Professional Learning

Mr Jacob Parslow attended a Fundamental

Movements Skills workshop in Orange yesterday.

This is part of the Live Life Well at Schools

(LLW@S) program that we have here at St Phil’s

that also incorporates or Crunch and Sip program

and parts of our Health lessons in class. The day

was facilitated and funded by NSW Dept of Sport

further enhanced yesterday by the attendance of

the following staff at a forum held at Merrick Hall

and facilitated by Hawker Brownlow: Mrs Anne

Murdoch, Mrs Sallie Delaney, Mrs Kelly Farr

Miss Kate Holden, Mr Jacob Parslow and Mr

Shane Hanley. All staff at St Philomena’s have

now been in-serviced in PLC to this level. The

staff will continue to work as a whole team and

also in stage groups to ensure that all students in

our school learn at a high level. There will be

further in-service days in this month and in May

to continue our professional development

‘Taste of High School’

All Year 6 boys and girls will attend either

Stannies or MacKillop this Friday, 11th

holding an information session here in the school

library on Tuesday 22nd

March and all families

intending to educate their son/s at Stannies are

very welcome to attend.

provides sunscreen and this is available at the

Our annual Scholastic

Book fair, held yesterday

morning was very

successful. I thank Mrs

Katie White & Mrs Kelli

Hotham for their help

during the morning and the parents, grandparents and

carers who all helped in making the day a huge

success.

Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has

real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of

information and imagination and helps children

discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help

children develop stronger reading skills and a love for

reading:

Set the example. Let children see you read.

Have a collection of books in the

home.

Update this collection routinely

to keep pace with changing tastes

and reading skills.

Allow children to choose their

own books to read.

Swimming Carnival

On 2nd

March 14 St Phil’s students participated in

the Diocesan Swimming Carnival in Dubbo. Our

children performed brilliantly with many gaining

personal bests in their events. Congratulations to

the following children who competed; Cooper

Stephen, Andie Miller, Laura Martin-Clark, Noah

Maskill-Dowton, Isabel Schumacher, Lyla

Ditchfield, Jack O’Hara, Matilda Fitzgerald,

Angus MacFarlane, Paddy O’Hara, Thomas Press,

Baxter Fitzgerald, Lara Farraway and Jackson

Windsor.

Congratulation to Paddy O’Hara who won the 11

years boys Age Champion on the day. A fantastic

achievement!

The following students will now compete in the

Polding Swimming Championships to be held in

Sydney; Cooper Stephen, Jack O’Hara and Paddy

O’Hara. This is a wonderful achievement and we

wish these boys an enjoyable and successful

swimming meet. Well done everyone!

Anne Murdoch.
