Update on Resuming Public Masses

I’m sure many of you are hearing from outside sources about the potential for reopening churches for public Masses. As of today, there has been no formal approval given for us to resume public Masses.

Remember, we are still in a pandemic and the obligation has been lifted for you to attend a Sunday Mass of Obligation. Until there is a vaccine and treatment, there is still a significant risk in attending a public Mass. I would like to limit the risk as much as possible.

I can tell you that here at St. Rita we have begun organizing volunteers into at least eight different subcommittees to begin planning for when the time is right, that we may safely reopen. There are many factors to consider before we can even think of reopening. The biggest challenges are configuring our worship space for safe, social distancing, controlling the number of people allowed into church, then individually ushering them to assigned seats, not to mention disinfecting and cleaning the entire church before and after each gathering.

We have a team that is working on effective communication with every household of the parish to alert them to when public Masses will begin and what things to expect when they return.

Thank you to the more than 400 households who have responded to our survey “How do you feel about returning to Mass in person?” Your feedback has been instrumental in how we are approaching all of these issues.

When we do resume public Masses, I will rely on your understanding and patience, because things are not going back to normal. We will be limited in the number of people allowed to attend a Mass. We will open slowly so that we are sure to do everything as well as possible. You should prepare yourself for the reality that parishioners may only have the opportunity to attend Mass every other week or even once a month so that everyone has the opportunity to attend.

We are still the welcoming and faith-filled community of St. Rita that we have always been and we even continue to grow and improve in the midst of this pandemic. When we are able, we will move forward purposefully and orderly. Please continue to pray for the scientists and medical professionals who are working on a vaccine and treatments. These developments will speed the process.

Let’s continue to pray for one another and the world. Peace,

Fr. Tim

ST. RITA SCHOOL

Where Faith and Knowledge Meet!

SRS STRONG!

+ There is only one more week of online learning taking place for our God Drops. This is sure to be one of the most legendary school years for students as well as their teachers. This quarter’s report cards will include new details. In order to give parents information regarding their child’s learning, letter grades will be given. Pre-K through 2nd grade will be graded with: “M”-Meets Expectations, “W”-Working towards grade level, “N”-Needs more instruction, or an “I”-Inconclusive. The Inconclusive grade is for students that are working towards grade level but were not able to be assessed during distance learning. This grade ensures the student will be given an opportunity to further learn and understand that subject matter in the Fall. Third through Fifth grade students will be given letter grades of “P” for Pass or “N” for Needs more instruction, or “I” for Inconclusive, not a GPA as is custom for these grades.

+ St. Rita School continues to accept applications for the 2020-2021 school year. If you are interested in joining our St. Rita’s School community, please go to the school’s website www.stritawebster.org/school and download the registration packet. If you have any questions or concerns regarding registration for next year, our School Principal, Mary Ellen Wagner, would be happy to assist you. She can be reached via e-mail at [email protected]. We look forward to having you join the St. Rita School Family!

Thank you and Best Wishes Mrs. Lemik!

Mrs. Carla Lemik will be retiring from her teaching ministry at the end of this school year. Mrs. Lemik has taught in the Diocese of Rochester Catholic Schools system for 35 years, with her last 30 years at St. Rita School.

She has proven to be an exceptional First Grade teacher. Through the years, her students have been able to accomplish so much in just one year, especially learning to read as well as grasping foundational Math concepts.

Most importantly, Mrs. Lemik’s strong passion for teaching Religion and sharing the Catholic faith with our youngest learners has been truly valued at St. Rita School. Her care for all our children and her dedicated service to the SRS community have also been outstanding.

For all this, we are extremely grateful. We wish Mrs. Lemik a long, wonderful, and relaxing retirement!

If you would like to send Mrs. Lemik a memory or a note of gratitude please mail it to St. Rita School and we will be sure she receives it.

Our Tabernacle Light will burn from June 8 to June 14

Pray the Spiritual Communion Prayer during an online Mass when you would normally receive Holy Communion.

Spiritual Communion Prayer

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Trinity Sunday

The Trinity - always a hard one for me to explain, so here we go! I recall, as a child, hearing that the Trinity is a mystery; something beyond our understanding. It was something we should rest with and be OK with and there are moments when that mystery feeds me. For instance, in times like these, knowing that something beyond our understanding is with us and is more powerful than any of the darkness in our world, is very comforting.

