LA CUARESMA (Ayuno, abstinencia y limosna) : Práctica Cristiana
La Cuaresma es el tiempo litúrgico de conversión de 40 días (comienza el miércoles de Ceniza y termina antes de la Misa de la Cena del Señor del Jueves Santo), que marca la Iglesia para prepararnos a la gran fiesta de la Pascua. Es tiempo de reflexión, de penitencia, para arre-pentirnos de nuestros pecados y de cambiar algo de nosotros mismos para ser mejores y poder vivir más cerca de Cristo. No debemos pasar por alto que toda la tradición occidental inicia la Cuaresma con la lectura del evangelio de las tentaciones de Jesús en el desierto: el período cuar-esmal constituye, pues, una experiencia de desierto, que al igual que en el caso del Señor, se pro-longa durante cuarenta días.
El ayuno, la abstinencia de carne y la limosna:
En la Biblia el ayuno puede ser señal de penitencia, expiación de los pecados, oración intensa o voluntad firme de conseguir algo. Otras veces, subraya la preparación intensa para un aconteci-miento importante.
El ayuno es símbolo y expresión de una renuncia a todo aquello que nos impide realizar en no-sotros el proyecto de Dios. Junto con el desierto y la oración, el ayuno parece ser una de las me-diaciones privilegiadas de todo tiempo penitencial, de revisión de vida y de búsqueda sincera de Dios. Sin embargo, los profetas Joel e Isaías nos indican el verdadero sentido de esta antigua práctica penitencial:
“Vuelvan a mí de todo corazón, con ayuno, llantos y lamentos. Desgarren su corazón y no sus vestiduras, y vuelvan al Señor, su Dios”. (Joel 2, 12-18)
“Este es el ayuno que yo amo, oráculo del Señor: soltar las cadenas injustas, desatar los lazos del yugo, dejar en libertad a los oprimidos y romper todos los yugos; compartir tu pan con el ham-briento y albergar a los pobres sin techo; cubrir al que veas desnudo…” (Isaías 58, 6-9)
El ayuno debe ser un gesto de solidaridad efectiva con los que pasan hambre (es decir, ayunan forzosamente) trabajando por la eliminación de toda la injusticia en la vida personal y social, y por la liberación de toda opresión, explotación y corrupción. Tal vez se trate de hablar menos, de hacer menos gestos superfluos, de perder menos tiempo frente al televisor para entregarlo a al-guien que necesite nuestra asistencia. Por eso el ayuno tiene que ir unido a la limosna, al gesto caritativo, que es también una acción preferencial de la Cuaresma.

Queridos amigos: Jesús siempre se esforzaba por despertar de muchas maneras en las personas la conversión a Dios. Con esta parábola de la Higuera estéril; donde el viñador a puesto todo su esfuerzo y esperanza. Pero aun así no da fruto. Esta contada por Jesús para provocar en nosotros una reacción. Para que una higuera sin higos? Para que una vida estéril y sin creatividad? Para que una religión que no cambia corazones? El riesgo mas grande para un Cristiano, es vivir una vida estéril. Pero lo mas importante de la parábola es el optimismo del viñador, que no corta la higuera, tiene fe en que un día dará frutos. Debemos imitar la aptitud del viñador, pues no habrá futuro para el ser humano, si termina perdiendo la fe en el amor. Señor deja la higuera este año, no la cortes yo la cuidare. Dear friends, Jesus always strived to awaken in many ways in people the conversion to God. Jesus tells us this parable of the barren fig tree where the gardener has put all his effort and hope, but it still doesn't give fruit. This, to provoke us to react…’why a fig tree without figs?’, ‘why a sterile life without creativity?’, why a Religion that does not change ones hearts?’ The greatest risk for a Christian is to live a sterile life. But the most important point of the parable is the optimism of the gardener, who does not cut down the fig tree but has faith that one day it will bear fruit. We must imitate the attitude of the gardener, for there will be no future for a human being, if he ends up losing faith in Love. Lord leave the fig tree this year, do not the cut it down, I will take care of it. Your brother in Christ, Fr. Carlos Joel Borgos.
