EDITORIAL

It has been two years since the publication of the last St. Stanislaus Magazine. In many ways the Editor's job has been easier this time around. The main reason for this is that the present students and teachers are now familiar with the magazine and have a fair idea of the caliber and kind of article that is needed for publication.

Then there is Mr. Desmond Bermingham, a teacher from England who is attached to the English department for a year as a result of a teacher exchange programme. Having some previous experience in publishing school magazines, he has made all the difference. How he skillfully managed to get both teachers and students to submit their articles before the deadline, remains a mystery to us all.

In some ways it has also been a more difficult assignment as, following the 50th anniversary issue, material had a tendency to seem anticlimatic. However the "SAINTS" magazine will never lose the significance of its contribution to a St. Stanislaus Education. In these days when important traditions are so easily and irresponsibly cast aside for economic or political reasons, a special effort should be made to preserve the tradition of the St.Stanislaus Magazine.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As the President of the St. Stanislaus College Association as well as a past

student of the school, I often wonder about the thousands of students that have benefited from a "SAINTS" education. Many of them, in whatever country they live, have no doubt become quite successful in their lives. Do they ever attribute any of this success to their St. Stanislaus Education? Do they ever wonder how their old school is handling the aging process?

In the past two years these questions have been answered in some quarters. We

are extremely pleased with the formation St. Stanislaus Association chapters in Toronto and more recently Barbados. These new Associations will go a long way in helping to alleviate the seemingly unmanageable burden that the local Association has had to bear in recent years.

In keeping with this trend, if the old Saints Students now resident in New York and London can organise themselves into vibrant past student Associations, then the fund-raising Committee of the local Association would be able to go into semi-retirement. All its efforts could then be concentrated in administering various projects, funded by the overseas Associations. These projects would be specifically designed to restore to its former glory the quality of the Education received at St. Stanislaus College.
