Horticultural Section Rules

Trophies for Section Doris Swadling Memorial Challenge Rosebowl

Points Prize for most points in all sections of Horticulture Section

Entry fee Adults - $1.00 for all classes.

Entry fee School Children – Free all classes

Prize money 1st Place $3.00, 2nd Place $2.00 unless otherwise stated.

Horticultural Section entries close at 4pm on Thursday 20th November 2014.

Entries will be received in the Edna Wills hall from 10am to 4pm Wednesday and Thursday prior to

the show. Entries at all other times to be directed to the Secretary‟s office.

Rules

1. All exhibits to be the bona fide property of the exhibitor two months prior to the

show.

2. Exhibits in all sections must delivered to the Edna Wills Hall, Thursday 20th November

2014 between 10am and 6.00 pm or on Friday morning prior to 8.00 am.

3. Entries may be collected after prize giving Saturday 22nd November 2014.

4. Judging commencing 9.30 am Friday 21st November 2014.

5. Where points are given, points to count as follows; 1st 3 points, 2nd 2 points, 3rd 1

point, Premier bloom 3 points, Special prize 1 point.

6. In the event of a tie for „Points Prize‟ most 1st prizes to count.

7. Committee reserves the right to substitute product prizes of similar value for cash

prizes.

8. All entries judged at discretion of the judge.

9. All prize money and entry fees inclusive of GST.

10. If 3 entries or less in a class only one prize will be paid, this may be first or second.

11. Prize Money will be paid by the Stewards Saturday from 12 noon – 4pm, Edna Wills

Hall

12. All Prize money will be forfeited if not collected by 30th November 2014.

13. Trophies and prizes will be awarded at 3pm on Saturday in the Edna Wills Hall.

14. The engraving is the responsibility of the person receiving the cup.

16. The definition of an amateur, one who does not make a living from a particular

work.

Rose Section Rules

1. Decorative Blooms – Should be between one quarter and half open with gracefully

arranged, well formed petals producing a bloom of more slender proportions than

Exhibition Blooms, judged in the order of form, freshness, balance and foliage.

2. Exhibition Blooms – Should be between half and three quarters open, of good size, with

ample petals symmetrically arranged within a circular outline around a well formed

centre, judged in the order of form, freshness, balance and foliage.

3. Stem of Roses – Should have well spaced, gracefully arranged flowers with side buds.

Judged in the order of form, freshness, balance and foliage. The type of flower is not

taken into consideration.

4. Display – All roses to be displayed in vases provided.

5. Exhibits are required to be named – name tags will be supplied.

6. Exhibitors should make sure that the stem has flowers open. Buds on stem not open

do not constitute flowers to be classified as flowers. The sepal must be down and one

petal unfurled.

7. Where a bloom is required – this is a single flower with no side buds if it has side

buds then it becomes a stem. Side buds in bloom classes should be carefully

removed leaving only the bloom.

Open to those who have not previously won more than 3 first awards at any show.

15. All articles/exhibits must be in their finished, mounted or framed state.

16. To ensure exhibition it is necessary that all exhibits have the name and full address of the

exhibitor and the class number attached to every exhibit.

17. No delivery of exhibits will be given without an order from the Chief Steward, and no

exhibit can be removed before prize giving on the second day of the show.

18. Exhibits must be collected by 5pm on Saturday 22nd November 2014.

19. The Committee will not under any circumstances be responsible for loss, damage or miss-

delivery of an exhibit.

20. Special prizes may be given in lieu of the Association‟s prizes.

21. Points prize to count only for individual entries, not grouped.

22. No limit to entries per person per class.

Wonder Cake Recipe

Mix together

1 cup flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 cup sugar

In a cup add

2 Tbs melted butter

½ tsp vanilla

2 eggs

fill the cup with milk

Mix into the dry ingredients and beat for 5 minutes

Pour into a greased cake tin and bake in a fairly hot oven.

SHOW THEME – GoH20!

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary

of the Hawera Water Tower Kidzone is again poised to be the centre of entertainment for children at the Hawera Auto Court Egmont A&P Show.

The big prize up for grabs again this year is $1000 cash prize to the school

that is judged to have the biggest participation in Kidzone on Friday.

The Swamp

An obstacle course full of exciting and fun water based activities in the swamp – you can enter the swamp just

past the Shearing Stage behind the grandstand. Can you make it through carrying your precious H20?

Davy Jones Locker

Hidden away at the far end of the grandstand is Davy Jones Locker here you can get your hair done like a

pirate or mermaid, your face painted and your photo taken. You can also enter the Hawera Water Tower

History Quiz to be in the draw to win a free Powerco Aquatic Centre Hydroslide pass.

Aqua Bubbles

Just like a Zorb but on water, this will be huge fun and frolicks for the whole family, find them in The Hits Kidzone

next to the Expo Hall. You will need to bring your socks - for children only.

The Water Hole

Visit the Water Hole under the grandstand for a host of water based activities. Free giveaways and fun with the

Kidzone team.

Placemakers Signboard Competition – Book your signboard now!

Kidzone staff will deliver a signboard to your school for the children to decorate based around the theme

GoH20! Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Hawera Water Tower, paint your futuristic water tower on your

The Big Dig

Dig for hidden tokens in our oversized sand pit, you could be taking home prizes and even cash!

Claas Pedal Tractor Races

Exercise and fun for children as they pedal down a purpose built track. The Claas Pedal Tractor races are fun

for everyone, located in the Kidzone outdoor area.

Explore the blow up bouncy Pirate ship – will you find treasure?

Fred & Eunice Rodie Charitable Trust Small Animal Tent

Visit the tent adjacent to Kidzone to get up close to a variety of animals, there is always something big and

hairy, small furry and cute to see in the Small Animal tent. The lamb fancy dress, calling and drinking

competitions will be held at 11.am on Saturday outside the tent. Pony rides available both days at a small cost

right next to the Fred & Eunice Rodie Charitable Trust Small Animal Tent.
