St. Theresa Seniors/Retirees Valentines Party St. Theresa’s Catholic Church established a ministry back in the 1990’s to help adults in the parish feel more connected to the faith community through activities filled with food, fun and fellowship. Thus, the seniors/retirees monthly lunch was born. It is our mission to grow the group this year and we need your help! You need not be a senior or retired, just an adult member of the church looking for new friends! Our next lunch will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 11:30 am in the Hall. We will have a Valentines theme and will provide cake and coffee. You bring a bagged lunch and drink. Instead of Bingo, this month we will play a variety of board games. There are several to choose from, or feel free to bring your own! You are welcome to invite a friend or neighbor to join us!

We also offer 4 Support Groups (2 in Summerville, Moncks Corner, and Harleyville), Lunch & Learn Educational workshops, Memory Screenings, Resource Referrals, Early Memory Loss Programs, Caregiver Workshops, and 1st Responder/Law Enforcement Training. The St Theresa the Little Flower Domestic Church ministry are hosting the BELOVED social education events on living married. The environment for our “Living Marriage” series is a mutual learning format that combines an educational video presentation with group discussion on the topic while socializing with snacks and beverages. Come

learn and share your experience with others at our BELOVED evening events. SESSION 3 – CONFLICT AND COMMUNICATIONS SESSION OVERVIEW Conflict is inevitable in any relationship, but it doesn’t have to be damaging or hurtful. In fact, if approached in the right way and handled well, conflict can actually be a healthy thing in a relationship. However, sometimes in a conflict, our perspective gets shifted from our spouse to the conflict itself. Instead of working together to address the situation, we work in opposition. The key to resolving conflict in a healthy manner is to address not only the conflict itself, but also the underlying factors that are causing it. We hope that you join us – Sign up on the Church website or RSVP to Tom and Eko DeMars at [email protected] Date and time: February 7, 2020 at 7:00pm until 8:30pm Location: St Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church in the Meeting Center SESSION 4 – BUILDING A THRIVING MARRIAGE OVERVIEW Marriage is a high calling, but we must not allow the ideal to become the enemy of the good. Instead, we must do the little things we can to keep moving closer to the ideal. We must be aware of ourselves, do the work that is necessary, find ways to be together, pursue virtue, and be patient with each other. In this session we talked about the causes of conflict as well as strategies for dealing with them. We hope that you join us – Sign up on the Church website or RSVP to Tom and Eko DeMars at [email protected] Date and time: February 14, 2020 at 7:00pm until 8:30pm Location: St Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church in the Meeting Center

When is the Best Time to Plan Your Funeral? Any time is a good time to plan your funeral …except at the time of the funeral. Why? Because there are clear advantages to planning ahead. Can you imagine planning a wedding in just a few days? Or any celebration for that matter? Why leave the ultimate celebration of your life to the last minute? We believe that planning a funeral in advance is a wise thing to do. You may want to ease the burden on your family. If your wishes are unknown when you die, they will be faced with making difficult decisions at a trying time. Will your family know if you have specific preferences for the disposition of your remains and the nature of your funeral services? You may have a preference for the music and readings at your funeral. Whatever your wishes, you can clearly express them in your funeral plan. Please stop by the office and pick up a funeral planning packet from Kerry Hall or contact her at [email protected].

The 5th Annual Eucharistic conference will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 and will feature Fr. Gillespie’s presentation TRUE DEVOTION TO MARY, PART TWO AND THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS. BUILDING & GROWING TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE IN FAITH

We have collected one million dollars towards the construction of our new Family Life Center! We received $45,200 from families who did not pledge. There is $250,000 in pledge balances. We can begin construction once we reach the two million

dollar mark. Beginning in January, St. Theresa parish will be partnering with the Diocese of Charleston to celebrate the 200th anniversary of our founding. The Bicentennial Campaign is an important initiative to raise funds for our parish as well as the Diocese. We have begun the process of forming a Campaign Executive Committee. In the coming days and weeks, you will be hearing more specifics about the campaign and we request your prayer support as we continue to build God’s kingdom here in South Carolina. If you would like to help on the Executive Committee, please let us know.