Reflecting further, consider today’s readings; they are together for a reason. They form the basis of our faith experience. Moses bowed down in worship on Mount Sinai, “having come down in a cloud, the Lord stood with Moses (yes, He stood with Moses, and He stands with us . . . imagine that!) The Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, rich and kindness and Fidelity.” Then Paul reminds us to encourage one another, agree with one another . . . live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you (again, He is with you!). John’s Gospel is the culmination. “God so loved the world that he gave his only son (to be with us!), so that everyone who believes in him, might not perish but might have eternal life.”

So let’s consider another message, that the Trinity reminds us that God has been revealing himself throughout history in various ways. He continues to reveal himself through the workings of the Holy Spirit; revealing himself through us by being God’s presence for each other; inviting us to be joyous participants in THIS world, a world that is inherently good because it is of God’s creation.

Perhaps then, we can rest with both messages. Something beyond our understanding, something powerful and good, has been and continues to be with us as we journey onward, joyously with one another and our Lord! Peace and much love, Deacon Jim

Planning For 2020-2021

For the health of all our Faith Formation families and volunteers, next year’s Faith Formation program will need to limit or avoid large in-person gatherings.

Anne Thomas, our Faith Formation Coordinator is working on plans to provide the best possible program to enable families to explore our faith, to live our faith in our daily lives, and to grow as a community no matter how much physical distance we must keep. But she can’t do that without hearing what works best for your family!

To help her involve your voice in the planning process, please visit:

http://www.saintritawebster.org/faithformationk7/

Please take this short survey and tell us how you would feel comfortable making your ideas heard, given the demands on your time and energy. Help us find out the best way to make everyone’s voices heard by filling out this survey.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL UPDATE

Currently, our plan is to provide resources and supplies for you to hold CAMP JESUS from your own home this summer.

Families will receive a kit (available for pick up from St. Rita or dropped off to your front porch) with everything you need (minus snacks). The kit will include craft/science project supplies, music, and plenty of instructions for Bible story activities, games, prayers, and more. Kits will be available by early July.

You can provide your feedback for what you would like to see or if you need further information by contacting [email protected].

Reserve your kit on our website at: www.saintritawebster.org/vacationbibleschool/

We are requesting a donation of $25 per kit (kit will be sized to meet your family’s needs).

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

In the hope that you will enter more fully into the Mass!

“For God So Loved The World, He Sent His Only Son . . .”

T he Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity always falls on the Sunday after Pentecost.

It celebrates the most central mystery of our faith — the mystery of “God in

himself” (CCC 234). While this is a mystery that is beyond our understanding,

God still reveals himself in ways that we can understand. One of the most prominent

ways God reveals himself is through Scripture, both the Old Testament (Hebrew

Scriptures) and the New Testament (Christian Scriptures). We see in all three readings

today evidence of the revelation of the Holy Trinity.

In our first reading (Exodus 34:4-6, 8-9), we hear the story of Moses going back up Mount Saini with new tablets

after he destroyed the first tablets of the ten commandments. Reading this passage in light of what we know of the

New Testament, we see evidence of the Trinity revealed—God the Father hidden in the cloud (always a

representation of the Holy Spirit) and the Lord “stood with Moses” as prefiguring Jesus, the Son of God. The name

LORD capitalized In the Old Testament was always a representation of the unspoken “YWYH” or Yahweh.

Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai as the LORD had commanded him, taking along the two stone

tablets. Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with Moses there and proclaimed his name, "LORD." Thus

the LORD passed before him and cried out, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger

and rich in kindness and fidelity." Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship. Then he said, "If I find

favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our

wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own."

In our Epistle reading (2 Corinthians 13:11-13), we hear the conclusion of St. Paul’s second letter to the Church in

Corinth. In this letter, Paul was correcting some of the divisions and false teachings and attitudes of the early

Christians. In his concluding prayer, we hear one of the clearest representations of the Holy Trinity in all of the New

Testament.

Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and

the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the holy ones greet you.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.

In our Gospel reading (John 3:16-18), we hear one of the most famous passages of the New Testament—John 3:16.

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might

have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be

saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already

been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

E very time we dip our fingers in holy water and bless ourselves, we not only celebrate the sign of the cross, we

also celebrate the mystery of the Trinity—”In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit”. At the

beginning of every Mass, we always hear the greeting of the priest taken from today’s Epistle reading, “May

the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.”

It may we good to take some time this week to reflect on this mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. What does it mean in

my life—what impact does awareness of the Trinity have on my life and those I love. Is this a God who created me

and loves me beyond all measure? Is this a God I can turn to in my brokenness and loneliness? Is this a God who

forgives me, no matter what? How should I act going forward? Read Paul’s words again in today’s Epistle.

Read, reflect and pray on the this Sunday’s readings at http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/060720.cfm
