Stewardship

Bury the dead – (corporal work of mercy) Funerals give us the opportunity to grieve and show oth-ers support during difficult times. Through our prayers and actions during these times we show our respect for life, which is always a gift from God, and comfort to those who mourn. ♦ Send a card to someone who has recently lost a loved

one. Make your own prayer cards. ♦ Visit the cemetery and pray for those you have lost. ♦ Spend time planning your own funeral Mass, read

through the Order of Christian Funerals and find our hope in the Resurrection.

Praying for the living and the dead – (spiritual work of mercy) Prayer is one of the most powerful ways we can support others. Joining together in prayer for the living and the dead entrusts us all into God's care. ♦ Request a mass intention for a friend or family mem-

ber who is going through a tough time. ♦ Request a mass intention for a friend or family mem-

ber who has passed away. ♦ Keep your own book of prayer intentions, writing

down the names of those who you are keeping in your prayers.

♦ Ask a friend or family member if there is anything you can pray for them about.

♦ Through prayer, entrust your cares and concerns for those around you to God.

May God Bless You and Your Loved Ones

Question of the week! “So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She replied, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” Question for the Week: How will you reach out to those who feel condemned by society and let them know the loving mercy of the Lord?

St. Patrick’s Day—March 17

Legends about Patrick abound; but truth is best served by our seeing two solid qualities in him: He was humble and he was courageous. The determination to accept suffering and success with equal indifference guided the life of God’s instrument for winning most of Ireland for Christ. Details of his life are uncertain. Current research places his dates of birth and death a little later than earlier ac-counts. Patrick may have been born in Dunbarton, Scot-land, Cumberland, England, or in northern Wales. He called himself both a Roman and a Britton. At 16, he and a large number of his father’s slaves and vassals were cap-tured by Irish raiders and sold as slaves in Ireland. Forced to work as a shepherd, he suffered greatly from hunger and cold. Because of the island’s pagan background, Patrick was emphatic in encouraging widows to remain chaste and young women to consecrate their virginity to Christ. He ordained many priests, divided the country into dioceses, held Church councils, founded several monasteries and continually urged his people to greater holiness in Christ. In a relatively short time, the island had experienced deeply the Christian spirit, and was prepared to send out missionaries whose efforts were greatly responsible for Christianizing Europe. Patrick was a man of action, with little inclination toward learning. He had a rocklike belief in his vocation, in the cause he had espoused. What distin-guishes Patrick is the durability of his efforts. When one considers the state of Ireland when he began his mission work, the vast extent of his labors (all of Ireland) and how the seeds he planted continued to grow and flourish, one can only admire the kind of man Patrick must have been. The holiness of a person is known only by the fruits of his or her work. Copyright 2015 American Catholic.org

St. Vincent de Paul Church Filipino Ministry The St. Vincent de Paul Church Filipino Ministry was established under the spiritual guidance of Rev. Peter Puntal, Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Our mission is to encourage the members to participate and promote the religious activities of St. Vincent de Paul Church and the Diocese of Orlando’s religious ac-tivities along with other American and ethnic groups. Activities include monthly First Friday masses (English mass with Filipino Choir singing Filipino songs), fol-lowed with a pot luck fellowship, and Diocesan spon-sored religious activities. We also encourage members to join and help out in the various ministries of our par-ish. The First Friday Mass at 6 pm is open for everyone to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

The Sacristan Ministry is an important ministry of the church. The Sacristan is involved in every church Litur-gy, including Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, and any other Liturgical celebrations. The Sacristan is responsible for preparing the Sacred Vessels (cruets, chalice, cibori-um, paten, altar linens and unconsecrated elements) prior to the celebration of the Mass and purifying the Sacred Vessels upon completion of the Mass. In addition, the Sacristan prepares the Altar and credence tables with all the necessary items for the Eucharistic celebration. An apprenticeship with an experienced sacristan is provided to ensure the Sacristan in training has a basic knowledge of liturgy and the vessels used.

If you are available to train to be a Sacristan for Daily Mass please contact

Carol Jakubiak 430-0923.

Donations & Purchases”

The Lord has done great things for us; We are filled with joy.

Our Mother of Mercy Outreach Services Only two more weeks until Easter! Are you having a good Lent? Is prayer incorporated in your daily life? “Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at His disposition, and listening to His voice in the depths of our hearts.” quoting Mother Teresa. You can make the Lenten season powerful through prayer and using your time and talent for God. Our parish has many opportunities for you to make Lent meaningful for you.

One in five children in our country live in a family that struggles to get enough to eat, especially on weekends and school vacations. Many working parents are employed on minimum wages and struggling to have their children get food they need to grow and learn. Some adults in the area are facing layoffs or reduced hours when the busy season ends in the area. Wait-staff, clerks, and home repair work-ers are some of the adults that usually have reduced hours in the summer.

Our parish patron, St. Vincent De Paul, encouraged the wealthy of France to help the poor. We follow his example by opening the pantry four times a month. There are over five thousand people attending Mass on the week-end. Please be one of 10% to bring non-perishable food to church. Many parishioners also collect food in their neighborhoods for our pantry. We are grateful for the fol-lowing groups for their donations: Aberdeen Social Group; Buttonwood 161 Village; Democratic Club of the Vil-lages; Greenville Way at Liberty Park; Irish Club; La-dies at Pinellas; Mount Pleasant Villas; Newport Villas; Parady Financial Group; Rio Grande Villas; Villages Softball League; the Wildwood Kiwanis Club.

Our clients and volunteers thank you for your support. We realize that many worthwhile charities request donations, and your donations of food, cash and checks (made out to St. Vincent de Paul Mother of Mercy Food Pantry) are appreciated. St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is an equal opportunity provider. Together, we are making a dif-ference in the area. Join us.

Food Pantry Requests items include the following: canned meats, pasta, side dishes, canned pasta w/meats, spaghetti sauce, pork & beans, pinto beans, canned fruit, canned tuna, canned vegetables, potatoes (canned or boxed), cereal, soup, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, mac & cheese, corn muffin mix, cake mix, pancake mix, crack-ers, cookies, condiments, white rice, coffee and tea. Laundry detergent, soap, hygiene and paper products are also appreciated. Please remember that out-of-date and opened food can not be distributed.
