Seeking to Know, Grow In, and Show the Ways of Jesus

Letter from the Pastor

I promise, this may be the last time I write about my move. I suppose I just need to process the change,

and writing about it helps.

It struck me that the last newsletter article I wrote was from our old home. I was sitting in my rocker,

looking at the old walls and thinking about what the new would bring. Now, I am sitting out on our new deck,

overlooking the swimming pool that we didn’t really want, but which came with the house we wanted—and I’m

thinking, “What in the world just happened? Here we are with a bigger house, swimming pool, and fancier

neighborhood. What does all this mean?”

So here is what I am learning—bigger doesn’t always mean better. Sometimes it just means bigger. What

it has tended to mean for us is bigger problems (like a light fixture which keeps flickering on and off), more

money, more rules and restrictions, (i.e.) a rather strict neighborhood covenant. Why didn’t we realize that when

we were considering the house? These things are the down side of moving. There is an upside, but I’ll get to that

later.

All these issues put together have made me question our wisdom. They have also made me think that it

might be possible that our new home may not be our last home. I don’t like thinking or talking like that, but it is

what has been on my mind. I’ve begun to realize that there may come a time when we will have to change again—

when bigger and more will no longer fit us. When that time comes we will have to look for something a little

less cumbersome, a little less extravagant, a little less complicated.

I guess the real learning is that I am not through with transitions. Maybe we never are. Maybe life is a

series of changes and adjustments, exits and entries—until at last we find our permanent location—with God.

Thankfully, Carl and I are not yet ready to make that permanent relocation. So, here is what we have

decided for the meantime. Despite its drawbacks, we are going to make the best of our new location. The

neighborhood, after all, isn’t bad, but nice. We plan to enjoy our new home—even the pool. Actually, it is

beautiful to sit out on a deck overlooking the water. We are looking forward to family gatherings, and family

seems to be looking forward to being at our new digs. It is the promise of family reunions at a home that can

accommodate everyone that keeps us focused on the positive and convinces us that we made a good decision for

our current phase in life.

All of this brings me to the final thing I learned—I need to trust that God knows what is best—not just for

me, but for all. I need to be a lot less traumatized by change, and a little more thankful for the new opportunities

it brings. I’m going to enjoy the adventure of moving into a new home, and leave all my anxieties and worries at

the front door—at least that’s what I’m going to try.

Thanks for listening—Pastor Donna

THE HEIFER PROJECT

We’re very happy to report that we have raised $500 for this project! Outstanding!! We

will be able to provide less fortunate families with ONE pregnant goat, ONE pig, PLUS

additional animals. Some of our other choices are: a flock of chickens, a colony of honeybees, a llama, or a water buffalo. We will let everyone know exactly what we

purchase in a future newsletter. A VERY SPECIAL THANKS to all who participated. Job well done!!

DISASTER PLANNING

in the event of a community disaster.

This program will be presented

immediately following the service of worship.

Mark your calendars now. Please plan to attend.

Nepal Earthquake – How to Donate By now I’m sure you are all aware of the devastating earthquake in Nepal. I wanted to send you a quick update on the UCC response as you may receive calls or e-mail inquiries from our congregations and members. UCC Disaster Ministries has a broad network of trusted and reliable partners that we work with throughout the year with capacity and local presence in hundreds of countries. Through these partnerships we are able to effectively and efficiently respond to both immediate and long-term needs following disasters. Since the quake our partnership through the act Alliance has been responding and working hard to help stabilize the situation through provisions of food, water, medicine and temporary shelter. UCC Disaster Ministries is requesting financial contributions to the International Emergency Relief fund to support these essential on-the-ground efforts. Donors can designate their gift by noting it is for Nepal Earthquake relief. To give online, Visit https://unitedchurchofchrist.nationbuilder.com/international_emergency_relief_fund Thank you for your continued prayers for the survivors, rescue teams and relief workers. If individuals are seeking more information, I can be reached at [email protected] or 410-259-6194. Zach Wolgemuth Executive, UCC Disaster Ministries Faith-based Disaster Preparedness Workshops

Congrats!

What makes a dad

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it…Dad.
