St Patrick's Day!St Patricks's Day is celebrated every year on 17 March. Many countries around the world celebrate this day, including Ireland, Great Britain, Australia and many more!

In Ireland, St Patrick's Day is a public holiday (Feiertag). There are parades and festivals in many Irish cities, as well as other cities around the world. People usually meet with their friends and wear green clothes, because green is on the Irish flag and it is also the colour of shamrocks (Kleeblätter). You often see people wearing shamrocks, and leprechaun(Kobold) hats, too. But St Patrick's Day isn't just about wearing green clothes and watching parades – it is also about celebrating the culture and heritage (Erbe) of the Irish.

The day has been celebrated since the early 17th century. It commemorates (gedenken) Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and 17 March is his traditional death date, which is why St Patrick's Day is celebrated on this day. Nowadays, St Patrick's Day has become very popular all around the world. In fact, it is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival!
