAY NON SEQ CODE TYPE PTC 8DAY NON ¬ 1 X MISH 0 2 CNFT ¬ 3 T CONF 0 YES 4 H CONF 0 ¬ 5 F GOSH 0 6 S STBY 0 ¬ 7 V VOLU 0 8 AD00 AD00 4 ¬ 9 TG00 CONF 4 10 HS1B CONF 4 YES ¬ 11 HS2P CONF 4 YES 12 HS3B1 CONF 4 YES ¬ 13 HS3B2 CONF 4 YES 14 HS3B3 CONF 4 YES ¬ 15 HS3B4 CONF 4 YES 16 HS4B1 CONF 4 YES ¬ 17 HS4P1 CONF 4 YES 18 HS4P2 CONF 4 YES ¬ 19 HS4B3 CONF 4 YES 20 SA1B NRSA 5 YES YES ¬ 21 SA1P NRSA 5 YES YES 22 SA2P NRSA 5 YES YES ¬ 23 SA3P NRSA 5 YES YES 24 SA4P NRSA 5 YES YES ¬

Code Explanation SEQ The sequence or order of priority for clearance. CODE The indicator used to place a person on standby. TYPE Further definition of why the person is on the list. PTC Passenger Type Code as it relates to the list. 8DAY Yes in this column allows listing in advance of the day of flight.

The default is currently 25 days, not 8 days as indicated in the header.

NON Yes in this column indicates this is a non-revenue status passenger. Blank is a revenue passenger.

The most commonly used Standby indicators are: Indicator Explanation -X Mishandled -H Confirmed -F Full fare confirmed (No Rec/Go Show) -T Confirmed -V Volunteer -S Special fare confirmed

Passengers with No Reservations

Occasionally, a passenger comes to the airport without a reservation. The industry refers to this situation as a Go Show. If the passenger is holding a valid ticket with the correct flight number, date, and status of OK, this is a No Rec. In either situation, a standard check-in format attempts to sell a seat and verify in one entry. If a seat is not available on the flight, the passenger is placed on the Standby list; both use the same standby indicator. Example: Go Show Passenger Step Action

Clearing the Waitlist

Airlines often require passengers to check-in a minimum of 15 minutes prior to departure for domestic and 60 minutes prior to departure for international. If confirmed passengers have not verified by the cut off time, seat assignments are released and the seat map is cleared. This is a 2-step process; the first step releases the reserved seats (R on the seat map) and the second step releases the advanced check-in seats (* on the seat map). Once seats are released, clearing the standby list can begin. Clearing the list issues the standby passenger a boarding pass. Entry Explanation 4XALL Cancel all R seats on the seat map4X444-EARLY Cancel all * seats on the seat map 4XALL/F Cancel all R seats in F class 4X444-EARLY/F Cancel all * seats in F class

Six hours prior to departure, CRTs can be dedicated to the flight. More than one location can work the standby list and agents can clear specific standbys or groups of standbys in increments of 5 or ALL (20 maximum). CRTs clearing the list must first be dedicated to the flight, and then dedicated to the standby list. Step Action

1 Dedicate CRT to the flight. ENTRY: 4D114 Response: (optional CRC message) OK/YY114

Generic or specific seat assignment options can be used when issuing standby boarding passes. Entry Explanation 4A1//5 Clears name items 1-5; assigns default seating. 4A-ALL Clears first 20 name items; assigns default seating. 4A1$YW Clears first name item; requests coach, window seat. 4A2$15A Clears second name item; requests seat 15A. 4A3$YE Clears third name item; requests emergency exit. 4A4$YEW Clears first name; requests emergency exit window. 4A5//6$YAA Clears fifth and sixth name item, requests aisles across.

After a name(s) is cleared, the list is returned displaying the next passenger to be cleared. If a specific seat request cannot be satisfied, a seat map is displayed. The 4A entry assigns the seat, updates the seat map, PNR, SPIL, baggage match and issues a boarding pass.

If a verified passenger fails to respond to the standby call, or refuses the seat, the agent enters 4W*B. This places an indicator in the R column of the list marking the standby item for later recall. The by-passed passenger remains on the 4WL list.
