Created in the image of God, we share in the

responsibility to care for God’s creation.

Below are some ways that you can pray with your children using your prayer space.

Colouring Prayer:

First, gather colouring utensils and colouring

sheets. Second, decide what you’ll pray for with

each colour. For example, use purple while

praying aloud for animals, green for family

members, blue for the Earth and the environment.

Prayer Journal:

Invite your children to begin drawing or writing

their prayers to God. Even little ones can draw

their prayers. For those who are older, they may

want to write letters to God. Perhaps encourage

them to write to God about their hopes and

worries.

Prayer Walk:

Go for a walk together in search for the things

you’re thankful to God for. Sidewalks, trees, bird

songs, animals, smiles from other people, flowers in

bloom, passing cars that make travel possible.

Fill in the Blank Prayer:

Take turns going back and forth or from person to

person, saying, “God is great, God is good, thank

you God for ______________.”

Discussing what is inside our hearts and minds

with each other is a crucial way to build

relationships.

Breath Prayer:

First, choose a word or brief phrase to repeat in

one breath. For example, on the inhale, think or

say “When I am afraid.” Then, on the exhale,

think or say “I will trust you.” (Psalm 56:3)

Repeating breath prayers is a meditative practice

that can be done with children of almost any age.

Scripture Prayer:

First, choose a Bible verse and use it as a prayer to

begin and end each day. Try “Jesus said, ‘I am the

way and the truth and the life.’” (John 14:6) or “I

can do all things through Christ who strengthens

me” (Philippians 4:13) or “I am with you always, to

the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20)

Prayer through Movement:

There are several ways to pray with kids that teach how their

minds and bodies communicate with God.

(3 deep breaths)

God, you are above (reach toward the sky), below (touch your toes), inside

(hands to heart) and all around (big arm circles). I worship you (reach toward

the sky), and give my life to you (touch your toes).

And I love you (hands to heart) with all that I am (big arm circles). (3 deep

breaths)

Centring Prayer:

Praying silently in this way to empty the mind and become open to God’s

presence. For young children two to five minutes can be plenty to start with.

For older children, try up to ten minutes once they’re familiar to the practice.

First, invite them to close their eyes and imagine that they are standing in a

forest along the side of a stream. Second, explain that when a thought comes

into their minds, they can imagine the thought landing on a leaf, floating down

onto the surface of the stream and away until it’s out of view.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Kia ora koutou

We had a fantastic time at the disco last Friday night. Thanks again to our hard-working PTF.

This Sunday we are holding our first school Mass since returning to school following the COVID-

19 lockdown. We are excited to be returning to the church and look forward to seeing you all. The

children have been working hard at singing practice and are sounding fabulous.

We have school photos on Wednesday next week. Our apologies for the short timeframe to get

your orders in. We only received the envelopes this week.

We are back into the swing of things in the classroom and have appreciated the great weather as

we have enjoyed basketball, ripper and touch rugby skills this week. The children have also

started their cross-country training in preparation for another wonderful event this term.

Have a safe and happy weekend.

Principal’s Pen

A huge big welcome to Heath Hughson who

started in Room 8, with Mrs Lagan last week. We

hope you have an amazing time at school Heath

and create lots of memories.

Term 4 2018 the Year 8 students were studying Pest Control and were working with Taranaki Regional Council selling rat traps. The Taranaki Regional Council have offered subsidised box-tunnel rat traps that are safe around pets and children. They cost $10.00 each and include

the box-tunnel, the trap and

information on how to use the trap

and to record your catches. They

are available from the school office

in Room 6

We have been discovering ways to

measure objects without using a ruler.

We used classroom items like, dice,

counters, animal shapes and popsicle

sticks to measure things. We measured

our book bags, sticker charts, trays,

name tags and part of the court to

start our measurement unit.

SUPPORTING RURAL SCHOOLS

ANZCO donates 50 cents to nominated rural primary schools for every cull cow and bobby calf processed.

In the past eight years, this programme has seen more than $1 million donated to rural schools - $117,000

went to rural schools in 2019 alone.

To Sponsor a School programme is ANZCO’s way of thanking dairy farmers for choosing ANZCO and

showing their support for local rural schools and communities.

The greater the support we get, the higher our donations to schools. Talk to your ANZCO Livestock Rep to

find out how to take part and to nominate St Joseph’s School, Hawera.

KAN TABS for

KIDNEY KIDS

Lions Club have once again got behind this awesome initiative to help support kidney kids.

Please save and collect tabs from cans and return to the school office.

There is a bucket at reception to collect the tabs in.

Money raised is used to support and assist children with kidney disease including those children who have end stage kidney disease and require treatment. The funds raised from the project do NOT pay for

dialysis. This is paid through your health tax dollars

MILK / CREAM

them in the bin provided. These tops will

be sent away and recycled into plastic bags

and/or plastic pipes.

Fantastic start to the 2020 season last Saturday for all of our Satellite teams.

YEAR 1 & 2 WEDNESDAY SKILLS PROGRAMME:

• Starts Wednesday 5th August @ Junior Lunchtime

• Registrations will be sent out this week for any NEW registrations, these are due 3pm Friday 31st July.

• $10.00 per player

UNIFORMS

• St Joseph’s Netball Club were fortunate to receive a grant from the Pelorus Trust this year which allowed us to purchase new uniforms and replenish our team gear bags. With the uniform upgrade we were able to ensure that all our netball teams, both boys and girls, from junior teams to senior teams looked "uniform" in our uniform representing our club.

• Our teams looked pretty sharp on Saturday in full uniform and feedback from onlookers were quite positive.

• St Joseph’s Netball Club are very appreciative of the grant received from the Pelorus Trust.
