What good news! Even great news! Or is it… Of course, it is good news. It is good news for all of us who are believers yet fall short of the glory of God – it is the promise that we, too, will be resurrected. However, I don’t think it is by chance that throughout the Easter season we will be reading from the book of Acts. It is the resurrected Jesus that calls his disciples to action! If only he hadn’t been resurrected – they could just sit and watch the world go by – reveling in their experiences of following the Messiah. It is not by chance that immediately after we hear the news of Jesus’ resurrection, we hear Jesus sending the disciples out to change the world – from a world of non-believers into a world filled with disciples who have been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. The Book of Acts is a record of the actions of the disciples. We hear many accounts of the ways that Jesus’ resurrection changed their lives forever. We are reminded that we are sent out to change the world – to “be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8) What does it mean to be “witnesses?” That is the challenge. For the disciples of Jesus day it meant venturing out into the unknown. A world dominated by Roman rule where “making disciples” of Jesus would likely get you thrown in jail or worse. The disciples lives had been changed – they couldn’t go back to fishing, tax collecting, carpentry, or to their previous profession. The path for their lives had changed. They had been following Jesus, listening to all he had to say, learning each day more about God’s will for all of creation; they had seen miracles and watched as Jesus challenged the status quo of religious tradition. Now it was their turn. What does God say to us today? Right. “Be my witnesses to the ends of the earth.” What does that look like for 21st century Christians? We celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, true. Yet, we know that same life, death, and especially resurrection, call us to challenge the religious status quo in our day so that the really Good News can spread to “the ends of the earth.” How is God planning to make us new? Just some food for thought…

I am so thankful St. Paul’s has many “go-to” people, people who step up and volunteer to the call. The Paulding Ministerial Association hosted Lenten luncheons again in 2016. St. Paul’s was included in the rotation of churches providing a meditation and light lunch for the community. Thanks to the following folks who served with their time, talent or donations: Gert Bidlack Margaret Phlipot Tim & Renee Boss Barb Rhoad Cindy Brewer Sue Rhodes Carol Flint Lynda Ringler Sandra Harper Rita Schmidt Karen Jacobs Margaret Smith Sue Monnier Jane Stouffer Pastor Karen Dan & Ethel Wilder

Just a note to Thank You for all Mom’s cards and your prayers, so she can walk again after breaking her hip Oct. 6, lots of pain but with God’s help and hard work from Mom she was able to return home Nov. 21st, she walks with her walker but for 96 we think she’s doing great! We had all your cards on her bulletin board, we can’t Thank You enough, and you didn’t forget her! Her Secret Sister is so good with cards. This is way late, Thank You, but the Thank You is BIG!

April 24 6:00 p.m.

We will gather at St. Paul for a good movie and good fellowship. Please plan to join us for God's Not Dead. In God's Not Dead, college freshman and devout Christian Josh Wheaton

(Shane Harper) finds his faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class by the dogmatic and argumentative Professor Radisson (Kevin Sorbo). Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that first day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words "God Is Dead" on pieces of paper as instructed, Josh finds himself at a crossroads, having to choose between his faith and his future. God's Not Dead weaves together multiple stories of faith, doubt and disbelief, culminating in a dramatic call to action. The film is meant to educate, entertain, and inspire moviegoers to explore what they really believe about God, igniting important conversations and life-changing decisions.
