In today’s Gospel, Jesus challenges us by saying: “You must be perfected as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts and into our lives.

Pope Francis on Immigration

Why settle for a “Good” marriage when you can have a “Great” marriage? You can make the leap from just good to great on a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend! The weekend is 44 hours where married couples can get away from jobs, kids, chores, the internet and phones and focus attention on each other. If you’d like greater depths, growth and enrichment in our relationship, you’ll like the difference a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend can offer. The next weekend is scheduled in Cullman, March 24-26 at St. Bernard Abbey. You can more information or register at www.ALFL-wwme.org or by calling Bob & Joy Hernandez at 678-985-0125.

World Wide Marriage Encounter

While encouraging the development of a bet-ter world, we cannot remain silent about the scandal of poverty in its various forms. Vio-

lence, exploitation, discrimination, marginali-zation, restrictive approaches to fundamental

freedoms, whether of individuals or of groups: these are some of the chief

elements of poverty which need to be overcome. Often these are precisely the elements which mark migratory movements, thus linking migration

to poverty. (8/5/13, Migrants and Refugees)

DIVINE WISDOM The Lord’s message, through Moses, was to “take no revenge and cherish no grudge . . . love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). We might think, “Great in theory, but not always realistic!” Then Jesus in today’s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we’re tempted to think that those are nice ideals, but not very practical in the “real world.” Paul echoes Jesus when he tells the Corin-thians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dis-honest—without distinction. We must examine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accord-ingly. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Ladies Sodality Presents

PRAYER FOR THE SICK Almighty and Eternal God, You are the everlasting health of those who believe in You. Hear us for Your sick servants for whom we im-plore the aid of Your tender mercy, that being restored to bodily health, may they give thanks to You in Your Church. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

FAST & ABSTINENCE: Ash Wednesday is March 1st The general rule of the church is: “All persons who have completed their 14th year are bound by the law of abstinence; all adults are bound by the law of fast up to the beginning of their 60th year. Never-theless, pastors and parents are to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance.” (Canon 1253)

Abstinence means abstaining from meat. Fasting means one full meal a day, with two lighter meals in the course of a day to main-tain strength.

The Fridays of Lent in the United States are days of abstinence from meat.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence from meat.
